The Grand Budapest Hotel was the most pretentious and overrated tripe that I've ever had the displeasure of seeing in a theater. It was a joyless comedy (note: having a character have the country of Mexico appear as a birthmark is not funny in the slightest) and a tragedy inert of any actual drama (why I'm supposed to feel bad for the demise of a racist, creepy pervert is beyond me). And it pains me to say this, because I liked the cast, the art direction, and to some extent, the music (side note: Alexandre Desplat should have won the Oscar for The Imitation Game, which was far and away a better score for a substantially better movie) - but the direction and writing were awful, the cast seemed like they were uncomfortable being there, and the last ten minutes of the movie made me feel like I had wasted two hours of my life that I will never get back.

I was disgusted that it got so many nominations, and that more deserving movies (Selma, Into The Woods, Gone Girl, Interstellar, and Unbroken) lost potential nominations over the most overrated and pointless films of the decade. On another note - seriously, why the f*ck did they give the makeup award to this garbage instead of Guardians Of The Galaxy?

Me not reading the comments section on the main site nearly as often probably has something to do with that. Thank goodness Viral and Echo came up with the forum.

Overall, it was an excellent award show. My favorite film of the year actually won Best Picture, and Whiplash got some well-deserved attention. That being said, Keaton losing to Redmayne is a travesty.

Also, I still haven't gotten over that Gone Girl snub.....
