    Hmmm.... 80% on rotten tomatoes.

I remember when TFA hit I think it initially got 95 % and dropped a few points over time... Is this indicative as to what Rogue One's score will settle on?

Still an improvement fron Godzilla but must admit I'm slightly concerned. I have yet to watch Collider's spoil free review though.

The collider folks over loved it. There was a consensus that hard core SW fan will love it and casual fans will like it and that some casual viewers might be a little lost. While they say it feels like SW, they admit it is much different than any other SW movie. I think these two facts could be why it currently sits at this rating.

Why? It means 80% of critics liked it. It's a solid 8. Plus, it seems this is the movie for us, more then for general audience which makes me happier than 95% for TFA. In spite of that percentage, the TFA naysayers were so loud that you would think that TFA was The Room or Gigli.

Don't read the reviews, just go in to enjoy the movie. :)

'Kids and casual fans will find it boring....'

' "The Guns Of Naverone", "Where Eagles Dare" and "The Dirty Dozen" in space!" '

    Sounds good to me!

All the negatives I have briefly read sound exactly like what a non-fan of Star Wars would say of ESB back in the day.

Right. This was a movie made for the long-time Star Wars fans who remember the pre-special editions and read the book, comics and shows.
TFA was made to appeal to the vast 95% of people. This is wasn't.

We have the same critics in France. As long as it isn't an birmanian independant black and white movie, they don't like it. The more boring it is, the highest they rank it.

I stopped listening to critics a long time ago. I've seldom seen a movie that they and I agree on.

I totally know what you are talking about.

Does rottentomatoes have a function somewhere that I can rate a bunch of movies and then they can compare my ratings to those of reviewers and match me up with those that are more aligned with my assessments? If not they need to create one. I know you can look back at each reviewer and what they gave the various movies they rated in the past but it is still kind of manual. I have taken a look at a few and when I see their scores for some movies I can totally see they often love movies I do not care for or vice versa.

It will probably drop to around 75% or so. That's not a bad rating though, it will be certified fresh.
Plus, from what I've heard so far, the consensus seems to be that the people who know all the backstory will love this movie.

As long it's "certified fresh" and they can slap the sticker on the blu-ray, it's all good.
The actually rating will probably stay around an 8

You can add the white supremacists jerks who are going to downvote it for weeks and weeks. Those people are insane. They did it for TFA too. Haters are gonna hate because it's the only thing they can do.

All the negatives I've heard so far are actually positives to me.

Chris Stuckmann criticized it for not having MUCH more Vader, and for being action-driven rather than character-driven.

Wait....you mean exactly what we were told it would be from day one???? Who woulda thunk....

I'm going into the movie very excited.

80% is absolutely fine. Critcs are usually naysayers for movies like this (except for the MCU ofc).
Grace Radolph was raving about the movie though (and she didnt like TFA), which is a pretty good sign.

Yeah same here, but tbh I like those opinions they don't have to like everything and it is more honest then kissing fan bums like: I'm a huge star wars fan, I saw it twice, where are the bothans. Let us not forget that ESB wasn't so well received at first glad that Jahn's picked that thought up, I have been saying this a couple of times.

I've come to realize that many films that score over 90% on the Tomatometer tend to be a disappointment. They somehow appeal to "everybody", yet lack the special nuance and details that truly excite the more passionate fans. A good example, for me, are Tarantino films: they routinely score in the 80-ish percent range, and I love his movies. So....I'm usually happiest with that particular scoring range. Things get a little dicey once scores dip into 60%, but anything above that usually leaves plenty of room for greatness.

Long story short, great art seldom appeals to everybody.
