Here's a few fun facts..Harrison Ford has a son called Ben. And it was his idea for Kylo's real name to be Ben.
Adam Driver did not have the best childhood.
There was a real chemistry between them. I'd love them to do another film together where they were father and son.

I am terribly sorry. I went off the rails and it became a personal attack. I had to take a week off because I felt like I was going to get back to my old habits. I didn't have the right to judge you based on the few posts I read, and even then I shouldn't judge you anyway. Forums are a complicated way to communicate and sometimes they bring out the worst in me.
I regretted the post the moment I sent it and had doubts even as I wrote it. But I was frustrated and afraid that someone would criticize my work (and I'm still pretty unsure whether to share it or not). But I have no excuse, sorry... I should do better, I don't know what made me flip.
I'm stubborn and pretentious. I'm both pride and insecure, and I'm not very good at being humble or assertive. I take responsibility of everything I've said and I'm sorry of having said that. Please forgive me, I'll try to be more accepting and neutral in the future.

I just wanted to prove a point: Some people could see Leia as good parent, some other could see her as a bad mother, some other not even as a mother. However my opinion or your opinion "doesn't matter" if you or I are unable of accept the opinion of someone else. That's it.
But I'll the first to admit my post came in the wrong way, it's my fault: I've tried to be openminded but I showed a lot of prejudices. I came along like a prude moral zealot who claims the right to tell others what to say and how to say it. I had a bad experience in a forum like this, and then I quit because I was too tired of trying to balance everyone's opinions. It was my problem in the past and I thought I had overcome it, but it was too easy a temptation and I fell into it again.
I am sorry to have interrupted the topic and the conversation. I will stay a bit away from the forum until I can keep my judgments in check. I apologize to everyone and good night.

Well, you didn't upset me, Dryden, it's so easy to get carried away and frankly I found a lot more hostility on the 'other forum', to the extent I'm glad they banned me as being on there, especially as a Kylo fan, was not good for my mental health - or my ego for that matter - and I'm too stubborn to bow out when it's time to leave. For the record, hope you'll be back soon!;)

You never offended me. There was a misunderstanding of position which needed some clearing up, but that's all.
I don't think you need to go away or profusely apologize in my regard.

I don't write with an ambition of frustration. If I frustrate you, just let me know.

    Cheers,
    Jayson

Talking of offensive...I still 'lurk' on the JCF, purely to check out any interesting links they sometimes post, and they have driven two more posters off there. One is a Kylo fan - a male one, I must add - and the other was defending people who 'ship' reylo against charges of 'liking abusive relationships.'

Both have quit themselves, and the forum now is mostly peopled by Finn fans and Kylo haters. What I really don't like is one of the most fervent Kylo/reylo haters is also a mod, and I'm sorry but she is abusing her status - she cracks down on anyone who tries to defend Kylo yet has not only permitted but also encouraged (by liking) some pretty offensive comments by those who hate him.

I remember the days when talking about SW was 'fun'!

The point of the trilogy is regeneration of the collective consciousness, and its manifestation in the people of the galaxy making a willful and courageous decision to keep down the empire, which only they could have consented to and participated in. The emperor never built the world-destroying weapons. Order followers did. They could stop any time they wanted to, like Anakin.

Luke Skywalker and his father have turned the tide, in consciousness, against another empire rising up from within the psyche. Rey and Ben artistically present the struggle in the collective mind. That shift in consciousness is the rise of Skywalker. Conditions are ripe for a new republic.

Exegol is deep in the collective unconscious, where a new dark empire has difficulty navigating upwards from the deepest part of ourselves.

When TLJ was out, I thought the ST was about the birth of a new version of the Jedi, where a balance would finally be achieved between the dark and light sides of the Force. This is why, at the time, I was a reylo fan.....I thought Rey and Kylo/Ben would bring about the Balance between them, as both of them were more 'grey' than black/white.

This is one of the many, many reasons TROS was so disappointing to me on a personal level. I'd love to know what Rian Johnson really thinks about TROS, as a large part of it seemed to exist purely to erase most of what he'd written!

Yes, TROS spat on TLJ, but TLJ also spat on TFA, and at least in my opinion, all three of them spat on GL.

A unified plan/vision from the start would have really gone a long way.

That's what happens when a massive corporate machine seeks to maximize profit as quickly as possible and cash in on their acquisition. GL's basic idea for a third trilogy was likely followed.
Prequel trilogy, the fall of consciousness. Sunset.
Original trilogy, the redemption and recovery of consciousness, rebel against empire, restore hope. The spiritual light leaves home to find his sister, matter, whom is hopeless trying to rebel against dark in the material world without inner light from which she was separated at birth. "...This is our most desperate hour. Help me Obi-wan Kenobi. You're my only hope." The light rescues her. Father redeemed. Hope restored. Dawn.
Sequel trilogy, hope fulfilled, consciousness rises in all the people to resist and keep the empire down. Light returned home with sister, placed into the earth. Sunrise. (rise of the sky walker, the internal sun of consciousness) That's the general direction GL must have had in mind.

