3 things that TFA created which I'm VERY excited about.

    #1. NEW FANS!

My step daughter enjoyed the other films, but she kept asking me "What's so great about Star Wars? Why are you sooo into Star Wars?"

After seeing this movie, she said she'd give it a 99%, that it's the best of the series, and that she's now a fan! We did a high 5 :)

I took my nephews to see the film too... they loved it :)

    #2. Anticipation/ feeling

For a long time I've been concerned about this film... now I can't wait for the next chapters! I've felt something which I don't think Star Wars fans felt since the 70's & 80's... I don't know how to put it into words... I'm so giddy about the possibilities. My only concern is that they maintain this level of quality, and I hope they do so in the hopes of extending the series to episode 12... I feel like this is too much for 3 films to cover.

& oh man guys... when that opening crawl hit the screen... I was 7 years old again.

    #3. Compelling characters

We haven't had characters this interesting since ESB. It might take a while for this film to settle in my system before I'm able to make a fair evaluation... but I honestly think Kylo Ren is the best villain of the entire series... he's just so interesting & the questions are driving me wild. Rey as well... I mean honestly, who was more interesting in their debut film? Luke or Rey?

There is so much depth and mystery to Rey's character. She's longing for her family and kept wanting to get back to Jakku, just in case she missed her family coming for her. She wanted so much to just join Han and Chewie. But she just couldn't do it. She was a true friend to Finn. They were almost instant besties. The moment at Maz's when she breaks down was awesome. Then her ability to block Kylo from her thoughts and turn it on him. more awesome.

Honestly, Rey and Kylos characters combined should have been what Anakin's character should have been in the prequels. I'm just thankful JJ and Kasdan focused on character development and not just whiz bang effects.

Episode 12???? That will be in 2025... Exciting, yet I want to see some closure to 7's story points to give some satisfaction before 10 begins.

    totally agree with the OP.

here's my biggest argument for TFA:

the plot and setting of a film is simply the "ice tray". the characters of the film are the "ice".

ultimately, what you're after is good ice. good characters.
you can't eat the ice tray. but you need it.

that ice tray of the plot and setting - it's there to "shape" the characters into people we care about.

the fact that i care about Rey and Finn and Poe is testament to the fact that the ice tray did its job, no more, no less.

the filmmakers know this phenomenon well.
and, rightly so, sought to create "Star Wars" heroes that are new.

Why not use the same ice tray that was used to create Luke Skywalker?
I mean - How could this NOT be the correct answer?

IF you take new characters, put them in a new setting, and give them new things to do, you wind up with something new.
Something not Star Wars. something else.

Now, in episode 8, we will now have familiar characters, and a familiar setting.
guess what we can do then? we can give them new things to do, and it will still feel like Star Wars.

Why is this so hard to understand for some people???

The idea that the force can attach itself to significant objects, call out to force sensitives and create revealing visions of the past.
A guy fighting for the bad guys who deserts and becomes a hero.
Female main character, females in command of the opposition force.

These things may all have been in the EU, but it's the first time we see them in a feature film.
