Since we still have many months to go before the premeire of Season 3 of The Mandalorian, I thought it might be fun to speculate on what we'll see. For the record, I don't see this as a breaking news and information thread -- although if you've heard a production rumor you'd like to speculate about, that's fair game in my book so I've attached a SPOILER warning just in case.* Consider this is 'a safe place' for sharing your thoughts -- hopes/fears/concerns -- about what we'll see.
*Mod Edit: this is no longer an open "spoiler" thread, if you are posting a known production leak or similar the spoiler tags must be utilized in your post. Thank you!

To (hopefully) kick off a discussion here, I'll mention one of the likely scenarios for the start of the season: Din seeking out the 'living waters' beneath of mines of Mandalore -- which, we're told, have all been destroyed. Are there any Mandalorian experts here who have any clue what this will be about?

Along those same lines, what do you expect from a visit to Mandalore? There had been some speculation at one time that Mandalore had become a barren. uninhabitable planet -- but that is sounding more and more unlikely. And I will admit, the idea of visiting 'the ruins' of Mandalore following the destruction depicted in the Night of a Thousand Tears flashback sounds pretty exciting. Again, are there any fan experts on Mandalorian culture who have ideas on what we might see?

As I said before, all types of speculation are welcome. Anyone who enjoys The Mandalorian is encouraged to come on in and belly up to the bar. The first round of Spotchas are on me. :)

Why do we have to wait so long for Season 3?

There will probably be a betrayal. Or a betrayal that the betrayer cannot go through with.

    Hmmmmm....a betrayal?

The only scenario where I could see that come into play would be Bo-katan Kryze back-stabbing Din in an attempt to win back the dark saber.

There are other candidates who might reasonably have the same objective.

We find out that the Armourer is actually Satine Kryze, because everyone now survives being impaled by lightsabers. She and Bo fight for the right to rule the Mandalorians, but tragically kill each other. Korkie Kryze then reveals himself and his heritage as the son of Satine and Obi-Wan and takes the mantle of the Mand'alor with Din as faithful friend.
Also someone will say "this is the way".

Oh, I have a bad feeling about this.

    Is this an official trailer.

if so, I'm pleased to introduce an asteroids chasing scene, Bo Katan singing under the rain, Sabine Wren perhaps, the ruins of Mandalore, tons of Salacious Crumbs, Greef Karga becoming someone important with a protocol droid, Peli Motto always on the run and Babu Frik not yet in Kijimi (or perhaps already there).

So we have some details regarding Moff Gideon wearing armor that's been described as Mandolorian-ish... Wondering if since S3 is looking to be very Mandalore heavy, could it be that Gideon has repurposed the armor of a defeated Mandolorian as some sort of a taunt? It would fit his character and also serve useful if fighting against a similarly armored Din. It's also noted that his helmet will be something of a Mando/Maul combination with horns similar to Maul on a shiny black Boba Fett style helmet, and he will also have a jetpack.

The Seasons 1 and 2 were incredible fun! The inclusion of Din and Grogu in Boba Fett was suprising and made me happy in a way, as S3 was far away in that moment and even postponed till next year. That made me not caring about Boba Fett even more.

    But here we are!
I don't think that Bo Katan will be this crazy GOT crazy queen the trailers are making us to believe.
Sure, there was the issue with dark saber at the end of Season 2, but through BOBF, Din has clearly walked away.
We have no idea on what terms, but my prediction is that we will see all Mandalorians to join forces against the Imperial Remnant and take over the Mandalore, with Bo growing up beyond the dark saber. One of the biggest contrasts between Din and Bo was Din's rudiculous cult doctrine in contrast to the actual laidback Mandalorians. This got played back a bit with the whole dark saber and Din playing it back: "I have my weird helmet issue, but you can take this useless saber, I don't care at all."

On that, I can set my two hopes right away:
    - I hope that they don't pull another Game Of Thrones/Shakespearian classic, Children Of The Watch with Bo's Classics fight together, but Din and Bo will have to fight to the death afterwards, because of the stupid saber. I'd like them all to evolve over their stupid dogmas, helmets, darksaber and everything.
Bo already grew up from being a terrorist to fight for the good.
    - I love Grogu! But with rumored Season 4, I hope we get some development with him, maybe some time jump, so he can talk or it develops the concept of Din and Grogu a little.
Yes, he is cute and adorable, played as a fun gag with him eating stuff, but unless they resolve the issue with Moff Gideon and go live happily ever after somewhere in the galaxy, I would like them to abandon this Saturday cartoon format of a wandering warrior and his cute neverchanging sidekick.
So unless there is a conclusion in short space of time of them going on some upcoming open ended adventure, give them some conclusion.

