Garland was so close to being on my list but I think his current project would prevent it. Excellent pull though.

Aargh. I forgot Alex Garland on my list. I am looking forward to next year's Annihilation. Has post-production already finished?

    It's fun to make lists.
    And 10 it's a good choice.
    My atypical list could be:

    1-Jeff Nichols
    2-Denis Villeneuve
    3-Nicholas Winding Refn
    4-Robert Zemeckis
    5-Sam Mendes
    6-Edgar Wright
    7-Alejandro González Iñárritu
    8-Dan Trachtenberg
    9-Alex Garland
    10-Alejandro Amenábar

    Ok, it's too short.
    Special mention to:
    -Kelly Reichardt
    -John Maclean
    -Park Chan-Wook
    -Brad Bird

    And why not:
    -J.J. Abrams
    -Gareth Edwards

    And yes:
    -Spielberg, to lift his head

Jon Favreau has done good things. I have the feeling they might stay away from "it" directors, but you never know.

The Prisoner of Askaban is one of my favourite HP movies, he did great and Gravity of course is a masterpiece, he can handle it well.

Agree. Though not sure if Marvel will let them go for Ep IX.

    THIS.

(Sorry, going through a GoT hype. Though not sure if this could be done, anyway).

Favreau has shown the ability to play within a given world and churn out a great product for the House of Mouse.
    They love him right now.

Not a fan of Favreau.. Iron Man 1 is the only decent thing he ever did in my eyes.

..and I left one awesome director off my list (which i'll edit into it now)

Frank Darabont! He hasn't made one bad movie, and something tells me he can pull off the charm of Star Wars.

What about the guy directing Thor Ragnarok, Taika Waititi? His visual style in that movie reminds me of the prequel trilogy but that could just be the Jack Kirby influence of the characters and settings.

He literally tweeted he wouldn't because he "likes to finish his movies"

    It's quite humorous

I know he's hopefully working on "We're Wolves" soon, the sequel to "What We Do in the Shadows."

Also, WWDitS is a fantastic film- it's a really smart take on the mockumentary format with hilarious actors playing vampires in New Zealand.

It's a near perfect movie. It's laced with his dry wit. Sam Neill is brilliant in it. Rachel House is hysterical and Julian Dennison is fantastic. He's in Deadpool 2 now.

If you like that, check out Boy (2010) after. It's much slower and again very dry but it's great also

Im not sure i want him in the directors chair either, i mean he didn't write the star treks and they suffered from the same floors as everything he has worked on, fun and intriguing, but no pay off, makes very little sense and had zero emotional weight to them.

I get why he was brought into to do 7, but feel Lucas film should be aiming a bit higher with the 3rd part of this trilogy, and so far JJ has nothing in his back catalogue which makes me think he has the ability to deliver anything other then an exciting film that falls apart when it is even slightly scrutinised, with a disappointing ending.

JJ is a better producer than director. - I'm critical of his script work when it comes to plot devices. He should do an ok job, but what scares me is that Chris Terrio is also the other script writer :/

I would love to see Denis Villeneuve or Mel Gibson given an anthology film - Now those guys know how to direct.
