She said I MIGHT be the only one who knows what you really are. I think it is supposes to be a sentimental moment between them. Apparently Han and Q'ira grew up together. Then went their seperate ways.

 

I think that his response "and what's that?" is a pretty strong indication that it's his character....

Now the question is, what is it that she knows? That first shot of them tearing down the streets in a speeder is probably a throwback to their early days on Corellia. So was she an uptown girl slumming it with a dashing bad boy? Did he break her heart, and she knows he's overly irresponsible? Or has he been playing the bad boy a lot at this point in the film, trying to act like a tough criminal, and she knows that he's a good person? Or is he overly cocky, and she's the one who knows that he's just making this up as he goes and getting lucky?

Alternatively, I wouldn't call Han Solo a Jedi or a Padawan, but he is lucky, and his destiny intertwines with that of important people. My theory is that Qui'ra is a runaway Jedi Youngling, that she, being without the guidance of her masters, ran around with Han Solo as a kid, and she knows that A. He's a good person and B. He has an important role to play in the Destiny of the Galaxy, that his path will intertwine with Chosen Ones, etc. And that Han, while not necessarily Force Sensitive, has the Force looking after him. He just calls it luck.

 

The question is do you still want a SOLO film or do you still don't want it LOL

 

She's going to be the girl who truly understands Han.

I hope not, because that would diminish Leia's character so much.

 

Because the only way to define a female character is by the man she's with.

 

Especially at this point in canon- if Leia is defined by her relationship to Han, then she failed.

I'd say that's not the case. To me, she's royalty.

Maybe Han is still an imperial sent to infiltrate some underworld group and Qi'ra knows his true identity? His defection from the Empire might happen later in the movie.

 

She knows he shot first. He always shoots first. In a cantina.....in the bedroom.......etc.

BOOM!!!! I JUST hit upon the 'Disney' angle here!!

They will use this vehicle to emasculate Han Solo and make the skirt the one in charge! SHE will be the one in charge while Solo, the once-dashing scoundrel is just a wimpy go-along.

Gawd I'm hating Disney more and more. Not he company. The man. I'm starting to actually hate Walt Disney....Orlando, FL...Mice....All of it.

Alright, if you haven't read "Leia Princess of Alderaan", I totally recommend it.

Having said that, here are some spoilers.

Leia had a puppy love when she was 16. The guy was named Kier Domadi and guess what? He died.

After reading that book, would I dare to say having had that story diminishes Han's character so much?

NO.

Kier was the anti-Han Solo. He was Alderaanian like Leia (yeah yeah I do know Leia was born in Polis Massa but raised in Alderaan, so we can easily say she grew up as an Alderaanian). He had a lot of things in common with Leia. But them was not meant to be or to last. Life's like that: you might fall for someone in your past, things don't work out but that does not necessarily has to impact your future relationships or the character of the person you end up with, and Han and Leia were part of an interesting combination of love vs duty concept repeated several times along the romantic relationships in Star Wars: same like Kanan/Hera, Padme/Anakin or even just the potential of a romantic link that never was as Jyn/Cassian.

Qi'Ra might be just an old flame for Han, someone he lost or betrayed him.

But whatever happened, she's no Leia. We will see the details but the one he came back for in the middle of the Battle of Hoth was Leia and that won't be diminished at all no matter the way Qi'Ra is portrayed.

Okay, you seriously need to listen before jumping to conclusions. And I'm going to tag Pawek_13 as well since he seems interested in joining you.

Han Solo was always a smug who felt like he could get any girl he wanted. He treated women like trophies. Leia was the first one who stood up against him and told him what a self-arrogant prick he was, but she was also the first one who truly understood him - more than himself. That's why Han fell in love with Leia. But now we have this girl called Qi'Ra who says "I might be the only person, who knows.... what you really are."

My prediction and fear is that they'll make Qi'Ra into this love interest who was impressed by Han as a young girl, and now once they're a bit older she is the only one who really sees through him because "she is the only one who understands him". I mean, that would be so disappointing. Not only would it basically make Qi'Ra a copy of Leia, it would largely diminish Leia's character and her relation to Han. I think it would be such a disgrace to Leia, because it would seem as if Han likes Leia just because she would remind him of Qi'Ra.

I get it why they added Qi'Ra, but I really don't understand why they had to make her into a love interest who "truly understands Han". Why not just make her into a regular love interest whom gets heartbroken by Han? Show the audience what a heartbreaker Han is! Or even better, scratch the whole love interest part and just have her be her own character.

And of course the only way to define a female character is not by the man she's with. But you don't need to get so offended by the fact that Han and Leia had a love story in the OT. Because if you do, then that's just sad. Leia is an incredible character to me, not just because of how she's changing Han. She's incredible on so many levels, but I'm not allowed to talk about this particular side of her just because it offends you?

They can be their own characters who fall for Han because of different things?

I mean. Qi'ra and Leia seem to have two completely different upbringing, morality systems, occupations, etc. But you're just boining them both down to "Love Interest of Han" like people can't fall for others for different reasons, and saying that her falling for Han just makes her a clone of Leia even through they're completely different characters.

You are literally just speculating what her purpose in the story is without having seen it. Yeah, maybe she is a love interest, but maybe she's a childhood friend, or a rival with a love/hate relationship? You're making up a problem with a movie that isn't out yet.

I'm not offended. I'm just kind of sad that people think it's OK to boil down one of the most influential female leads in cinema to her relationship with another character. I mean, you say you love her character, but apparently she's not that great if she's not the "first woman to understand Han", and are perfectly willing to boil down other female characters who you haven't even seen yet by their relationship to Han, so forgive me if I don't buy it.

 

I asked in the other thread whether Qi'Ra believed in the One, the All. Basically I'm/was asking if Qi'Ra is Bria Tharen with a different name. I'm hoping that she is. I think when people hear Bria Tharen, they think OMG she's not Leia. She can't be with Han! Bad character. So they name her Qi'Ra instead.

And I wonder if the Solo movie is a mixture of AC Crispin trilogy and Scoundrels by Tim Zahn. (Heist).

Let us make her mother a household staff member working in the Emperor's summer palace on Jakku who always had a secret crush on Palps and had acces to his underwear? Or towels?? When he died she turned to drinks but kept a bottle of his precious fluids on ice for years....it's like...totally plausible!
