Haha... I will definitely have to catch it in IMAX 3D then. I just live in a rural area. The closest IMAX is 1.5 hrs away in a downtown area that has sucky parking. So regular theater is my quickest access for viewing.

Just do it! If you don't have transport, go public transport. Don't mind the distance, just get there, you'll never forget it. I'm traveling two hours by train the 14th to be there at 10.00 in the morning. I suffer for Star Wars.

First viewing in Real 3D (we still have no IMAX), but I might see it later in 2D too. However, I have seen Rogue One trailer before Doctor Strange and though I have seen it 100 times before, seeing it on a big screen and in 3D brought tears to my eyes. I think that space battle alone would be worth it.

2D. I dislike 3D. It makes tickets 20% more expensive and doesn't enhance my viewing experience at all. I may also see it in IMAX later, although the time required to commute to it from my home is around 2 hours and I'm not sure if I'm willing to spend twice as much time to get into a cinema as watching the film itself.

I bought the ticket today for the premiere at midnight. Unfortunately the SW movies are always released in 3d here in my city.

2D. You can never go wrong with 2D.

3D is a novelty and always will be. It's essentially a "thing" for movie studios to point to and say "oh look we are an innovative industry".

I'm going to the first showing so I have no choice but 3D. I'm not waiting an extra 4 hours for this movie. No way Jose.

I was able to snag the last 2 good seats but for a 10:00am Dec 16 showing a few days ago. I noticed though they were Ultrascreen DLX 3D and not IMAX 3D. I was disappointed but also jazzed that the showings on the 15th and later on for the 16th were all sold out. I think this movie could be bigger than we expected.

Anyone know the difference between IMAX 3D and Ultrascreen DLX 3D?

I recall the theater I am asking about had a specific screen that was certified IMAX a few years ago. They also subscribed to the THX certification service which I did their surveys. Now it seems they have dropped both IMAX and THX certifications. Should I assume Ultrascreen DLX and Dolby ATMOS are competing systems but more or less the same?

    Thursday Dec 15 - IMAX 3D
Friday Dec 16 - 3D VIP Theater. Food and Adult Beverages a plenty!
Monday Dec 19 - 3D with those seats that move around with the movie!

That's my current line up for Rogue One. Never tried those moving seats before. Anyone tried them out before? Am I in for a good time?

I just lucked into seeing R1 here in my town at 11am next Thursday!

A co-worker has a side business making ads for local businesses that run slideshow style before the trailers start, and he worked out a deal with a theater owner two seats when the theater screens it before the midnight premiere to make sure it works, and he gave me his spare seat! What a guy!

I'll be among the first people in town to get to see it! I'm very excited if you couldn't tell.

Most of the best theaters are showing rogue one in 3D (IMAX LASER which is 4k as well with a more elaborate sound system in comparison to other IMAX's)
AMC PRIME is the other good one, though some theaters are showing exclusively 3D while others are in 2D.

All the shows I bought it for are in 3D.

Keep one thing in mind... if you don't like 3D it might be better for you with Laser because the image is 3x brighter than standard digital projection.

I'm seeing it at the 10:30 PM 3D, Dine-in showing on Thursday night at my local AMC, how are you viewing this movie?

EDIT: Option 4 should be 2D not 3D

10:00am Dec 16 at the Ultrascreen DLX 3D at the local Marcus Cinema.

I really wanted the opening on the 15th but all the good seats were already taken. The Marcus Cinema only does assigned seating and everything but a couple of single end seats were available for all the showings on the 15th.