I really hope we will get to know more about Gideon's agenda. Is he part of something bigger or is he just a leftover Imperial turned warlord using set of limited resources?
Is his research with Dr. Pershing about him obtaining the power to control the force?
If the rumors are true, I have already liked Gideon's appearance of being basically a Darth Vader and his own master, with having the cloak but being helmetless... seeing another twisted Mandalorian design, like Maul's faction was, might be interesting.
But so far, helmets were always functional in Star Wars, even for Ben Solo who masked his identity at first, second to being Darth Vader wannabe.
If the rumors and bits from interviews with Giancarlo are true, I wonder what drives him to become or mimic Mandalorians.

So far, my prediction is that Season 3 will deal heavily with Mandalore being taken back by Mandalorians and the fight against Gideon's remnant and Season 4 will be a conclusion to Grogu and Din.
Second option is that they will pull off MCU with the Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew series to some extent and Gideon will be linked to Grand Admiral Thrawn and even bigger Imperial Remnant than we have saw. Thrawn will be the final baddie and if Ezra is not dead or not going crazy/dark side C'Baoth, they will join forces. I wonder how the Skeleton Crew series will feature in these stories - if only happening at the same era or crossovering into Ahsoka and Mandalorian.

I don't believe that Gideon or possibly Thrawn are linked to First Order/Final Order in any way, as those Imperials left after Jakku, leaving the galaxy outside of Unkwnon Regions behind and rebuilding.
My bets are on them to really be just what's left of the Empire forces in the post Endor galaxy.

I am not fan of fan service and big cameos, even tho I liked Fett, Luke and mostly, Bo Katan in Mando, but it would be fan to have Iden Version in it, even tho she is probably really low on the scale of considered characters. But would be cool to see some easter egg or the Marauder parked somewhere.

    Big question: Cara Dune?
Is she gonna be dead, or just "off on adventures"? Will they deal with it at all?

She came from somewhere, went through stuff, and landed on her feet. Her arc is over. They'll never thouch her again and there's no need to drag this up again.

    Totally agree. There's zero reason
With a species that can live to be a 1000 years old, my fear is the exact opposite -- that they rush the child's development.

When you have a character as cute and adorable -- and as universally loved -- as Grogu, the worst thing would be to rush things and screw it all up. "Baby Yoda" is (IMO) FAR from being a boring, one-trick pony at this point. Let's not rush 'growing up' on a child who can legitimately stay one for a very long time. You can trust that Favreau and Filoni have a grand character arc in mind. So I suggest we all sit back and savor Grogu's baby years as long as possible. Just like adorable real babies, it won't last forever.

There's nothing to deal with. She was just muscle. They threw in just enough back story to give her motivation to be an ally of Din's at time. But that's as deep as the character went.
    --- Double Post Merged, Dec 11, 2022, Original Post Date: Dec 11, 2022 ---
Same here. Grogu survived order 66, over 25 years prior to this, and they reckon he's around fifty years old. And yet he's basically a toddler. Din, Bo, Karga, even Rey, Finn et al will be dead of old age before he gets past adolescence or reach maturity.
    --- Double Post Merged, Dec 11, 2022 ---
Actually it will. Effectively. Unless he appears in a film or show set a hundred years after Mandolorian.

Trust me, a big part of the future of SW -- post The Mandalorian -- will involve Grogu Djarin. But you can rest assured that Jon Favreau will be VEEEERY protective of his character the same way Dave Filoni is VEEEEERY protective of Ahsoka Tano.

Yesterday a post came up on my Twitter feed that caused me pause.

The tweet featured a photograph of a Darth Maul action figure boxed in Mando-themed packaging. The caption said "oops, too early." I realize in this day and age, it could have been a photo shop job. Later, I tried to find it again to post here and couldn't so I decided to 'leave it be.' However, after thinking about it, I decided to mention it here under the 'take this for what it's worth' category. Did anybody else see it?

It sounded ridiculous to me at first until I got to thinking of Season 3's Mandalore-centric theme and the possibility we might see a Bo Katon flashback.
