I actually like Gun Gans in general. I mean, they are some skilled warriors. From what we’ve seen of them, we know that they can fight. I think most people immediately think Jar Jar when it comes to Gun Gans. Jar jar is especially clumsy, but most of the Gun Gans are great warriors. Also, they are quite advanced people when you think of it. Their cities that glow underwater are amazing. When I think of Gun Gans, I usually think of Tarpals

I absolutely love Gungans. They are interesting creatures. I feel like Disney is making a some-what half-hearted effort to reintroduce them back into canon (with not one but two important gungans in the High Republic series.) Plus, they were mentioned in passing in Mandalorian. It’s a shame because they are criticized because of one gungan in particular (Jar Jar). But I feel people’s attitudes would change if they 1) put a serious gungan character in a tv show/movie 2) make it a costume instead of CGI 3) don’t have it talk in a “meesa” accent (like the ones in the High Republic novels.)

Otoh Gunga and the swimming trip that Qui Gon, Obi Wan, and Jar Jar take to it .. along with the music in that scene .. is one of the coolest scenes in the Prequels.

    I agree.

Otoh Gunga looks so great. Also all the voyage in the bongo trough the core iys so nice. There's always a bigger fish.

I don't think that the race has anything wrong with it in particular. The technology that the Gungans possess is interesting and the society is as well. As a lot of people have said, Jar Jar is the problem. In TPM, we were introduced to the Gungans through Jar Jar, a very moronic and clumsy individual.

Gungans are normal creatures, jar jar is just braindead and is the exception, not the rule

I have a sweet spot for Jar Jar. The unfortunate thing is his character is unnecessary. While he is supposed to provide comic relief, it doesn't work very well. The humor just didn't mesh with the tone of the story. He doesn't really add anything to the story. You could argue that it is because of him that they discover the Gungan city and make the alliance with them, but Queen Amidala or someone of her people could have make that happen on their own. It would have worked better if his comedy was a bit more sophisticated and actually added something to the story, besides being a nuisance tag along. Like if he became really good friends with Anakin and helps him make the decision to leave or something. Also, the way the Gungans talk is annoying and hard to understand.

I never had a problem with Jar-Jar and the Gungans. I found them interesting. I thought Jar-Jar was naive, but not stupid. After all, he was the one who had suggested to Padme that she form an alliance with the Gungans in TPM. As for the whole situation regarding the extension of Palpatine's powers - he was naive enough to propose a vote on that. But what does that say about the Senate majority who eagerly voted for it?

I like the gungans and even Jar Jar Binks doesn't bother me much.

Something that I really liked about the gungans are the concept arts. Actually all the concept art made for The Phantom Menace are beautiful.

I didn’t know that Gunga City was also called Otoh Gunga. I thought you were saying “On the other hand Gunga and the swimming trip…” :D

I love the concept design for young Obi-Wan . . . before it was decided all the Jedi dressed like Uncle Owen for some reason.

Agree. Its much more interesting a variety of designs and colours than the brown robes that Lucas choosed.:(

Agreed. The decision to make Kenobi's hiding-away-in-the-wilderness hermit garbs the official uniform of the Jedi Knights is one of the things that irks me with the PT. It's a very minor issue, to be sure, but one that annoys me (probably more than it should).

Yeah, same here. I’m not genuinely bothered by it. It’s just one of those things like having a pair of shoes that don’t fit quite right.

I mean, if this how Jedi were known to have dressed, that they can be easily spotted just by that look, then what’s up with Luke’s sassy little black number in ROTJ? The character actively wants anyone who will listen to know that he’s a for really real Jedi. So . . . why dress like that? That’s weird.

When I was a kid I just assumed Luke was wearing the Jedi uniform. Y’know? Oh, I guess that’s how the Jedi Knights used to look. But . . . nope. They all dress like they just got back from a trip to the Sahara. Well, alright then, George. You’re the boss :)

Anyway, back on topic. Gungans . . . neat idea.
