SPECULATION Does Rey, Poe and Finn all survive Episode 9?

KK said the stories of Rey, Finn and Poe will go on after the ST is finished. Okay, maybe she meant that we will still get stories with them even though they died in IX.

I don't think that they will die. I want Poe to die though.

 

I don't expect any of them to die for commercial reasons mainly. Disney would want to be able to make Episode X or a crossover with the characters from new sagas at some point.

 

When it comes to Rey, I'd say it depends whether JJ decides to kill off Kylo Ren. If Ren gets killed off, chances are he will kill Rey too. Imo it would make sense to kill Rey, because if Rey is really the hero of this trilogy and I have no doubt about it, TLJ has shown us what happens to heroes when they do heroic things and complete their arc: Rose's sister dies, Holdo forfeit her life in an act of heroism and Luke dies in a heroic act to save the Resistance and his sister.

 

It would be awesome if Rey dies and Ben Solo brings her back to life like Anakin tried with Padme and Shmi. #Poetry

I actually really like the idea of that.

 

I have the feeling that if anyone dies it will only be Rey. Kylo will become Ben again and a Skywalker will continue the Jedi, Poe and Finn will also survive.

 

Rey,Poe,Finn,Lando,3PO,R2 and the Ewoks will celebrate their victory on Endor while force ghosts Luke,Anakin and Ben will smile at them. #Poetry

 

I hope no one dies. I would love more films with all of them.

Going out with a blast. I like that. Poe could die with his X-Wing saving everyone. On the other hand this would also be a cool way for Ben to die. Hmm. Oh wait, we already have such a death with Holdo. Nevermind...

 

Mmm i’d Love to see Poe doing something other than piloting... and those photos with the mo cap horses indicate that he actually might.

Ben in an x-wing could be interesting... although with the orange overalls he may look a bit too much like Matt the radar technician

 

I meant Ben going out with the Falcon. But this death would suit Chewie much more, I guess.

Hm... Hm... But wouldn't that seal his fate to be a repeat of Anakin's life? To be a person that's not able to reject his attachments? I know the whole "attachment is bad" thing gets a lot of flak (and rightfully so, the way it's handled in RotS is so muddled) but the idea itself is not wrong. The reason why Rey prevails while Kylo not is that Kylo can't let go while Rey can. What would be an ultimate proof of Kylo's redemption would actually be letting Rey die. That, of course, won't happen - Rey is here to stay.

There is also an aspect that I believe needs to be discussed here, which is female agency. While there are examples of female characters being ressurected by male protagonists that were done right (Prince of Persia, Twin Peaks: The Return and also from some perspective Vertigo,) they are always meant to be read as a critique of how men, while glorifying women, objectify them and view them as commodities they want back, not actual people. I assume that in your example this action is supposed to be viewed as something positive and such an interpretation would be a serious hit towards the character of Rey, especially her agency. It would be an aesthetic choice devoid of any consideration for its meaning.

 

Kylo is on a killing spree. For once he would save someone.

Today it's much more likely that Ren dies and Rey brings him back, I know. But I think this would be unwise and get the Mary Sue discussion even further.

 

I get the sentment. Personally, I feel that saving himsef would be a big enough accmplishment. Or not undoing a good decision he'd made minutes before. That would also be good.

I wouldn't really be too concerned about that.

 

I think the letting go could be figurative: Ren/Ben will save Rey's life and the galaxy for love, and will let her go for love too.

This could happen before Ren saves Rey's life. So they save each other's lives: poetry (sorry I can't do hashtags)

 

JJ killing Finn would be the only way I'd ever stop watching Star Wars stuff. Rey...I'd understand I guess. I'm not sure what else she could do, but dying for Kylo Ren really would leave a bad taste in my mouth. Poe dying would not be a good choice either. He almost died once already and if he and Leia both die (not to mention Kylo Ren!)...well...

Overall, I don't think any of the "New Big Three" are dying, if only because JJ has learned his lessons about screen time sharing and killing off characters...
