    Grievous CGI looks still amazing.

ILM did a freaking amazing job back then.

Say what you will about Jar Jar. It helped pave the way for a character like Snoke to work on screen.

You're forgetting that the first Jurassic Park film in 1993, due to ILM's ground breaking CGI dinosaurs, is what finally convinced George Lucas to actually start making his dream of a Star Wars prequel trilogy happen. Such a complex, colourful and varied galaxy could not have been possible without the photo-realistic CGI technology that ILM created. There is a reason why Episodes 1-3 were skipped and 4-6 were made first.

In comparison to the prequels, Episode's 4-6 were comparively easier to make without todays modern CGI techniques which did not exist in the mid 1970's. This is the reason why Episodes 4-6 were made first, they had few locations, which was cheap, a monochomatic technological Empire and simplistic sand, snow and forest worlds.

George Lucas, after overseeing ILM's work on Jurassic Park, now possessed the necessary tools from his ILM company to finally make the more elaborate and complex worlds and creatures of his"missing" three episodes, and started writing TPM on 1st November 1994.

But before beginning Episode 1, to test the new CGI, he remastered Episodes 4-6 , and re-released them as Special Editions from 1997 onwards.

The PT was groundbreaking on so many levels. Every new film was a showcase for the best CGI had to offer. Just like the OT was with practical effects, although there was a bit of CG there.

But I miss even more the designs. The new films are awful in terms of new aliens and ships.

Don't forget the "blood test" scene, where Qui Gon draws some blood from young Anakin, which is the first ever to be filmed in digital.

I always thought that scene was so visually interesting. The Imperial Star Destroyers were always so drab and empty seeming, with the crew all in their little troughs. This scene was vibrant, crowded, and oh so very neon green.

Say what you want about it, it was at least very unique.

Too bad they didn't showcase the best screenplays or performances ...

What are the best screenplays or performances? Do you think the OT has the best plot or actors? I don't. Harrison Ford is a damn charismatic actor, but there was nothing Oscar-worthy in his performance. Mark Hamill has never been brilliant. As has Carrie.

The thing is, it's all subjective. We're used to loving everything about the OT, but was its story brilliant? No! I think prequels have better villains and better plot overall. Actors in both trilogies are great. The dialogs are more vibrant and lively in the OT, sure. They are better, more natural, yes. But there was nothing criminal about any scenes in the prequels. For example, Anakin and his loathing for sand. Why so awkward? Why so shy? Well, HE'S A TEENAGER. He never speaks with beautiful women. Would you do better than him with Natalie Portman? Unlike some new stuff from Disney, the scene is so unlike many modern Hollywood scripts with their perfect heroes who speak like... well, Hollywood heroes. Anakin felt real. He's awkward, because he's young. He's impulsive and angry - because he's young. Unlike, say, Kylo, who's in his 30s, but still behaves like a sleemo.
