I've been revisiting my old ideas on how I'd like a sequel for this to work in my spare time these past couple of months*, so I decided to break out the game itself this weekend and finish it. I forgot how fun the combat can be, but I also forgot how bad the story is, and how...dated this game is and feels. The original game came out in 2015 IIRC, and Persona 5 in 2016. It's not fair for me to compare the two, as TMS#FE probably ran on an engine more akin to Persona 4's engine than P5's, but that's where my mind takes me. Ultimately, I'll probably finish up this game in the next 10 or so hours of gameplay time. With doing pretty much everything available, that makes it a roughly 50 hour game. That's not bad, but with a lackluster plot, no new units or classes, and very little post-game, it has little replayability for me.** Still, going back to the game will be very helpful for the document idea.

Replaying some of Three Houses in the meantime as well. It's been fun, but I've been reminded during this playthrough how my previous playthrough was all erased. I had spent that ENTIRE PLAYTHRUOGH helping Hilda learn Bolting, which mean ruining all of her stats and bases, and it's all gone. Sigh...I'll do it again eventually, but I'm not sure if I want this to be the playthrough I do that on just yet.

*To the point where it turned from a maybe five page document at best to an over 60 paged one. Granted, most of those pages are lists for characters and their classes, but it's still crazy.
**Replayability isn't necessarily needed for me to like and enjoy a game. Honestly, there are very few games that I replay; but even of the best ones that I don't replay, the desire to replay them is still there. Several of those types of games, like Pokemon, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and the PS4 Spider-Man, aren't replayed because as much as I want to reexperience everything, I don't want to lose all of the process I've gained, or have to actually play the game. I want the experience, not necessarily the game, if that makes sense. Meanwhile with Fire Emblem and Persona 5, I want the experience AND the game. FE and Persona have maps that can't be revisited in the same way, linking the gameplay and the experience together. This isn't always a good thing, as if there's a route or level that is great for story and terrible for gameplay, you have to take the good with the bad.

I think I have to update my graphic card or download the new update... I've got an external hard drive so it can't be the memory... who knows... gonna play DOOM ETERNAL in the meantime.

I ended up beating the game a few weeks ago, within those ten hours of gameplay I had assumed. My endgame characters were really strong, with most of my party maxing out at least one stat - Speed for Tsubasa and Yashiro, Skill for Ellie, and Magic for Kiria. Mamori was high eighties with Defense, while Touma had an impressive Strength stat, as did Itsuki. To these characters, the endgame boss was nothing more than business as usual with a little extra annoyance thrown in. Honestly, I was more afraid of the Dangerous Dungeon Enemies that kept spawning (especially if you're over-leveled like I was) than the boss. Even the arena was harder that the boss! Although to be fair, that was due to the limitations and types of enemies you end up facing.
My feelings on the game also haven't changed. The UI is actually really well-done, as are the combat and character artwork; but the characters themselves are hit-or-miss, and the plot is abysmal. I think this game is underrated, but I can't really recommend it as highly as I'd like to either. It's great for those who want something relatively relaxing to play as they watch tv or listen to a podcast; it's good for fans of modern Persona games who want more but don't want to invest in an entire new playthrough (and aren't yet ready to dive into Fire Emblem: Three Houses). I can't say it's good for Fire Emblem fans, as its lack of overall representation (a problem I did not have in my sequel ideas) due to exclusively using characters Marth's games and Awakening, and the gameplay leave much to be desired. If you want a semi-lighthearted Fire Emblem game that takes little mental investment but scratches that itch, then Fire Emblem Heroes may be better. THAT BEING SAID, Heroes is a Gatcha game, and those are the worst.

Ultimately, I don't regret buying this game on the WiiU, and I don't regret buying the rerelease for the Switch. It's a solid game, and one that fans of Persona, Fire Emblem and probably Sakura Wars (Idk I haven't ever played a game in that franchise; I've just heard how similar some of the ideas are.)

Oh, and there isn't any post-game. There's New Game Plus, and that offers a few more skills and costumes, alongside a bonus boss, but that's about it from what I know.

Top Games First Played in 2021:

    Mass Effect Legendary Edition*
    Dark Deity

*Sort of a cheat, since ME 1 is the only game of the three I hadn't played. But it's also been almost ten years since I played ME2 and probably around 5-6 since ME3. Still experiencing the trilogy as a trilogy was new, so I'm counting it. (Also because I didn't play that many games this year.)

After a full year of owning and avoiding it, I finally started playing Cyberpunk 2077 a couple of weeks ago (on a 2014 Xbox One). It's been a relatively smooth experience but there are significant audio sync bugs during some convo's & cutscene's and some framerate issues; but nothing game breaking so far. There's nothing special about it and it plays like a very generic/below average open world game. There are also features that are basic in other games like it that are not well implemented or absent entirely. Overall, I'd give it a 5/10.

Currently about to take on Ilos in Mass Effect 1 (M!Shepard, Engineer, Colonist/Sole Survivor, Paragon, Miranda Romance) and finish up so I can play ME 2 again, although it feels like yesterday since I played ME 2, as I had just beat it before diving back into ME 1. (ME 2 was FemShep, Vanguard, Spacer/Ruthless, Paragade, Garrus romance) I'll probably go back to my FemShep profile for ME 3, at least for a little bit, before diving into my latest M!Shep one, but we'll see. Maybe I'll even break out Andromeda and beat that again. Stranger things have happened.

After that, it should be time for Pokemon Legends Arceus. Overall, my gaming plans for this year are simple:

Play a game that's new to my franchise wheelhouse.
    Fund a game on Kickstarter
    Finish Dark Deity hopefully
Play more than two new games this year

Some of this is easier than other parts, due to my own gaming habits and my lack of a PS5 (coming in 2023), but other parts should be easy to handle. In terms of games for the foreseeable future, I plan on buying Pokemon Legends Arceus later this month, Kirby and the Forgotten Land in March, and Rune Factory 5 in May, all on their release day. These three games should nearly double my Switch Library* and last me a nice portion of the year, assuming they're good and I can get into them.

Beyond that, things are a little trickier. Coral Island and Digimon Survive have no set release dates yet, and probably won't release until late 2022 if at all. There's also been no official confirmation of a new Fire Emblem game, despite many "leakers" believing one is in development and should be announced soon.** AAA games like Gotham Knights and Horizon: Forbidden West can be played on both PS4 and PS5, but I'd rather wait until I have a PS5 to enjoy them at their best. Now, if the Jedi Fallen Order isn't delayed until 2022, then I may get both the PS4 and PS5 versions.

Overall, 2022 should be host a refreshing group of games that I can munch on throughout the year before 2023 punches me in the face with all of its games.

*Yes, I only have five Switch games:
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wilds - Not my cup of tea
Pokemon Sword/Shield - Beat once, never saw a reason to go back
Fire Emblem: Three Houses - Play constantly, but a little burnt out right now
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE - Beat once, never saw a reason to go back
Fire Emblem 1 Port - Will never really play

**Many leakers believe the next FE game to be a remake, yet no leaker can tell exactly what game is being remade, or if the next game is actually a remake! Many have put their eggs into the Genealogy remake basket, while others think it will be Tellius. I'm hoping for anything OTHER than Tellius at this time, but we'll see.
