(Opinion) Rogue One is peak Star Wars and a brilliant prequel to the OT.

Beach death scene dialog was everything it needed to be. Scene was perfect.

I missed this earlier, but... I kinda agree.

I prefer to learn about the locations through dialogue and context. To be fair, I think Jedha and to a lesser extent Scarif did this pretty dang well.

Lah'mu and Kahfrene served their purpose well enough, even if I desperately want to see more of them.

To me, Eadu is the big offender. It's a necessary scene in the film, but it doesn't feel like a necessary location. I think it's a big reason why that section of the film feels simultaneously rushed and forgettable.

That being said, I think the ST made the opposite mistake. As far as I remember, Ajan Kloss is never significantly mentioned in the film, and I'm constantly having to look up the name of Not Endor. Same goes for Takodana (is it ever mentioned in film?) and D'qar.

    Greatest movie soundtrack ever recorded.

That vinyl ranks right up there with Orff's Carmina Burana and Tchaikovsky's Winter 13.

My mother often begged me to change records. "Or, turn it down!" -lol

    ***

And yes, R1 has a couple of GREAT pieces....

but the entire soundtrack is not a needle burner from start to finish.

I wish Giacchino could have taken a little more freedom with the soundtrack, gotten a little further from John Williams to do something original like The Mandalorian. His "Inside Out" soundtrack amazing.

Just announced in the UK, TROS sold fewer tickets than Rogue One did during its cinema run.

I cannot watch ANH any more without thinking about what it took to get those plans.....the sacrifices of Jyn, Cassian and the crew.....

R1 and ANH have merged for me into a "SW-Mega-Movie"

Yep, the same people that criticize how Rogue One is slow in the early going of it are the same clowns who whines about the lack of character development. Rey from the sequel trilogy is literally a nobody with absolutely no backstory whatsoever but people just loves her. The rise of skywalker doesn't count because that flick is utter insane garbage.

A: Many Bothans died to brings these plans. Where are the bothans??!!! I hate them, but they should have been represented in the movies by now.

B: As a wise man once said, I think that at this point, Ben Mendelssohn has played a villain as many times as Bruce Greenwood has played the president.

No, it's the LOCATION of the Second Death Star that the bothan spies acquired in/before RotJ (possibly along with information that the weapon systems are not yet operational) :) It's easy to get these concepts mixed up, but there are two spy efforts against Imperial Death Stars, one occuring prior to ANH (which was eventually detailed in R1) and one occuring prior to RotJ :)

I think the Bothan quote is from Return of the Jedi and refers to the second death star.

Thnak you for clearing that up. I still think that the bothans should get some screen time somewhere though.

I still love that opening shot when Krennic's ship is flying in looking for the Galen (as the sound of his ship gives me goosebump) cause it's a classic SW sound!

Glad RO was a good movie. I really enjoyed it. IMHO, clearly the best of the Disney Movies. Thank God for that, too. The ST was not great at all. Fun, yeah, but clearly from my vantage point, not great at all. Disney really needed to make a good stand alone movie, and it did that with RO. One of my favs to be sure.

I completely agree, I enjoy Solo too even though it's nowhere near as memorable.

Solo is a fun SW movie; especially so, if you don't squint too hard while watching.

At this point for me, Rogue One is more enjoyable than the entire ST and 66% of the PT.

I the Giacchino did a great job considering he was really limited with time considering the production issues and re-shoots delaying the score. It would have been nice if he had been able to put his own stamp on the film a bit more. But "He's come for us" and "your father would be proud" are great bits of music. It's like anything with Rogue One, considering what from all accounts was a bit of bodge job behind the scenes as they didn't have the script ready before they started filming, its an incredible achievement that they turned out a film this awesome!

But yeah Inside out score is sensational might be my favourite score of all time!
