Sounds great! I'm still wondering what the gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens will be filled with.
    Books? Comics? Video Games?

Brilliant move! Glad to see that Rebels has a planned ending. Great shows do like Avatar: The Last Airbender/Legend of Korra. This also allows more creative freedom for other things set during the dark times. So is the plan to have a new animated series between every Episode film?

I’m betting they don’t tackle the time between VI and VII with any substantial stories until the new trilogy is completed. Tell the new story and then fill in the gaps. If you start telling those stories before the new era is completely fleshed out, it could write them into a corner or force them to start abandoning parts of the canon again.

I imagine that Disney will eventually start having multiple Star Wars cartoons air side-by-side, like what they've been doing with their Marvel properties (Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, and The Avengers). Nonetheless, I wouldn't see that happening for a while.

I'd prefer it if the animated series were used as bridges between trilogies.

With Rebels, I'd like to see more Prequel Trilogy elements mixed in with Original Trilogy elements. I think it would be interesting to explore how previously Independent and Separatist systems fare under the newly established Empire. Ultimately for me, I think Rebels would be more interesting if it represented a fusion of PT and OT elements.

In the same way, I would hope that any subsequent animated series would take place between Episode VI and Episode VII, and serve as a bridge between the OT and the ST.

If that turns out to be the case, I would like to see them finish TCW properly.

You know, seeing how Rebels will probably have a maximum of three seasons, it will have to do a really good job in bridging the gap between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. I see Rebels tackling the Rebel Alliance formed from the Lothal Rebels, Onderon Rebels, etc., in Season 2, Season 3 will close out by bringing more space battles akin to the Original Trilogy, with some Prequel and EU references, and bring in the best pilots of the galaxy like Wedge Antilles, Jek Porkins, Red Squadron and Gold Squadron fighters, and BIGGS DARKLIGHTER WITH THE DARKLIGHTER SPIN! And the season ends with the hiring of the bounty hunters rumored to be the first spinoff. I won't even discuss Ezra's and Kanan's fates, I'll just speculate on other posts LOL. As for Alliance and the other trademarked names, I think only Alliance will be post-Return of the Jedi TV Show, and the others are games and stuff. Alliance better show signs of the darkness still around, Empire business, etc. I think it will be a very experimental but fun show if it ever comes to fruition like the Star Wars: Underworld live action series that also needs to happen.

I am highly dissatisfied with this decision. I prefer a show between 6 & 7.

Its called fan servicing. They're making nice safe 'new' OT era stuff they know fans will watch. A popular show will attract lots of sponsors and commericals... ka-ching.;)

Have a feeling we'll see this at Celebration this year perhaps?

At 35:00, he [John Campea] starts talking about Celebration and teases knowledge of an upcoming animated/live-action series?
