This thread may or may not be what you expected, but I could not think of anything better for the title. At the risk of click-baiting you (did it work?) let's talk about which legendary character will be returning next with the assistance of some de-aging, deep fakes, or what-have-you.

Han Solo has already been re-cast to mixed reactions. Young Luke Skywalker returned (via Mark Hamill) but with an extremely different reaction. If Disney is going to continue to explore the past of some legendary characters, who will be the next to return? In what series or film? Will they be a major player or a minor cameo?

With the success and popularity of the finale of Mando Season 2, Disney has to be aware of the seemingly infinite revenue streams cinematic possibilities ahead of them. Should this technology be reserved for Disney+ series in small doses, or could we possibly see a Shadows of the Empire type of cinematic adventure featuring our favorite galactic trio with the likes of Ford, Fisher, and Hamill?

This is a tough one... my initial take is that if the franchise is to successfully continue it really, really needs to draw a line with the OT cast.
Those characters will always be at the very core of our GFFA, but they cannot be all that it hinges on.

There's been some real progress in the world-building of the SW universe, simply by introducing other characters who's actions and adventures have shown that the galaxy doesn't exist solely for the bloodline of one (messed up if we're honest!) family and their various friends and aquaintances.

TCW has given us the surprisingly enduring Ahsoka, Rex and co, Rebels brought us a whole new crew and now the Mandalorian has brought Din, Grogu, Moff Gideon etc... sure, all of those shows have wedged a pleasing cameo in, but their stories have proved that the franchise can exist without the heroes which founded it all for so many of us as viewers.

    TL;DR
I've voted Luke/Ahsoka, but for the latter rather than former, plus 'Other' as I'm ready to see new heroes emerge, find their way and grow into this universe - whether it's Broom Boy, the offspring of Poe and Zorii or someone hitherto unannounced... just make it epic and entertaining like SW should be.

I really, really want to see a more de-aging magic project with Billie Lourd body-doubling as Leia for Carrie's face. I don't care what the story is, I don't even care if it is any good; my heart just needs this...

Other than that, I actually believe there is a strong argument for doing a bit more with the OT characters to build up the story. The OT is VERY central and core to Star Wars (obviously), but it is also pretty narrow story-wise, and I would very much like to see a broader-world kind of story, featuring the OT cast (de-aged/CGI-ed) in a support capacity. I mean, I don't really need to see Splinter in the Mind's Eye or Shadows of the Empire type stories, with the OT heroes taking the front seat, but the Age of Rebelion era is so important in the grand scheme of things that we really, really could do with more live-action coverage of the fates and conflicts and destinies and stories that unfolded during those years.

So basically, I want more Rogue One to build up on what we've got already, with the OT characters playing key parts, but not main parts. I want to see more stories about why the Galactic Civil War matters, more character arcs entwined with the whole thing, more context beyond the space wizards steering the course of history and a single family being at the crux of it all. I want to see a Band of Rebel Brothers fighting and dying for the good of sentient-kind; I want to see the Empire brutalizing the Galaxy for the good of Empire; I want to see moral grays beyond the clear-cut first two scenarios; and occasionally, I want to see Leia rallying some troops or swaying some politicians, Luke risking it all by getting involved, and a cocky Han risking it all and fail only to lucking his way to success anyway... and I want to see R2 & C3PO going on a spy mission, Chewie protecting everybody, Wedge and the gang doing some flying, Lando being a scoundrel with a heart of gold... and I need to see Darth Vader crushing all hope and tearing the Galaxy apart to get what he wants, with the brief, occasional glimpses of internal turmoil. There is SO much that I need out of the OT still, in live-action, and I cannot agree that the OT era is done. Eventually it will be, but there is a lot left to explore.

Oh, by the Whills I'm looking forward to Andor!

I'd say we'll get a gracefully de-aged Kylo Ren. Yes, there's no show with the FO announced yet, but I'm positive the Dark Prince will be the next.

HELLO GOOD SIR! CAN I INTEREST YOU IN A RETCON OF BILLIE LOURD'S CHARACTER, WHERE SHE IS ACTUALLY REVEALED TO BE LEIA'S DAUGHTER WHO WAS ADOPTED BY ANOTHER FAMILY? (No? Well, onto the next person!)

