I didn’t see a specific thread for The Acolyte (or if it was here it disappeared) so I’ll start one. Report all news, rumors, speculation, anything regarding the show.

As a Star Wars fan, I’ve been interested about the unknown, new planets, new species, and above all, new concepts. Out of the 11 announced tv shows for Disney+, The Acolyte has interested me the most. An intriguing emphasis on the “Dark Side,” a female lead, and our first look at the High Republic era, it seems to have the makings of a very unique show.

It's not the one I'm most excited for, but it's definitely the most interesting to me. Simply because it's a really fresh era for live action. The other shows are exciting but we kinda know what to expect. This show could be anything.

My one thought: will this intersect with Palpatine/Plagueis in any way? Only because it's so close to TPM and you might start running into canon issues if there's a big dark side plot.

I don’t think it will. The High Republic era was 200+ years before the events of TPM. However, I read recently (I forgot what news source. Maybe it was on this site) that suggested Acolyte will take place closer to The Phantom Menace than once initially believed. (I will have to try to find where I read that.) It does not make sense. The High Republic was when the Republic was at its pinnacle and should not be any time period close to the events of the films. The show is advertised as taking place in the “final days” of the High Republic, but there is no timeline as to how LONG the High Republic lasted.
I’m afraid the Plagueis/Palpatine film we want to see may have to wait. But this is indeed a great time period to explore. If I had any authority at Lucasfilm, I would have this film be about the line of sith lords from several hundred years ago and how their decisions become the Sith we already know. Perhaps they can re-write the origins of the “rule of two.” Something to think about...

As I understand it, the High Republic was from about 300 BBY to 82 BBY.

Palpatine was actually born in the final few years of the High Republic, in 84 BBY.

In don't think Plagueis will necessarily be the main character (given that Palpatine's speech genders Plagueis as a "he", and Acolyte apparently has a female lead) but perhaps "Acolyte" will focus on Plagueis's master?

Or, perhaps more interestingly, the protagonist of Acolyte will see the secret risings and machinations of the Sith Eternal on Exegol, with Plagueis's mastery over life maintaining a key component to the story.

Really, there's a lot of stuff that could tie into this story, if they want- clones on Exegol and Kamino, Snoke, Gideon's apparent plan for Grogu, etc.

Or they could go a complete other route and make something mostly new. Personally, I'd prefer that, at least on paper. I think it would be cool the see some Plagueis stuff in the background, as well as whatever shift apparently happened to denote the fall from the "High Republic" to the period of still relative stability during TPM. But it would be cool if the focus was on a more grounded member of the Sith Eternal. The world building could go a long way to addressing how weird it was that there were apparently a bazillion people on what seemed to be a barren planet with Exegol, too.

I'm very excited for this series and I'm hopeful that it will in some ways incorporate Plagueis. While it's hard to see how Palpatine could fit into what we know of the timeline of "The Acolyte," its perfectly conceivable that Plagueis can fit in. I don't believe Plagueis' species is ever specified in canon, so conceivably he can be alive for all of the High Republic era. Anything that sheds more light on Palpatine's story from Episode III or the Exegol scenes of Episode IX would be a big thrill for me.

I could maybe (maybe) see Palpatine being born in the final shots of the Acolyte, in a kinda perverse echoing of Luke and Leia's births at the end of the prequels.

But I don't think baby Palp's making any big moves this time.

Hey, then we'd have BabyYoda and Baby Palpatine! Now we just need Baby Windu and we'll be well on our ways to a Star Wars version of Muppet Babies!

Definitely looking forward to this one. I’ve been wanting to see some more Star Wars that isn’t in the Skywalker Era. I love it but they continue to fill in the gaps of that era and don’t focus on other time periods.

I don’t know why, I picture the acolyte around 50 years before TPM (I wonder if it isn’t the resistance podcast who mentioned that). Anyway, as it is happening during the final years of the high republic it’s quite safe to bet it’s about those restarting/growing the sith ideology and wink at darth plagueis rise (that we see him or not).

What I would love is for the series to follows a pattern similar to the Mandalorian’s or rebels’ with: A fresh first season with unknown characters, then if successful link the second season with the known Star Wars universe. 1st season could be young adults/padawans discovering Sith artefacts and finding it attractive (most probably one resisting and one going full dark side to see a contrast). Then once the series is well received it would be possible to have a jedi council in one or two episodes of the 2nd season while our main characters end up interacting/setting up the Plagueis story.

I think Leslye Headland mentioned taking inspiration from Indiana jones/adventure stories.

I don’t know if it was said it would be a limited series or not?

So, just doing some thought experiments here...

The Acolyte "is a mystery thriller that will take us into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging Dark Side powers in the final days of the High Republic era"
    +
    Female-centric & martial arts
    +
Going on "in a pocket of the universe and a pocket of the timeline that we don't know much about".
    =
I think there are good chances that this show will be about one or more Dathomir Nightsister (or other witch), possibly expelled from the order or who goes out into the High Republic to spy on the Jedi and such?

Yeah, I've got a Nightsister feeling about this one :D

Yes, that always seems to be the case with things.

I also hope this is the show that breaks the mold, visually and thematically. Leslye Headland’s “Russian Doll” was said to be heavy on the drama and suspense. I hope Disney lets her incorporate this into the show. And I am personally getting tired of looking at x-wings and imperial bases and white hallways. If they can incorporate the visual stye of the High Republic I’ve seen from the comics, I would be very happy.

I voted most interesting, but I might be "more excited" about other shows. In any case I'm really looking forward to it. I like some of the speculation here. If it is more firmly rooted in the high republic era, I hope it does a bit more to aesthetically differentiate itself from the rest of star wars. The comics set in the high republic don't *feel* a whole lot different than prequel era star wars, as much as I'm enjoying them nonetheless.

As a huge comic book fan, the High Republic comic books from IDW publishing and Marvel Comics ( these comics books are catered toward teens. I read both mature/adult comic books and teen books, so there is something for everyone to enjoy, as an aspiring writer and artist I read and consume both types of books. I recommend, Star Wars Light of the Jedi, the relationships between the Jedi/Padawan are amazing, Charles Soule is a great comic book writer and novelist. He is currently writing Marvel's Star Wars ongoing series, The War of the Bounty Hunters, and the follow up Crimson Reign) are not as good as the novels in the series. The novels are richer in context; however, there are some Marvel Star Wars Legend comic book series that would do justice to the IP.

I look forward to the Acolyte and how the Jedi/Padawan are depicted in the series.
