I think what you're really getting at is that if the saga for some reason remained incomplete with The Last Jedi becoming the last episode by default, we might have done a lot worse.

But couldn’t that same rationale be applied to, well, every Star Wars movie though? I mean, you could treat ESB as ‘the end’ if you were really so inclined. I’m not sure why you’d want to. But you certainly could. Just use your imagination, right?

Flash Gordon, despite being known for ending each chapter with a cliffhanger, has actual resolutions to its storylines. They don’t just end ambiguously. Flash wins.
I think that’s an interesting and unique perspective. For me, TLJ is the epidemy of a middle act. It’s all advancement of what came before, but without any actual resolution to the presented narrative arcs. It takes everyone to their lowest possible state, but promises the glimmer of resurgence toward triumph. Sure, you could say “I’ve seen this story before. I think I see where it’s headed”, but that’s such a cynical disservice to the underline messaging of the story.

It’s not about a theoretical victory of good over evil, but the actual victory attained through cooperation, understanding and undaunted courage. Our heroes don’t maybe defeat the villains. They definitely do. And how they do it is quintessential to the makeup of the story.

I believe in respecting everybody’s point of view and interpretation. There’s no wrong way to appreciate a story. If that’s what works best for you, then I think that’s great. I just don’t personally grasp the reasoning behind it. You could stop every story two thirds of the way through and go with your own assumptions on how it would conclude or not.

    Hehehe! :)

Ah, BUT WAIT!!! My Star Wars crystal ball tells me that somewhere down the road, fans will learn that -- low and behold -- Luke Skywalker (unbeknownst to him) had a love child that happened one dark and rainy night when he was consoling a grief-striken woman he'd rescued by the name of...(cue trumpet fanfare)....Mara Jade.

Remember someday that you heard it here first. :) :) :) ;)

    Friendly reminder.
This is funny, but I don't think they'll ever go down this road. Kennedy recently stated that was one reason Obi-Wan couldn't really be involved either. That's not to say Jedi's will never be married or have relationships, but it'll probably have to happen in a different era or maybe even with Rey's new order.

:oops:Did you know that RJ hated our SNOKE theories? He even posted a sticky just to say that they sucked.

:eek:Then, RJ got ultra butthurt when fans said the same about his creative choices and/ or his movie.

I think that part of the reason RJ killed off Snoke, is that post TFA a lot of people were criticising the character as being a 'poor man's' Palpatine.

I doubt it. I'm pretty sure Snoke was dead before TFA was released.

Yeah Snoke was so important to Abrams that when he made TROS he relegated him to a clone sock puppet that had basically been acting for/as Palpatine by proxy. Abrams didn't need to do that. He could have had Palpatine congratulate Kylo Ren and tell him how grateful he is fto him or taking care of this most dangerous rival. Abrams could have explained how significant killing someone like Snoke was and why. But instead Abrams essentially rubber stamped RJ's take on how important Snoke truly was. His role was to be Kylo's Plagueis/Sidious. Something that gets betrayed/sacrificed in order for Ren to be who he is supposed to be.

Snoke was just a hologram in TFA. Basically just an excuse to make things to happen. He barked orders and spouted some exposition. The idea that he deserved to be preserved as a main character just seems absurd if you go back and watch TFA, He might as well just be some flashing lights and a voice like in some lazy ST: TOS or TNG episode.

TFW you don't get the joke.
He did? Seems like he's taken the feedback pretty well to me. Some fans on the other hand...
It's kind of hilarious that some fans were upset that Snoke died. They really wanted the same story again. That is what puzzles me about some of the TLJ criticism for being different. It really isn't that different. It's got nostalgia through it all. It's the Star Wars film most like Empire Strikes Back. It's a middle chapter film that challenges the main characters.

If Snoke was always a nothing burger and his fate in XIII predetermined, why not instead have Kylo in TFA bow to a black cloudy shadow thing that featured a stream of different sinister voices spliced together -- with one of the more prominant ones belonging to Palpatine. Create a sense of mystery as well as fan speculation that Palpatine has returned.

The notion that this story was always plotted out to be Snoke followed by Palpatine is hard to swallow.
