For the record, Mulholland Drive (which was recently voted best film of the new millennium by the BBC) has 82% on RT. Rogue One currently has 83%. Make of that what you will.

Could it be that there is a "war" of big media monopolists in the background. Like Murdoch vs Disney. Because I really wondered about the last issue of an Austrian issue of a movie magazine which you can find in every single Austrian theatre. There was nearly nothing to find about R1 in the last magazine from Dec. I wondered if they kind of boycott this new Disney franchise.
    Just speculating..

I did find it suspicious that the big scoop about the reshoots came from a Rupert Murdoch-owned publication, and that it blew much of the story out of proportion (fibbing about what was going on behind the scenes in order to make it seem like the movie was a mess). It's more than a bit of a conspiracy theory, but considering that Murdoch has apparently thought of the Star Wars franchise as being "his" (when it never was), it wouldn't surprise me.
Not to get too political here, but this kind of thing is why I can't stand the sheer resentment that certain groups have over specific franchises, as if it exclusively belongs to them and it's being stolen from them. I can get the backlash over something like the Ghostbusters reboot (because that movie was taken from Ivan Reitman and was replaced with an abysmal movie), but complaining about a movie solely because it has a female protagonist is nothing short of ridiculous.

Also, having it be twelve words in length completely defeats the purpose of a hashtag. Those things are supposed to be short so that you can have more room for your actual message.

Remember there is also a bit of bad blood between Disney, via Marvel, and Fox over their comic book film properties. We could be seeing some of that play out by extension to Star Wars/Lucasfilm.

Oh man people sad about a 80% on Rotten Tomatoes need to remember our fellow DC fanboys. It could be a WHOLE lot lower.

I did see it shot up to 85%... though Christian Harloff said he hated the music... but I'm still looking forwards to it based on the Collider spoiler free review.

I'm seeing 84, but that's still a really good score.

My favorite review pulled from RT right now is this:

So I'm assuming this reviewer hates all historical films and remakes...

Yeah Argo was so mellow since we knew how that ended too. Reviewers just looking for clicks.

When Hacksaw Ridge came out, I saw it and I was blown away. It was one of the best films I've seen a decade.
I read the RT reviews and you could easily see that most if not all the negative reviewers hadn't even seen the film or spent the duration not watching. Fairly comical. And you will be able to clearly tell who is just being a negative nancy for this movie as well it seems.

Yeah remember that Huffington Post article right after Force came out named it the worst Star Wars movie of all time and they got the angry clicks they were fishing for.

This is why the actual reviews matter within a RT rating.

If a movie is getting what appears to be unanimous great reviews but is still meh on RT, I start reading and sift through the rotten ratings and see which are genuine and which are clickbait ratings

I don't agree, we don't know how it ends except the 20 last seconds.

That's very true, we don't actually have any idea how it ends. We know the Rebels eventually do get the DS plans, but as far as we know Jyn and the gang ultimately fail, only for Nathan Fillion (playing Kyle Katarn) to show up in the end with a data pad full of schematics and a treasure trove of holocrons saying "Is this what you were looking for?"

Seriously, though, we really don't know what will happen, and in the end that is just barely the point anyway. The movie isn't about the Death Star, it's about the crew of Rogue One (as anyone who can read the title should surmise). The tension isn't about whether or not the plans are stolen, it's about what's going to happen to the crew. If anyone could say with full confidence before viewing or having spoiled this film that they then still know the ending, I'd be extremely surprised (and know they were lying).

Nothing was leaked before the first release. All the supposed leaks were fake.

The Fox/Marvel Studios rift seems to have healed a lot in the past year and a half, most likely due to Ike Perlmutter getting a demotion and Simon Kinberg (Fox's lead CBM producer) having good relationship with Fox and Disney alike (though don't go expecting crossover anytime soon). But I certainly think that Rupert Murdoch is still bitter over Disney's Lucasfilm purchase, even though Lucasfilm was never his to begin with (and the company apparently considered shutting the production of the original down a few times).

But if you're accusing all people that are giving this movie low markings of being paid out by Fox, then that's ridiculous. It's about as silly as the tinfoil hat conspiracy theory that Disney pays critics to trash non-MCU CBMs to make sure that theirs do better.
