Best Lightsaber Battle

Luke vs Vader in ROTJ.

 

This is the most recently active thread for the original trilogy I could find, and while my point may not be about a lightsaber duel, it is one to be discussed.

When the original (or second) death star was destroyed, chunks as big as whole blocks blew away, leaving areas possibly intact inside. My question is, what was life like for the poor people trapped inside those little pockets, huddled in the dark and cold for days, weeks, or even months, slowly running out of air, food or water. Or were some of those blocks ones with aux. power generators that were able to hold out longer, maybe send a distress signal. What happened to the survivors of the death stars?

 

ESB was the best I think because of the revelations. ROTJ is very very close second in my opinion because of Luke's brief turn or tap into the dark side to beat Vader. They're both pretty close. Both are very emotional fights and the audience (imo) is only focused on them and the outcome.

I also loved anakin vs obi wan, just wasn't a fan of the high ground. Everything else in that fight was the best, I really enjoyed that it was the longest fight it had a big impact on the whole series

 

This is a good duel Rey vs Kyo

 

Goin' with Luke/Darth Vader RotJ.
They each have their own stand out things...which ta me, makes 'em all Great.
Was gonna say my go-to 'the one I'm currently watchin' ' but so far ... RotJ is the current ta me.

In terms of drama and storytelling, the Luke/Vader fights in Ep5 and Ep6 are always top dog, as well as the Ep3 Dooku fight which I don't think gets enough credit as it should. In terms of choreography, the Darth Maul fight and parts of the Mustafar battle are unbeatable.

Honorable mentions go to the Force Awakens fight and parts of the Ep2 Dooku fight. Altogether though, each duel has good things about them and bad things about them, so finding the right balance (of the Force, lol) is difficult. Hopefully The Last Jedi will give us a duel that has both great choreography and compelling storytelling.

 

Live action: Easily Obi Wan v Young Vader in ROTS. #2 = Duel of the Fates(Qui-Gon/Obi Wan v Maul) in TPM
Non live-action: More than one clash of Ahsoka and Ventress with a close #2 of Ventress & Obi Wan v Maul & Savage

 

Death Star 2 duel between Luke and Vader - hands down the most epic and emotional fight in film history. Not only is it a battle between father and son, but also between the galaxy's most feared Sith Lord and the last Jedi Knight. There are also personal battles within each of them - Vader is battling his own feelings just as much as Luke is battling his. There is so much fear and doubt in both of them, and you can feel it.

The score by John Williams in the last part of the scene is so powerful, you simply can't hold back your tears. The rage, the hate, the intense emotions running through the entire scene.... It's amazing. It will never be beaten.

 

Not a lightsaber battle, but the Kylo and Rey vs guards scene. It makes me want to see them team up against other lightsaber users. But there aren't any more in SW besides those two... so that's a shame.

As for an actual saber battle, it's Luke vs Vader in RoTJ. Lots of emotion in that scene with Vader taunting Luke, Luke almost giving in to the dark side, and Luke choosing not to kill Vader.

 

To me it's definitely Obi-Wan vs Vader on Mustafar as easily the best light saber duel ever. Obi-Wan & Qui-Gon vs Maul is then definitely the runner-up. That being said, there is obviously a lot of great ones. Third could be the duel on Malachor in the Rebels TV Series. Specifically Ahsoka vs Vader but really the whole thing with Kanan, Ezra, Maul and the Inquisitors involved as well. Great duel.

 

The one I revisit the most is The Dark Forest battle.

 

The visuals of this battle, I just loved. Snow, red and blue. Looks beautiful.

 

I'm also in for Kylo vs Rey. Best Part of TFA for me. Stunning visuals, great Choreography.

 

Throughout SW, there were many interesting and suspenseful duels. So much action can happen with just a lightsaber. So many different styles of fighting! After you answer the poll, reply down below! I may respond! We all know the best duel, Luke vs Vader on Bespin!

So many fights! Which one is best....

I want to learn more about SW. I have watched Rebels and CW. Please explain any Rebel duel or CW duel if y’all thought it was the best! Or not, I don’t mind! Thank you!

 

A lot of people will say ahsoka vs maul, and I say it is tied with luke vs vader ESB.

 

I do love that duel. It is amazing how a returning “jedi” comes back and manages to take on the powerful Darth Maul, nearly killing him. What a duel, and a suspenseful one at that! God, I love the CW.

 

Without question, Luke vs Vader on Bespin. Nothing gets as cool as that!

 

1) Luke vs Vader (ROTJ), mainly because of the emotions and the score
2) Kylo vs Rey/Finn (TFA)
3) Anakin vs Dooku (ROTS), the most realistic and grounded fight in the PT

 

Honestly, I believe emotional stakes are more important, then fight choreography. Thus:
1) Luke vs Vader in RotJ
2) Ahsoka vs Vader in Rebels
3) Anakin vs Obi-Wan in RotS

Ahsoka vs Maul, while fresh and exceptionally well choreographed, is still between characters, who lack a particularly strong connection with each other.
