Ay Chino Moreno! Love his collaborations with Mike Shinoda (aka "Razors.Out" and "Lift Off.")

Brian Wilson was just better than Phil Spector.

    End of discussion.

Today marks the 3rd anniversary of Scott Hutchison's body being found after he disappeared from his Edinburgh hotel two days before.

Here's a playlist of three of my favorites from Frightened Rabbit in tribute to what I saw as his songwriting genius... the last being particularly great as I was sat next to the child he calls out in the crowd :)

Almost a week overdue, but here's the latest batch of music.

"Follow The Signs" is going on my list of top songs for the year. It really just makes me feel nostalgic and optimistic at the same time. It's dope.

"Crazy Crazy" is just a wild-ride of a song. Like Kyary Pamyu Pamyu songs are, there's this manic, Sugar High aesthetic in the song that's weirdly catchy. You don't think it'll work, and then it just does. I'm linking the remix instead of the original thing, since the original thing does contain some bust and panty shots of one of the models. It's not exactly NSFW, but your coworks may question why you're watching a woman in a bikini with her face transposed over playing the drums.

And for you younger members who haven't ever heard of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, I present to you this old (almost ten years old!) internet classic.

Keeping the crazy music video trend, we have Internet Money's "His and Hers." The song is...explicit, so I'm not gonna link it here. And really the best parts are the chorus, second verse, and the background music. But it's an interesting song to say the least...

Intervals is one of the Progressive Rock genre my brother-in-law is getting me into. "The Waterfront" makes you feel like you're watching the latest episode of My Hero Academia in all of the best ways. (Speaking of which, how's Season 5 so far?) "Impulsively Responsible" doesn't feel the same, but it's rhythmic and awesome all the same.

Lastly we have Tye Tribbett. He's a gospel artist and rapper, and I've really liked some of his songs. The first on the list "We Gon' Be Alright" is my new top song I want to sing in my choir. I may have spent a few hours dividing the song into parts and color-coding the lyrics...
This is a great thing, not because we're going to sing it (I highly doubt we will, and if we do, it won't be like how I imagine) but because I've been feeling like my Top Songs of 2021 list was already full, and now I know it isn't completely full just yet!

"WORK IT OUT" HAS A LOT OF BLACK AND WHITE FLASHING LIGHTS PLEASE BE CAREFUL WATCHING THIS.

EDIT: I almost forgot! Atarashii Gakkou!! released a new music video. Enjoy the craziness.

A few days behind, and I'll be mostly offline for the next few days, but here are the new songs I've been listening to, and some live performances of older ones.

Grateful Dead and Bob Dylan, not as great together as it sounds. Probably because both were past their prime and the Dead were best at doing their own thing as opposed to backing somebody else up but they're all too talented to be awful. The official live album wasn't great but this is a bootleg of what was apparently Jerry Garcia's original selections/mix that wasn't used and it's a lot better.

Very little new this week, and I'm totally fine with that.

More or less finished listening to Band-Maid's album World Domination. Overall, I liked the album, but not as much as CONQUEROR or Unseen World. (Which makes sense, given that the former got me hooked on Band-Maid in the first place, and the latter is the first album that came out after I was a fan.) There's a lot of variety, but not really tailored to my preferred sound from the band(-maid). But that's fine! Not every album is for every fan, and even this one has songs I now love on it. My three favorites at this moment are "Domination," (which really shouldn't count since it was one of the first Band-Maid songs I heard), "Clang" and "Anemone."

Udata Hikaru came out with a new song - and as non-binary! - but it's not my favorite. I'm still waiting on a new full album from them, but they usually take a while between albums, so I'll just settle in.

Oh, and that Google Fi song "Oop." It's weird, but it's catchy.

Lastly, Drake's "What's Next." The song itself is incredibly repetitive and simple, but in a way, that's what makes it catchy. The cadence of the words meld well with the beat of the song, creating something that people can listen to without really caring about what is being said, despite find out they actually memorized what's being said since it's the same few verses for the entire song. But I still like it for some reason.

Almost 25 years since I first heard this album, then gradually began to despise it as it got played about four times during my shift at an all night cafe. For months and months.

Oh but it's magnificent. Love this track.

    Music time!

First up is "The Search" by NF. I don't think I've put it down yet, but I've been listening to it for over a month, and it's time. (It's also the trailer song to the Rhythm of War anime in my head.)

A cool "Sweater Weather" cover that's both harder and far more sultry. Love it.

Egoist has a song slip by me, which was quickly corrected. Zettai Zetsumei, translated in this case as "Eleventh Hour," is very much in vein with what the band does, but I usually find the vibe on their non-anime songs.

The phrase isn't that unknown, which is why the band Co Shi Nie - a whose songs were also used for the anime Psycho-Pass - has a song of the same name. Both are awesome, and while I find Co Shi Nie's more impressive technically, I still prefer Egoist's song.

After that we have Post Malone's new song "Motley Crew." It just came out today, but I've already listened to it upwards of forty times. It's short, sweet, and good. It also accurately represents the vibe I've been feeling this week. My Hero Academia's upcoming chapter (319), me playing Mass Effect for the first time,* and this song all have me feeling like I have my "squad" right behind me. Please pardon the explicit nature of the song though.

Next up is One Okay Rock's song "Broken Heart of Gold," the theme song of Rurouni Kenshin: The Final. I don't love it as much as "The Beginning," which was the theme song of the first Rurouni Kenshin movie (not to be confused with the RK movie Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning, which is the final movie to come out.)

On the theme of rock and calling back to covers, we have Halocene with some awesome collaborations. The first two are Russian singer and metal artist Ai Mori, covering "Throne" and "Can You Feel My Heart" by Bring Me the Horizon. The next song is a cover of "In the End" by Linkin Park featuring NerdOut. "Throne" and "Can You Feel My Heart" are two of my favorite BMTH songs, so hearing them covered by these amazing artists was a pure blast. "In the End" is far from my favorite LP song, but it's a classic, and the collaborators are phenomenally skilled and do the most important part of putting their own spin on it.. ...and now I miss Chester...

For funsies, here's the original remix...which in turn makes me want to listen to Fort Minor...

Lastly, we have H.E.R. and Chris Brown. I used to like Chris Brown, but now he's one of my least favorite artists out there. What sucks even more is that there are still songs of his that I still like, even after everything that happened in 2009/2010 with Rihanna and beyond. He's a horrible, abusive, violent person (I can't even call him a man), but his skill is undeniable. I can't separate the art from the artist in his case, but I also won't deny songs of his that are good. But I refuse to link it here.
