7 min. Unedited Cantina Scene from ANH.

I can't remember how much of this might have been seen in the Holiday Special, which I know did contain some cut scenes from Episode IV's Cantina and Mos Eisley as a whole.

 

That was interesting. There where surprising things in that clip. They did a good job editing that scene for the movie.

 

Although I kind of wish they had left Han's first girlfriend in the sequence. It gives him a kind of questionable quality.

Who knew Han originally had a girlfriend in this scene? That's very interesting, I wonder why they cut it. Would have made his future romance with Leia all the more engaging, especially when she calls him a scoundrel.

 

I think "girlfriend" is probably the wrong word for it. I think it'd be perfectly within the bounds of Han's character to be a kind of swinging bachelor. Dude's probably got ladies at every spaceport in the galaxy. Kinda wish they would have left it in. Would explain why Han doesn't gush over Leia the way Luke does in ANH and would make it more impactful when he falls for Leia in ESB. She'd be the only woman to tame his wild heart. That kind of thing is still implied... but still...

 

Others may be more knowledgeable on this matter than I, so they can correct me if I'm wrong.

But from what I've read, Lucas was concerned with making sure that Han Solo was clearly defined as a "good guy." Keeping "Jenny" in the Cantina sequence gave Han Solo a kind of lethario lounge lizard type of quality.

I can understand the motivation to keep Han clean cut so to speak, but at the end of the day I think it's important to understand that the OT is really about Luke Skywalker first and foremost. For that reason, I think having the girlfriend there works for me by hinting at Han's lethario nature thereby placing Luke and Ben in greater jeopardy, since the audience couldn't be sure what would happen to them if taken into the care of a smuggler with questionable moral character.

 

Great footage! Has this been on the net for long? I've read about Jenny, but I've never seen that part before. I'm interested to know who this footage surfaced from and when.

Thanks so much for those! This is my favourite one. Shows Luke building his lightsaber. Definately a good choice not to keep it in the movie since it spoils half the fun of jabba's palace but great as a deleted scene: (skip to 4:06)

 

The one deleted scene I kind of wish was kept for A New Hope is the scene that introduces Biggs Darklighter on Tatooine. As the movie stands, it always confused me when early on Luke talked about Biggs and then all of a sudden he was at the Battle of Yavin without much of a "hey there old friend!"
Mind you, I watch the old theatrical version on DVD... not the special edition that shows Biggs and Luke reunite at the Rebel base.

 

Yeah, I think some of the scenes with Luke at Toshi Station could have been useful in terms of showing what life was like for him on Tatooine.

I think the Biggs scenes also help establish the relationship between the Empire and the Rebellion. When Luke is talking to his Aunt and Uncle about joining the Academy, he's really talking about joining the Empire's Academy, not the Rebellion. It's what his Uncle was trying to keep him from doing. So when Biggs tell him that he's going to jump ship and join the Rebellion, it comes as a bit of a shock to Luke.

 

Yeah that would have been nice to see in A New Hope. Puts a bit of perspective in the whole 'war' against the Empire. Hopefully Rebels will expand on that relationship between the Empire and Rebellion, and how people view the Empire.

Have to humbly agree with Djas Puhr in the most part.

I think if Han fraternizing with Jenny on Tatooine would have made final cut we would have been allot more concerned for Luke as the main character, however we also would have had much more respect for Ben and his calm in dealing with such a 'scoundrel.' Ben's ability to pull Han into the cause is legendary.

This would also have made the scenes with Leia I don't know a little grubby. I think this may have been left out given the reflection on Leia and for me would certainly have made me question her 'Princess' status, if she fell for such a character. Lucas had to keep Han a bit more clean than this as Djas has stated, more of a "good guy".

I am just blown away by this footage, I need to watch this about ten more times!!!

 

It should be cannon since it has Luke, Han, Leia, Chewie, R2D2, C3PO, Vader and the first appearance of Boba Fett.

I think it should be considered Episode 4.5.
