So, it was announced a few days ago that Amandla Stenberg will be taking the lead role in Acolyte. What do you all think she is playing?
Personally, I believe her character (rumored to be named Aura, at least in “code,”) will be a Sith, perhaps the anti-villian protagonist of the show. I am super excited, not just because this Disney+ show is finally coming together, but because I admired her character and acting abilities as Rue in Hunger Games.

I believe (hope) she'll be a Dathomir Nightsister. (If you want to, I can add "Nightsister" to the pol? :) )

Hmm... if it's a lead role, the obvious answer here would be The Acolyte (in the same vein as "The Mandalorian", though I appreciate the theories that also refers to Grogu too).

But it'd be interesting to see the titular acolyte's story from a different perspective.

Still, for now, I'd have to guess she's the acolyte the title refers to.

Most of us seem to believe Stenberg is the acolyte in the show’s title. If we can confirm the time period of this series, perhaps we can decipher who her master is (because always in two, there are, a master an an apprentice.) Wouldn’t it be interesting if Stenberg grew up to be the master of Darth Plagueis? That would continue the lineage of Sith lords farther back than what is currently known; as far as I can see from canon (not including Legends,) we don’t have too many Sith names on record. A name is dropped here and there, but there is a big mystery prior to Darth Plagueis. I also read somewhere that this show takes place during the final days of the High Republic. This is puzzling, because during this period in SW history, the Plagueis/Sidious duo was alive and well, operating in secrecy. Did Plagueis have two apprentices, Sidious and Stenberg’s character? I think we will learn much more once the exact period is told, whenever that will be.

Stenberg was rumored to having been cast for the lead role, so, if that happens to be true, she'll definitely be "the acolyte". However, at this point, we don't know what "the acolyte" is, or what she is supposed to be the acolyte of/to.

Everyone seems to assume that "the acolyte" will be a Sith apprentice, but this has not been said or hinted at, yet. Darths Plagueis and/or Tenebrous might be at the heart of this story, but again, we don't know.

The show's description as "a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era" does not guarantee any Sithiness. The "shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers" could, for instance, just as well apply to Talzin, whose later magickal prowess is impressive enough to eventually attract Darth Sidious' attention. Other possibilities abound, too.

Do any of the novels specifically say what you call the Sith version of a padowan? That’s what I am thinking an acolyte it. But you’re right, it can refer to anything.

Yes. Darth Bane's 1st novel mentions Sith Acolytes, as he is one of many. Also I believe Galen Marek was called a Sith Acolyte while under Vader but it's been a longtime since I played that game.