    Opera ends in a children's knock-knock joke:

    Rey: Knock knock.
Old lady wandering in the spiritual desert: Who's there?
    Rey: Rey.
    Old lady: Rey who?
Rey: Rey Sky Walker (ray of sunlight)

The last force user seen standing in the SAGA was Palpatine's cloned grand daughter, so I have no idea what they were thinking.

Don't need any Disney, media or fanboy explanations, either. It just is what it is.

There is a lot of speculation that they changed the ending at the last moment...and also that Rey being a 'Palpatine' was a last minute decision.

I personally suspect Ben Solo was not meant to die originally....which was why there was no Force ghost, no mention of him sacrificing himself to save Rey...in fact, his character wasn't even referred to post his on screen 'death' - compare it to the end of ROTJ. Darth Vader had a funeral and a FG.

I have the art book and there is no concept art of Ben Solo's death OR of Palpatine - and I vividly remember how they released the art book then immediately recalled it and reissued new versions. I'd love to have a peek at the original.

I did hear a rumour that Chris Terrio said that he 'didn't believe in hope or redemption' and that 'the only characters he saw as important were Rey and Luke'.... but that could just have been a rumour. Whatever, TROS is a mess of changed plot lines, bad dialogue and at times, bad acting. Which is rather a sad way to end a nine film saga.
The Skywalker family - and the paying audience - deserved better.

It seemed to work for the six part saga (in 2005). ;)

What's wrong with being Palpatine's cloned grand daughter? Is that worse than being the actual son or daughter of Vader, who helped kill all the force users at that time (mostly the kids) and the mother of his children?

TLJ seems like a natural progression from TFA. I have never understood that opinion. I also don't share the opinion that TROS was a reaction to TLJ.

TROS was a troubled production. One of the main actors died. They fired writers/directors and then didn't give JJ enough time. If he gets another year to make that film I'm sure it would have been a lot better. Disney should have waited, but they probably don't care. It made a bunch of money and that's all they care about.

It's more about how ridiculous and unbelievable this plot is. It's too forced and only implemented because people think there has to be a twist. SW was never about twists. It's a huge misconception by fans and apparently by the new creators.

Well, there ARE a couple of "minor" ones....

    "I am your father!!"

    "It's Leia...Leia is my sister!"

TESB is the reason why we have this trend and wish for twists. In the PT there weren't twists though. Lucas himself was never really a fan of twists.

The difference between Luke being Vader's son and Rey being a Palpatine is, the prior serves the plot. The second one is just for shock. And this is the problem of modern twists and subverting expectations.

So the fans think there should be plot twists because the makers since ESB onward have employed plot twists (Vader father, Leia Sister, Amidala not Amidala, Yoda is a fighter not a lover, Palpatine's the Sith lord) it's difficult to tell exactly who are the arbiters of what Star Wars is and isn't. Not that I am suggesting that twists are inherently good either on their own or for Star Wars outright. If the story is no good or not compelling enough a twist isn't likely to save it.

As soon as Rey was introduced with ambiguity surrounding her parentage, speculation of how that was going to play out (or twist) was always going to be a massive factor. I don't agree with folk who say that the filmmakers should have told the audience that this question did not matter at all and that Kylo Ren's "revelation" in TLJ was effectively saying "there's no plot twist here". Rey being "nobody" and "from nothing" is a plot twist in itself. Considering how important bloodline has been to tying the trilogies together. Especially because Johnsons has spelled out what his intention was with that scene.

I'm pretty sure that the poster I replied to wasn't referring to plot twists being detrimental to the trilogy or the saga. I'm pretty sure they were referring to Rey's Palpatinian heritage in its own right being bad,

But even after all that. When the "twist" is finally revealed to Rey. She's the one who ultimately says it doesn't matter. Yes it's a big twist. A heavy revelation. But she wasn't swayed by Kylo's earlier claim and she's not going to be put off by this one.

The thing is, this whole revelation was already made in TLJ. There was no need to do it again in TROS.

Bloodline is important for SW, that's true. But we already had this topic covered by Kylo Ren. Rey Nobody was the logical and most interesting conclusion. If you look at polls throughout the web, you can even see that most people wanted Rey to be a "Nobody" (followed by Rey Skywalker). Probably because of the popularity of Reylo.
