A couple of years back Kathleen Kennedy said they had been making their way through the scripts for Lucas' canned Star Wars live-action show codenamed Star Wars Underworld. It was a show set shortly after ROTS that focussed on the underworld, primarily that of Coruscant. She said there were a whole lot of interesting ideas in them. Here's a few that we know of:
    • It was going to spend some time fleshing out Boba Fett's early bounty hunting years as a teenager.
    • Saw Gerrera was going to feature as a Rebel extremist who struck out against the Empire at the civilian population's expense. He was eventually re-adapted into The Clone Wars as a rebel fighter from Onderon.
    • It was going to delve into Palpatine's backstory from before he became Darth Sidious. Apparently when he was young, he was in love with a women who ended up destroying his life. Decades later, she was set to return as a member of the criminal underworld.
The last bullet point is the most important. Obviously we don't know how exactly that arc was going to pan out since the show was never made, but Palpatine would've definitely wanted revenge, and I can absolutely see him using her for several purposes before executing her.

Palpatine was the emperor and before that a well looking senator, he can have any woman he wants because it's good to be the king.

It's not like there aren't old rich creeps who are marrying nice young ladies in real life.

Or maybe, because it is a fairytale after all she knew that their descendants would one day overthrow him... Maybe this was the long game to destroy him from inside out.

If he had a son the normal way, it could be from when he looked alright and not deformed. People were saying from the movie when they saw Rey's parents, He could have been in his early 30s for this to happen. Sly Moore is she even human? I keep wondering if it could be one of the handmaidens because Rey looks like she could be one of them.

After TFA I wondered if she was a Palpatine because of all that imagery of her coming out of darkness, while RenBen came out of light, and there was even that in TLJ, but I got to like that she was nobody after TLJ.

Same here, for me the ship had sailed after TLJ for her being a Palpatine.

So, the novelisation finally answers how Palpatine became a father:

This makes a lot of sense. Even in the old Expanded Universe, cloning Force Sensitives was kind of iffy. It would either fail completely or wind up creating insane clones like those of Jorus C'baoth and Luke.

I prefer this to the idea that Palps had a son the old-fashioned way. Star Wars doesn't need to be that disturbing. ;)

Since I saw TROS, I have always wondered how Palpatine was able to have children. Also because he was quite old even with the old republic. How was he able to go with a woman? Or maybe with the technology, Palpy could have created a child with a machine.

Lol, the novelization reveals that Rey's dad is a discarded defective clone of Palpatine lol. When the occultists made this clone, and he did not have the potential for force sensitivity, it seems they got rid of him, or he escaped or something. Rey's grandpa is a clone, and her dad is a clone of her great-grandpa.

The circle is now complete. For real this time.

And it's Ironic. My least favorite Star Wars film is Attack of the Clones.
