With the Ahsoka series coming up, I started thinking about how characters can be different depending on the medium; mainly animation vs live action. For example, TCW Obi-wan feels a bit more "over the top" or exaggerated than PT or OT Obi-wan. Even Ahsoka feels a tad bit different between Rebels and The Mandalorian; though it's still feels like Ahsoka, just a but more experienced and weathered. However, I feel like TCW Anakin is a completely different character from movie Anakin, and that he was given an entirely different characterization. In the movies, he's very much insecure, brash, and immature; almost naive. In TCW, he comes across as much more secure, capable, mature, and even wise in some cases; he's also not as naive. Am I the only one who feels this way? I've always felt a huge disconnect between movie Anakin & TCW Anakin and have never really been able to see them as the same character.

yes, because they were trying to make him more of a like-able character, which they succeeded in, until you remember that he turns into ROTS anakin

I also agree that film Anakin and TCW Anakin are completely different. Obviously by design. I think Filoni and crew wanted to present a version of Anakin that was much more like the heroic Jedi we heard about in the originals, instead of the very flawed Jedi we actually see in the Prequel movies.

Also the voice of Anakin in TCW does not match up well with Hayden at all. Regardless, I enjoy TCW as much as anyone else. It's a great show.

I think the Clone Wars micro series does a much more accurate characterization of the Anakin we see in the Prequels.

Yeah, the difference in voice doesn't help lol. I'm like you though, I still love TCW, I just can't see TCW Anakin as the same character from AotC or RotS. I really need to rewatch the micro-series, it's been a few years since I last watched it.

No i also feel this way and even picked up on it back in 2008 when TCW first came out.

To me Anakin was character assassinated in TCW along with giving him a different voice they completely changed his personality too.

I personally think some of the changes in TCW were made to pander to prequel haters. Tartakovsky did a way better job with Anakin's character and not only does Mat Lucas do a great Hayden impression but he also does a great job capturing the character in the story that George wanted to tell and i can believe that movie Anakin and 2003 Clone Wars Anakin are the same person but not TCW Anakin.

Anakin may come back as a forceghost, too. It all depends on when the Ahsoka serie is located in the timeline.

I recently finished watching TCW. To be frank, I was a bit put off by Anakin's portrayal in that series. It seemed rather ham-fisted to me. I thought the series had tried to transform him into some kind of uber aggressive Han Solo, but without the roguish wit. It seemed as if it was trying too hard to justify Anakin's eventual embrace of evil. Or . . . it was trying too hard to foreshadow his future. I'm not saying that TCW made Anakin a one-dimensional character. But it came dangerously close to accomplishing that . . . to the point that Lucas' more complex portrayal was in danger of being lost.

Anakin as insecure and immature was more obvious in "Attack of the Clones". Which made sense to me, considering he was 19 years old at the time. Even in "Revenge of the Sith", I could tell that he had somewhat matured over the past three years. Mind you, I said "somewhat", because at 22 years old, I doubt that Anakin or any other person would have matured so fast. As for "The Clone Wars" Anakin, I didn't like him very much. I found the series' portrayal of him rather ham-fisted at times. In fact, he seemed more like an attempt to shape his character into a Force sensitive Han Solo than Anakin Skywalker. I can recall one episode from late Season One in which Anakin, who was on leave, tried to force or coerce Padme into abandoning her work so that they could enjoy some private time. He was behaving like Han or Ben Solo would toward women and it just felt wrong to me. The portrayal of Anakin in "The Clone Wars" is one of my problems with the series.

They aren't the same character and Matt Lanter sucks as Anakin. You aren't the only one who thinks this way i completely agree.

When all is said and done, I think the PTs and TCW's version of the character were both too extreme in opposite directions. I suspect that TCW was a deliberate attempt to retcon Anakin by 'softening him up,' but IMHO, they pushed it to the point of creating two separate versions of the same character. Personally, I think a healthy blending of the two would have been perfect.

I don't need a combination of movie Anakin and TCW Anakin. I simply prefer the movie Anakin, portrayed by Jake LLoyd and Hayden Christensen.

That's why these cartoons are not canon. They just tell us they are because it fires up a certain chunk of the fanbase when they aren't acknowledged as canon. They're not the same characters. We all know Vader never had an apprentice. Now he's got a different personality too? It just doesn't work, even if the cartoon did a better job at portraying him. Filoni was trying to "correct" the prequels in that sense.
