As an unironic Darth Jar Jar (or more "Dark Side Jar Jar") fan, I find this hilarious.

The Jedi are a philosophical organization, not just a job. It's not just Anakin's employer, it's his entire social network and support system. It's Anakin's path to glory and esteem. (In his eyes anyways.)
But you're also right in that it's not ethically clear cut, because the Jedi aren't entirely right in how they went about things. But thematically, its certainly clear cut - Anakin goes to the Dark Side because of his selfishness, and returns to the light because of someone else's selflessness.
But the Jedi also weren't wrong - Anakin wasn't fully devoted to his "job" because he had a wife. There were times when his feelings got in the way of things, and Anakin and Padme's relationship resulted in Palpatine living through Mace's attack.*
It's not selfish to want companionship and to desire a partner. It is selfish to do so when you know it could compromise everything you've worked for, and explicitly goes against the group you've sworn yourself to and want to succeed in.

*YMMV here. Some think Palpatine self-sabotaged the fight because he felt Anakin coming, and knew that if Anakin saw the Jedi as the aggressors, he'd flip. I don't think that's an impossible theory at all, but I'm personally a fan of the idea that Mace would have killed Palpatine then and there. The point is that Anakin's desire to save Padme (which was in some ways selfish in that he was asking for more time than allowed, but perfectly acceptable as a husband...which he only was because he was too selfish to not enter a relationship with Padme) helped bring down the Jedi.

That Rey decided to stay on another desert planet forever after making a new lightsaber, assembling a found family in the Resistance, and making a serious connection with two incredibly powerful Jedi that are now immortal in the Force (who she just gave a symbolic burial to), and taking the name of the bloodline that effectively adopted her and helped her realize her true potential. After taking a ship that belongs to her first mentor's best friend and a droid that belongs to her best friend's other best friend.

None of which makes any sense based on the context of what the scene actually is... But hey, people like to get mad at things.

Hmmmm.... I wonder if the clones were ready. Also dadgum! Anakin would have flipped his biscuit seeing Padme's savior die and attack Windu on the spot. Shoot, I'd even be cool with Snoke if his source material was Plagueis. But I digress.

    SO TRUE.

Rey flies to Tatooine to pay homage to Luke, and for whatever incomprehensible reason half the internet seems to think that she's never going to leave the abandoned homestead. Like, space travel still exists in the GFFA, y'all. It didn't just inexplicably stop midway through that scene. It's just... bizarre that people misread the scene so badly.

Like, sometimes I go visit my deceased relatives in cemeteries, but I don't end up living among the headstones afterward :p

Wasn’t it because the John Williams score for that scene is called “A New Home”? And some people don’t understand that soundtrack titles aren’t dictating the story? Am I being too generous?

I'd never heard that used to support the argument before, but maybe some people thought that.

Others, I doubt put even that much thought into it.

And Leia. Don't forget. The ST is Leia's trilogy.

I would've liked the scene a little more if she buried the lightsabers at Shmi's gravestone, though.

"I'm a die-hard star wars fan because disney bought star wars. I am now a star wars fan."

"Star-Whatever. Star Wars and Star Trek are the same thing."

I have been told that a birthday is, "life day," "origin day," etc. Life Day is a literal galactic holiday.

I have many more funny anecdotes but these are a few of my favorite things.

Some people think that Owen and Anakin are half brothers. They are actually step brothers. Owen is not Shmi’s child.

Some people think Yoda lost his mind on Dagobah. He was obviously just testing Luke.

But you probably already knew those.

Why is Plagueis so widely praised based on the fact that he's Palpatine's teacher and could prevent people from dying? I will never understand this. He's a Lich-type character, same as the Emperor's facial makeup is described in the Making of Return of the Jedi (the Emperor is described as being really old, having cheated death).

But unless we are talking about the Plagueis novel, of which I possess very little to no knowledge of, in respect to Plagueis's character (in which I will not argue against it, since I don't know much about it), Plagueis (besides an absolutely atrocious name) is pretty pointless, aside from a plot point of Palpatine of luring Anakin in and Palpatine's backstory (which is still relatively pointless within the context of Revenge of the Sith's plot- Confused Matthew states how boring it is).

I know that the appeal of Plagueis is a BIG BAD, or the appeal of a BIG BAD behind Palpatine. The REAL VILLAIN OR BIG BAD IS THE DARK SIDE. Lucas SAID IT.

Unless we want to assume: Plagueis>Dark Side>Palpatine>Darth Vader/Imperials is the line or chain of command of evil, then the Dark Side is always going to be top dog. It's Dark Side>Plagueis>Palpatine>Darth Vader/Imperials. Always. And because it is, it's going to infuriate fans in a never-ending cycle because the dark side can't be put away or destroyed in Star Wars- the most it can be is pushed back. No one can bring justice to the dark side in the Star Was mythos. No one can kill it in the Star Wars mythos. The dark side will rise up, again and again, because it wants to spread its reign within the galaxy, and the galaxy is bound by the light and dark sides of the Force. The evil will always rise up again.

