(Opinion) Rogue One is peak Star Wars and a brilliant prequel to the OT.

To be fair, Disney did say they were going to do that Day 1, not sure you're acting so surprised about them doing it.

I think "contextualizing" might be a better way of looking at it.

For instance, without spoiling anything I can say that Black Widow contextualizes several things in the MCU from several years ago throughout her character's development. Doesn't mean it's a retcon or anything, it's just a deeper dive into what's come before- just that, since it's all fiction, the writers have some licensing to be creative.

Anyway, I agree Rogue One is kinda the pinnacle of what Star Wars can be, going forward. It still has some of the themes and messages of the originals, but told in a totally new way, and one that isn't hyper-focused on the jedi or Skywalker family. I'd much prefer some strong standalone films like this to an Episode 10 any time soon.

    fair enough.

Any way to get back to the Topic on a personal level Im so so happy thar R1 came out in 2016 & not TLJ because as much as I love the TLJ I wasn’t in the best of places in 2016 & I’m not sure if I would have dealt with the amount of insane C*** that went down with TLJ release.

so yep R1 will always have the most emotional impact for me of the Disney Era SW films.

    G. Walton Lucas was taken behind the proverbial msg-board woodshed for ALL of his PT/EU-Cherry Picking. Basher sanctuaries were created. When you reach that step, you've been banning the poo-doo out of your member base. IIRC, there was even a running list of George & Fat Rick Mac's offenses! :p So yeah, this whole "muh cherry picking from the EU" thing is almost as fresh as "muh Stop-Motion-OT is BETTER than yer CGI-PT".

It's ironic, one of the greatest Jedi ever to grace the pages of that medium was in fact, cherry picked from the background of The Phantom Plagueis, er.... I mean Menace. #BozPityRulez

    Please cite an example.

I would love to read one.
    :)

I meaan.... I've mix feeling about Rogue One. Is The Darth Vader scene Awesome?
    YES!!
It's the only Star Wars movie you actually looks like a War movie?
    YES!!
I remember a single characters name? Or I care if they die or not?
    ... nope!

Sorry guys, but I know Rogue One is successful in many fields, but (pardon the pun) there are no Stars. Rogue One is a good sci-fi war movie. But for me Star Wars was always about the characters and the story, there aren't any characters in Rogue One just interesting people and the story ... well, I don't think it was really necessary.

If you enjoyed the movie fine, I like that too, but put in the best Star Wars movies? I really don't understand.

Rogue One is the best Star Wars since 1983 in my humble opinion!
