(Poll) Did you like the weekly episode format?

I enjoy the anticipation of each episode, but you're right about that emphasizing the weaker episodes.

Some series operate well for binge watching, but I don't think the Mandalorian is one of them.

 

I just began watching it today. So I'm marathoning it right now. But if I had started like everyone else I'd been going crazy waiting weekly. It's so good.

 

I can binge a lot of great shows. Having to wait a week between episodes is good business for disney, and gives me a treat to look forward to weekly. It also keeps this forum hopping!

The holidays have traditionally been tough for me, so having a star wars movie really helped. Having a weekly episode of a star wars show- often in live action- will be a really nice way to get thru some stressful weeks!

I liked the weekly format. It created good anticipation for each next episode. While I do like to binge watch certain shows, I think for SW the weekly viewing works better

 

The weekly format is a much better fit for a television show. It allows for each episode to have its chance to shine and be discussed by viewers and fans. Individual episodes are far more easily remembered. The binge format is good for short bursts of excitement each year but that quickly dies down to nothing by the end of the week/month. Nothing is remembered except endings and occasional details by those who watched the episodes over and over again. I could easily tell you the basic plot of each episode of Mandalorian this season but if you asked me to do the same for the last season of Stranger Things, I wouldn't be able to remember anything other than the ending.

It's also much better for spoiler-culture, I'd argue. With the binge/full season drop format, you are basically forced into a mad rush to watch everything within the span of at least a day or two lest you be ridden with spoilers from all kinds of sources. It basically forces you to dedicate an absurd amount of time to watching this one show in order to be caught up with everyone else. Discussions about the show are inaccessible to you unless you're one of the few dedicated who watch it all on launch day. The weekly format is much easier to digest. It's just one 40-minute session a week and you're as caught up as anyone. Everyone's on the same playing field.

 

I like the excitement and anticipation of waiting for the Episode once a week. Friday is a perfect day to broadcast. We watch, and then storm the forum with ideas of what WE think is happening, mostly to find out later we were wrong, or off by a clue or two. So, please, weekly is perfect for me.

I don’t just love the weekly format. I love that they were all under 50 minutes. Nice and tight.

 

I liked it for this show, because there's a lot of mystery in The Mandalorian, yet it's well paced, and drawing it out is part of the fun.

I'd probably like it for the Cassian show too, but I think I'd prefer for the Kenobi series to air all at once. I'm expecting Kenobi will be a lot slower paced, and having it come out week to week may not be the best strategy in that case.

Also, I think it's obvious Ahmed's game show should be weekly, but I don't think that the case for all the reality content. For instance, I've fallen off the wagon for Goldbloom's show, despite the fact that I enjoyed it. It's just not something that I find myself checking into as religiously as something like The Mandalorian.

And it's not entirely like streaming services don't alternate on stuff like this. Netflix tends to release things all at once, like The Witcher or Orange is he New Black, but some shows like Chelsea Handler's tend to get more scheduled content.

Really, I think Disney is smart enough to figure out the optimal and most satisfying strategies to use, and I hope they decide to do that rather than applying a single catch all formula like they've done so far.

 

My preference is for weekly as well. Binging can be fun sometimes, but then it can also be over too quickly. The nice thing about weekly is that you're forced to wait. But then that can be (and often is) a good thing, because you spend the rest of the week in eager anticipation, and it's satisfying once the episode finally arrives. Plus, not getting the entire show all at once makes the overall experience last longer.

 

I actually really liked the weekly format for The Mandalorian. It was fun to discuss each episode every week (for both seasons). It didn’t feel like either season went by too fast. Also, each episode was at least thirty minutes long (usually at least forty minutes long) so I felt well fed each week.

I will say that the weekly format has not worked for the animated shows for me personally. I watched all of Rebels when it was airing, and despite some weird gaps in between the airdates of episodes, it felt much more manageable than watching The Clone Wars Season Seven or The Bad Batch on Disney+ week-to-week. The Clone Wars especially as that show follows an arc format so each week, you only get a chunk of the “full story”. Maybe The Mandalorian spoiled me with it having longer, more self-contained episodes each week.