My friends pointed out that Lucasfilm may be trying to do a slight remake of Heir to the Empire, either as a big thing or as part of Ahsoka's show. Heir takes place five years after ROTJ...which is conveniently when the post-credit scene of Rebels takes place, alongside The Mandalorian, Heroes of the Republic, and most likely Ahsoka. I can see some old characters returning in de-aged or recast parts for that.

Personally I'd like to see an Obi-Wan prequel that takes place during his time on Mandalore with Satine, in the style of a Wuxia-Samurai hybrid film (like a weird mix between House of Flying Daggers and Ran). I may or may not have a story/trilogy like that in mind already...

Or Ben Solo in a pre-TFA story with Luke. But I actually don't need any deaging for such things.

But to be honest I hope they rather focus on new characters instead of bringing back versions of characters we already know.

If they want to tell a story with those old characters, then do it animated. IMO these deepfakes still have an unnatural feel to me. They may look like the original persons, but they don't feel and act like them. This is more forgiving in an animated project.

I think Luke making another appearance is inevitable since Grogu has to be brought back in to the fold somehow. I also think it’d be one of the biggest missed opportunities in Star Wars to not have Luke and Ahsoka share a scene in her show or one of these other ones, so I predict that we’ll get him back two more times, but hopefully not much more as I don’t want to take away from the magic of his Mandalorian appearance too much.

I also think de-aged versions of Hayden/Anakin, Ewan/Obi-Wan and Temuera Morrison as clones like Rex or Cody is very likely for the Kenobi series, even if the former two don’t even need it that bad. I just can’t see them bringing Hayden Christensen back and not doing any flashback scenes.

Here’s my stance on the subject of de-aging:
I LOVE the technology behind it. I loved every scene so far that featured it (especially Grand Moff Tarkin.) It really pushes the envelope, as CG human faces is the holy grail of special effects.
However, in this thread’s poll I had to vote “other” because, quite frankly, we’ve seen enough young Luke, Han, Leia. It’s time to move on.
So if I had to guess who the next de-aged character would be, my answer is obvious:
    Yoda.
The trend is going back to the early days of the republic, specifically the High Republic era. Yoda was in his prime. I would love to see that character with less wrinkles and more hair, because it plays directly into the storyline of the era. In other words, Yoda was an important figure in the HR era, and this gives filmmakers a good excuse to include him.

I find your lack of love, etc.

Nothing about Yoda never came out, he is the most secret guy ever in SW.

Any chance we get (a 1980s Harrison Ford) Han Solo in BoBF ? I know the story doesn't really look like we're going there, and not saying it really should. But out of anyone who who would fit into the plot, it would have to be him, right?

In a way you can say Daniel Logan is the next “young luke skywalker” because they used computer trickery to insert young Boba into a scene. I know, it’s old footage for the most part, but it was a similar idea, akin to the Luke/Leia fight in Rise of Skywalker.

I'd prefer to see Adam Driver in a show post ST about Ben Solo, but only if his character comes back from the dead. I know as a Kylo/Ben fan I'm in the minority, but I'd love to see his story continue.

I went with Kenobi and Jinn, because I REALLY enjoyed that era when there were MANY Jedi, and the council still existed....before the dark times.

The deep fakes are cool and I think they should be used sparingly such as flash backs and saved for movies. I think any stories dealing with Luke, Leia and Han before TFA should all be animated. I can give animation a pass since the existing actors are too old to do those adventures and or no longer with us. Also those stories were missed during the 90s and early 2000s so animation would make more sense. I honestly would not want to see a deep fake with the OG cast because it's not the same. It's not the actors themselves playing the part. I would be very mad to see all 3 characters together in a live action show when it should of been done in TFA and the rest of the ST since Disney literally had he opportunity but didn't do it for whatever reasons...

But to answer the question, I think Leia would be the next OT cast to be deep faked again

How about a new character? Is it now against the law for Lucasfilm to introduce a new protagonist, instead of reaching back for old characters, time and time again?
