I can't stand that idiot either. The prequels are sheer masterpieces when compared to the sequel trilogy. I'd actually rather watch the ewok movies than episodes VII, VIII & IX ever again. The force awakens is intense?! Where the hell do people get that from. It's a lazy-ass rip-off.

Um no. The great movies stands the test of time like Rogue One & gets better over time while others after multiple viewings falls flat as a pancake like the force awakens. One question, name me one thing that makes rey so unique & likable?

Gareth Edwards. Wow. He really did his thing with RO. It's the best movie IMO since empire and the sequel trilogy combined.

The "upside down" Death Star; perspective of course.
    The perfect balance of nostalgia.
The space battle shots. The best space battle ever in a star wars movie.
Vader's castle. I mean really. Vader in the bacta tank? Ummm yea.
    Vader hallway scene.
The realism and grittiness of the overall tone.
Last but not least. Everyone dies at the end. Love it. Yes they had to I get it.

I'm hoping Andor brings us much of the same.

I agree. As I have stated before, R1 is the only Disney movie I allow into my head canon. And at least according to rumors, even GL probably likes it.

I was initially a little skeptical at the revelation that the flaw in the Death Star was intentional, but this turned out to be an absolutely brilliant idea, and they managed to make it fit with everything we already knew.

Yes. A bit of a paradox as far as writing is concerned. I mean, thinking about it, they had to. Like I said before, when the opportunity arises for a writer to evolve on the pre-existing age old plot............... .
    (epic fail)

The novelization of R1 covers the thermal exhaust port brilliantly. Provides complete context of how Galen tricked everyone and got the exhaust port in the plans.

I never thought the exhaust port was something that needed to be explained. So the Death Star has an exhaust port? So does my car, but without it, the engine would stall. The fact they added ray shields, that could only be penetrated by proton torpedoes on a snub fighter that could easily be taken out by turbo lasers or tie fighters, isn't exactly a flaw. I guess galen erso knew a jedi would be flying? I like the movie, but I don't think it was totally necessary.

Rogue One is the best of the Disney Star Wars films in my book. The sequel trilogy is ok, plagued with flaws, but Rogue One has a special place in my heart. When I have the time, I watch R1, then ANH my favorite Star Wars film.

The flaw in the Death Star is not the presence of an exhaust port or the presence of shields. The flaw is that firing on this port causes a chain reaction that destroys the entire station.

Although the flaw didn't need an explanation, R1 changed the flaw from a foolish oversight to a brave act of civil disobedience - which is pretty cool, if you ask me.

But why put ray shields up, if it was a disguised flaw, why not just have it unshielded, would have been even easier. It was a nearly impossible task that required luke to use the force, to accomplish . If i were to sabotage something id make it a little more simplistic.
I would rig up the firing system to self destruct the first time it was fired.
To me he mearly pointed out a weakpoint. Everything has a weakpoint.

Galen Erso is basically the Star Wars equivalent to Werner Von Braun. A spineless collaborator who was deemed a hero because he ended up on the right side of history. Really he could have sabotaged the project from the beginning, but he was living the good life on Courescant. He left, was found and completed the Death Star. Years later, he felt guilty and tried to make up for it to his daughter by telling her about a "trap" he designed, that was incredibly difficult to spring. He didn't even send the Death Star plans, which was in itself a miracle to obtain from scarif. He did the absolute least amount of effort possible to stop the death star. He has the death of millions of people on his hands including his own daughter.

Also he's a terrible father. He left his daughter in the hands of a crazed extreamist, where she became a child soldier for a terrorist organization. She would have been much better off in the hands of the Empire. At least give her to someone responsible, like a family member or a farmer in the outer rim.

Rogue one shows the hypocrisy of the Rebel Alliance and what would become the New Republic.
During the Alliance Council scene, the different rebel groups bickered and argued about going on a mission that would ultimately save the Galaxy, and ended up deciding to do absolutely nothing, in the same way the Republic could never act on anything. What ended up happening was a Rogue group rebelled againt the decision of the Alliance council, and attacked Scarif. That's not how Democracy or a Republic works. Same with the Resistance, they were a fringe group who created a paramilitary force against the will of the Republic to fight the First Order. The Rebels care nothing of Democracy or the Republic. If the Republic decides not to do something they want, they go rogue and do it anyway. Technically the Empire was a Republic up until 0BBY. Senators like Princess Leia tried to openly overthrow the government they work for. That's not Democracy. Imagine if a Senator actively tried to blow up the Whitehouse, that would be treasonous.

Im not that familiar with Mandalorians other than they're war mongering religious zealots who kidnap children to train them as soldiers. Much like the First Order and the Jedi.

But i could go on all day how the Rebels are unlawful combatants who constantly commit war crimes. Technically they have no rights under the laws of war.

In Rogue One specifically, the Rebels use the tactic of impersonating an enemy soldier, to engage an operation. That his highly illegal. Not to mention they have no consistent uniform or markings, they often are dressed as civilians, while in combat.
Another case of using child soldiers is Cassian Andor, he had become a Rebel at just 6 years old. Then they wonder why the Empire uses extreme measures to fight them. Rebels fight dirty AF!

Also kidnapping Bodhi Rook and interrogating him using boar gullet that had short and long term effects on him psychologically. That's literally torture. The attempted assassination of Galen Erso, an unarmed non combatant. The Rebels didn't follow any rules of engagement, they're just as guilty if not worse than the Empire. Like I said earlier they care nothing of Democracy, they're Anarchists if anything.

[OFF TOPIC]I am going totally off topic, I'm sorry, be careful.

Your speech haunts me. Just change a few words... Rogue One=our era on Erath, Alliance Council=COP 26, rebels groups=countries and nations, galaxy f.f.a=our Earth....
"the different rebel groups bickered and argued about going on a mission that would ultimately save the Galaxy, and ended up deciding to do absolutely nothing".

The question is : will there be a rogue group, one day, who will rise for us...[/OFF TOPIC]

That's why it's important to not elect spineless politicians who wait until it's too late to do anything. People think mon mothma was great, but she allowed the empire to rise. She was part of the problem. The do nothing senate created the Empire. Mon mothma wanted to fight the empire politically, but at that point it was about 20 years too late.

I see your point. Maybe I was a little too easy on Galen. He does still have blood on his hands, although to some extent his work was involuntary.

But I still think it's really cool that the flaw resulted from difficult decisions and sacrifices, rather than just being a mistake.

I get it. They had to retcon into the existing story. I like Galen Erso and I like Rogue one, particularly because it shows how flawed the Rebels were. The OT was like Rebel propaganda, they were perfect I'm looking forward to Andor the most really. He was kind of a scetchy character. He had his reasons for doing what he did. Seeing he was in the rebellion since 6yo, makes sense he was a little extreame.

Star wars marathon has been on TNT all weekend I probably watched R1 three times, so it's fun to watch it as a conscientious observer.

If the flaw had been that obvious, the Empire would have found it and fixed it (and probably arrested Galen). It had to be hidden for it to work.

I think it is unlikely that Galen had anything to do with the ray shields. He didn’t design the Death Star… he just added an extra “feature.” Ray shields were probably already in the blueprints, and they might have added them after Galen’s work was done.