Another thing is how passionless BOTH Plagueis and Palpatine appear to be compared to the illusion (due to the purpose of it being temptation) of Vader's dialogue of "We can end this destructive conflict and bring order to the galaxy" and "If you only knew the power of the Dark Side, which seems to promise ambition or obtaining control/reigning the galaxy. Both Plagueis and Palpatine are these extensions, but I think Vader might just be trying to aim for something with ultimate control or his cutthroat tactics in TESB.
    --- Double Post Merged, Sep 24, 2021, Original Post Date: Sep 24, 2021 ---
    Another thing:
The Emperor's theme/s vs. this theme.

Take your pick, but I think that Balinese Gamelan is more unsettling than the chorus in Star Wars. And far less operatic. This is a Lich done right. (Thanatos is super underrated, plus his characterization led to BOTH Kefka and Sephiroth.)

If one is to understand the great "omagerd itz Plagueis" mystery, one must study all its aspects, not just the dogmatic narrow view of the Lich. If you wish to become a complete and wise Damask-basher, you must embrace...a larger view of the force.:)

    About that....
Passionless and Plagueis? In the same the sentence? Icy fury baby, u should get u some of that.;)

What else is there to discuss beyond the Star Wars Insider (#130) story about the murder of Darth Tenebrous & a passing mention in the Tarkin novel? TBS, I DDG'd Darth Plagueis Rhen Var I just found a link to a vid made in July when some tuber spliced a Plagueis action figure into 9 so I scrolled down through the comments and here's a random snap from the scroll stop. Snap 836PM pacific random scroll.PNG
Certainly not canon, but those who know something about the backstory seem like it. So there's that.

    Here is one passage:

"You have the Force, apprentice, and the talent to lead. More, you have the bloodlust of a serial killer, though we need to hold that in reserve unless violence serves some extraordinary purpose. We are not butchers, Sidious, like some past Sith Lords. We are architects of the future."
    "How long?"
"Not a standard day sooner than a decade."

―Darth Plagueis and Darth Sidious during one of their first training sessions on Mygeeto

Perhaps if you read the novel, you'll find more to discuss or, dislike. :D

There seems to be a popular misconception that Anakin was prevented from easing his mother's hardship on Tatooine all that time he was training to be a Jedi and that provided motivation for Anakin to betray the Jedi in the end. But Schmi actually had a relatively comfortable and happy life without Anakin right up until the events of Attack Of The Clones when she was abducted by the sand people. Anakin's problem was that when he responded (quickly and without any intervention by the Jedi order to prevent him) to his sense that something bad was happening he wasn't powerful enough to prevent the inevitable.

Misconceptions.... that Rey's real name is "Rey".

She (whatever her real name is) appropriated the last name "Rey" from a name painted on the side of an old X-Wing pilot helmet that she found on Jakku, which belonged to a Rebel pilot called Dosmit Ræh of the Tierfon Yellow Aces.

I'm not certain if this is a genuine misconception or something that people have chosen to believe in order to serve their head canon, or a mixture of both, but I sometimes hear fans say that Obi Wan let Vader beat him in the duel aboard the Death Star. I guess this is to explain away the perceived mismatch in light of George's commentary that Vader is actually NOT the powerful warrior he should have been and had lost a lot of his strength after being defeated by Obi-Wan at Mustafar. Obi Wan should therefore be capable of defeating his quadruple amputee former pupil. Since size matters not then you would have thought that Kenobi in his late fifties would still be potent enough.

Well to me it's always been clear that Obi-Wan is too old, as he explicitly states, and he realises he's reached a moment of destiny. He's even prepared Luke for it with "There are alternatives to fighting [a battle you can't win]" and their farewell where Ben talks of "destiny" right before they part. Of course Kenobi allows Vader to strike him down. But only at the moment that he chooses. And in which he demonstrates one of those alternatives he spoke about earlier.

The idea that Obi-Wan could have defeated Vader there but chose to let his pupil beat him makes no sense. Especially as a diversion. Since Luke almost blows it when he witnesses Ben's death. At best you could suggest that the others would have tried to save Ben or delay their escape in the hope that he would make it back to the ship, and that this forced Luke to flee (although it was Ben's disembodied voice that ultimately did this.) But that still makes little sense of Ben was capable of defeating Vader at this moment.

@Martoto I do think Ben Kenobi let Vader beat him.
The only thing he wanted, when he chose to face his former padawan was to occupy Vader's spirit, to divert it, to make Vader focus on him, in order to let his frieds (Luke, Leia and Han) go.
I think Ben Kenobi knew the fight was lost for him from the start.
    Thats what I've always tought.

Letting someone beat you implies that defeat is a choice. And that winning was a possibility you declined.

If the fight was lost from the start then it's not a matter of letting your opponent beat you. It's a question of how and when you "lose".
