Yeah my friend warned me of this the other day.

Common sense really. They launched trailers on MNF and GMA. A Friday? Doesn't align with marketing strategies. Think a lot of us are A) greedy and B) gettin mad over a likely error from ABC.com

I think this is what everyone needs to keep in mind forever: if a "rumored" trailer is going to come out and not align with a big Disney/ABC/ESPN show, then it probably won't happen.

The ABC thing was a stretch. It coming public during SWCE was more likely.

Exclusive which probably means that it wont be released to the general public. I swear if they do the same thing with EP VIII at the panel with Rian Johnson on Sunday and at SWC 2017 I'll go completely abe blast.

    Holy bad PR Batman!

Let me get this straight -

    1. They decide to cut out SDCC and move celebration (which is on another continent) up to a week before instead.
    2. They promise to stream celebration content.
    3. Literally eveyone expects a full length R1 trailer at celebration. Disney says nothing to suggest otherwise.
    4. ABC advertises a 3 minute trailer. Disney says nothing to suggest otherwise.
    5. They stream a behind the scenes reel during celebration 3 times, each time acting as if it's new. No trailer streamed.
    6. They show a remix trailer with a some extended scenes to celebration attendees only.
    7. ABC shows the same behind the scenes reel that got streamed 3 times at celebration. No trailer.

At the end of it all non celebration attendees are left holding their dicks wondering what the point of having R1 at celebration was.

I really don't understand the expectation of a trailer... nor do I understand why so much importance is put on one. Let's think back to TFA - we got a brief teaser in November of 2014, and then a proper teaser in April. We got nothing else until the end of October. In other words, we had a gap of 5 months, and then 6 months. The Rogue One trailer came out when... in March? That's close to the April date of last year. I bet we'll see the next trailer in October, just as before.

I don't remember what the online description of tonight's ABC presentation said, but what we got was a 3 minute promo for Rogue One. With its ending, it was very trailer-like. I'd say we got what was advertised.

The disappointment over having no new trailer mystifies me, especially since we got the BTS reel which showed us a TON of new stuff. I just know that if we had seen what they showed to the attendees today, everyone would be complaining about it, too.

Show me one fan that didn't expect a trailer. That's what they do at celebration.

Yeah it would have been a bit to early in my book, since you don't advertise when you have nothing to sale.
But it was predictable that all people would be rambling about special content, they want to see it.
I'm not a fan of this exclusive stuff, give them goodies posters or maybe even toys, if they are running around there.
But a special look is just useless, it draws attention from the great BTS, you get leaked vids in a quality you don't want to see, no rewatching for the fans, endless discussions about who earns it more, when the target audience for the movie is just everybody.
It is sad but they hurt the success of the BTS clip for nothing, 4000 people isn't the way to promote a film. They moved away from CC to stream freely and then this.

They got a trailer at Celebration; unfortunately, the rest of us weren't in attendance. But what was missing from the BTS reel that only a trailer could fulfill? We got just as much today as any trailer could give us. Was it reasonable to expect a full trailer just a few months from the trailer we got a few months ago, and so far ahead of the release date? People jump to conclusions, and then the internet hive-mind takes over. And once the false assumptions don't happen, everyone's not only disappointed but RAGE FILLEDDDDD!!!!!!!1111 It's silly and predictable. It happened all last year with the lead-up to TFA.

I promise I'm not focusing this on you @Darth Holmes. You're certainly not the caricature I'm painting here.... I'm just speaking in general terms. I find this cycle of expectation and disappointment very interesting... and frustrating.

Agreed, the one thing that hooked a lot of fans was Vader breathing, not that big of a deal, I said it yesterday we didn't miss a lot. And that's why I think it useless to kill the buzz for the BTS clip for that.

My appraisal of the BTS isn't as high as yours. No where near as good as TFA version.

And yes it was absolutely reasonable to expect a trailer celebration. As I stated before - that's what they do at celebration.

This very much deflates the hype of celebration. They had an opportunity to hit it out of the park and it underwhelmed.

Also this exclusive content nonsense needs to stop. If they were concerned about security at SDCC then they just blast the bed with these bootlegs. Make a trailer and show it to EVERYONE. Stop giving the middle finger to people who can't travel to expensive conventions.

But see, I don't see a middle finger to those who can't travel. I certainly can't travel to these things... not by a long shot. But if I were to make the trip, it would be at a terrible expense. And it would be special to be honored for my sacrifice... as it were... by getting something special. Why else go if not to experience things you couldn't get if you stayed at home? I guess that's just a point of view.

The two bootlegs I've seen are horrible. You can't see anything. I'd say their secrets are quite secure. Except.... we do have a description of what they saw. Lots of scenes that we've already seen, plus one of a reflection of Vader. It lasts for a second. It would have been great to see that!... but it sounds like we essentially got the same amount of new material as anyone there. Three minutes of new Rogue One footage, and everyone's complaining. And yet, if they had released the 90 second trailer they showed today - showing almost no new footage - that would have made up for all of these alleged sins and middle fingers? I doubt it. We'd have heard complaints about its length and its redundancy.

We got three minutes of Rogue One. That's pretty spectacular. No trailer would have given us more than what we got. I'll stop arguing the point, because if people are disappointed then they don't need someone telling them they're wrong.

    (But you're wrong ;) )

It was a upcoming star wars movie they were promoting it's just we expected the trailer they couldn't provide unlike TFA last year, I swear if all the reshoots were the cause that's no excuse.

Just the way it goes. Had Celebration been in the States, then others would've missed out. Only fair that those who paid the price to get in get exclusive info first, otherwise why pay and why have an event I guess?

On that note, I'm off to Celebration now!

To be correct, you had to be in that hall, there were people paying the price to get to the celebration but didn't get into it. And exclusive info wasn't included in the ticket price, only access was granted.

Hope you get all the panel access you ask for and have a good time:).

Love that shot. That turtle thing, a city with simple architecture and a Star destroyer in the atmosphere. They are leaning on Mcquarrie concept art.

Doesn't seem to me like they had a lot of new footage in this "trailer", which makes it a teaser 2 in my book.
