Back in the early 90's, my buddy was a bouncer at The Owl & Thistle.... every now and then, one of the Area-206 bands would have an unannounced jam.

Best one was akshually, Candlebox.... and there's a reason Swirled Ham was put on a t-shirt but I digress.

Greatest Metal Album from start to finish?

I'm not a fan of metal but there's one band that I really like id: Judas Priest.

Yesterday I saw them live here in Luxembourg an it was great. 20220622_210948.jpg 20220622_211506.jpg 20220622_222831.jpg 20220622_221130.jpg 20220622_223428.jpg 20220622_224319.jpg

Black Sabbath, the fathers of all true Heavy Metal. My favorite song, 'Symptom of the Universe', from their 'Sabotage' album, 1975.
For people looking for something different than Ozzy, I recommend checking out the 'Cross Purposes' album with Tony Martin from 1994. That is an album with serious texture and lyrical work, and Tony Martin really delivers. They also contributed a song, 'Mob Rules', to the original Heavy Metal: the Motion Picture soundtrack in 1981. Blue Oyster Cult is my close second and they were on that soundtrack, too, with 'Veteran of the Psychic Wars', which also appears on BOC's album 'Fire of Unknown Origin' (1982).

Judas Priest, Heavy Metal generation 1.5 . Always impressive, even on the albums that went over people's heads, such as "Point of Entry', 1981. I had that one on 8-track. It's kind of a lost Judas Priest album but absolutely magnificent. It's got some of the punchiest rhythm of any Priest album and it has one of the greatest ballads in true Heavy Metal, 'Desert Plains', which is epic, even for Judas Priest. Imagine being on a motocycle and thundering down a desert highway in the night with the moon out. That's this song. Epic.

Priest delivers on love songs that make the most of Heavy Metal as a vehicle. You can put together all kinds of comps for people, especially for women, from Judas Priest, who can deliver on various themes and styles at least as well as, say, the Scorpions, and Rob Halford is better.

I've been on a Judas Priest kick these last several days. I've always had a reasonably complete collection and have always had their traditional classics on hand, but I've recently caught up on a few titles that have come out since Rob Halford returned to Judas Priest after his solo career, because I never did collect all of those. Well, now, except for their most recent recent album (Firepower), I have. I've been listening mainly to their only concept album, Nostradamus, and Angel of Retribution, which are excellent, and to a personal favorite of mine that I did pick up back in 2016: Redeemer of Souls, an album whose deluxe edition is more than worthwhile. Really, you're missing out if you settle with the single-disc version. Redeemer of Souls in particular is a really rich album with great tunes and the most exceptional of those are long part of my canon of personal classics.

Just home from an Iron Maiden show. I've never been more than a very cassual fan, and I hardly know any songs (even though I was obsessed with IM posters when I was a kid), but damn, the old boys can rock!

I think I'm ever so slightly infatuated with Janick Gers  Very charming old man! :D
