    According to the Washington Post:

"The mega-fan, who is terminally ill, received a phone call from director JJ Abrams sometime Wednesday who said he wanted to give Fleetwood a private screening of the uncut version. On Thursday, Fleetwood watched the four-hour unedited film, which isn’t being released until Dec. 18."

Beyond the awesome news Daniel got hooked up as he did, that little piece of info maybe something of note. Is that an error on WP part as I would have a hard time believing the movie rough cut is 4 hours at this point. Or did JJ simply show him a cut of the film from several months back before any edits happened? Or was that the film at which point JJ got in all he wanted, but has to edit it down to get it to just over 2 hours?

Not even a Peter Jackson extended edition Star Wars film would be that long. Something is amiss here.

Not sure thats what he meant. However, its common for films to shoot hours upon hours of footage and takes. Superman the movie has a truck load literally, but only 194 mins have ever been seen.

If it is the movie as JJ wanted it without regard to a time limit I think one day I would love to see it. Perhaps in an extended blu-ray edition, although in theaters wouldn't be so bad. I could definitely see at 3+ hours in the theaters, although I understand that would be pushing it for some.

My one hope though is that it was a special version for Daniel that only he, beyond the production crew, would ever get to see.

it was probably misinterpreted as a "4 hour film" instead of "4 hour reel" wich probably includes footage from rogue one or even bloopers from TFA.

I think the Washington Post is just wrong. From what other press have stated, it seems like everything is almost done. I don't think they would show him a 4 hour cut.

I agree that they either showed him rough cuts before the finalized version because they wanted to show him as much content given his situation OR they showed him the final cut given his situation as well. The movie is almost done, so I am all for him seeing either version, but prefer him to see the correct one everyone else sees.

I think it's plausible that they gave him the movie as it is now (nearly finished). And possibly a short "just for you" info 1 hr 30 min video about what will happen in the story from here.

It is reasonable that a 240 minutes unedited version squeeze to around 136 minutes as long as we have two more episodes coming up.

Keep in mind the versión he may have seen was temp audio, temp score, etc.... The general public usually doesnt get to see films in WP form. Think of Blade Runner Denver/ Dallas sneak peak, that was a WP with temp audio , temp score that was nearly finished. That would be a good example of what he may have saw, something that close to the finished product. John Williams is still scoring scenes I think....

There are certain "employee cuts" and other cuts issued in specific and special circumstances. Some run long, or short, or include alternate endings. I bet this copy seen was something along these lines.

By the way, I really want to give accolades to Lucasfilms and Disney and the #forcefordaniel movement and the actors that supported it! Especially amongst all the secrecy behind this film, letting a dying man see it early was very noble.

Link to the source? Even for the directors unedited version. 4 seems too long.

He's restoring based off of editing and finished VFX. Composers typically go through edits based off of what's required at the time. I can see JW editing as he goes, but I wonder if it's digital or a physical score.

I doubt employees would see any true cuts unless they are physically a crew member for Post Produxtion...I know as a fact.

Look, this report is coming from a mainstream media news operation. Which means there is no chance that the information contained within the report is 100% accurate.

I don't mind the unedited cut being four hours as long as the final cut is still under three. It would be really cool if they released extended on blu-ray just how Peter Jackson released his extended Lord of the RIngs Editions

2 hours for the "Theatrical Edition" and another 2 hours for the "Lense Flare" edition. He got to see them both.

This isn't really very weird. The films normally use 6-10 hours of footage for every 2 that ends up in the final cut. They prolly filmed 12-20 hours of footage for TFA. Most of it is alternate takes. 4 hours is super reasonable for a draft that got rid of extra takes, but hasn't nailed down which subplots to cut.

Many film "plot holes" come from B plots being dropped entirely.
