On the podcast @The Hud and I record, I guessed CLOSE(ish) to The Rise of Skywalker... I guessed: "The Legacy of Skywalker"

I was pretty pleased with the guess to be fair. I also guessed France would win the world cup last year, so I'm one happy Porg :D.

Sadly Matt Smith said in a recent interview that he is not actually part of IX. Of course, he could be lying through his teeth. But it looks unlikely. :(

It could be that Matt is just saying things from "a certain point of view", and he'll be playing some small-role alien of sorts... or even a celebrity storm trooper!

I was trying to put aside my wild head canon but...
I just rewatched Ep I trailer.
And.. beside the fact that that ep. IX teaser is visually speaking reminiscent of that
beside the lines the 2 share...

it just occurred to me something else.

    The titles “rhyme”.

Or they can rhyme... if the inverse of a phantom menace is the is the rise (from the death?)
of the chosen one. The one who was promised (promise vs menace).

    Am I absolutely crazy?
    Help me....

Hasn't Smith kind of cagily debunked this? Saying as far was he was aware he's NOT in it?

Yes, but didn’t KK also flatly deny that Carrie Fisher was going to be in IX as well, and that her brother was “confused”? Smoke and mirrors, people- it’s the mystery box in action.

    The post that was promised.

I just learnt that the Italian translation is “l’ascesa di Skywalker”.
    Absolutely singular, not doubt.

And not religious/mystical meaning tied to it.
If so, they would have chose “ascensione”.

For your consideration dear SW fellers, acronym TROS means "piece" in my native language (catalan).
What we have to discover is a "piece" of "what". The answer next december.

It’s the same in Spanish: “El ascenso de Skywalker”... if it where “La ascensión de Skywalker” it would be implying that Skywalker is ascending or has ascended to heaven (and that’s a given, right? being a force ghost?) or that Skywalker is like vapour that ascends... not very likely.
“Ascenso” translates the ambiguity of “rise” better, although the most common meaning of the word would be going up in notoriety, rank or hierarchy.
So my gut feeling is that Skywalker either refers to Kylo Ren or to all those adopting the spirit of Luke Skywalker rising against evil.

“Piece” - of junk. A.K.A. ‘The Falcon’.

    Rey will rename the ship to ‘The Skywalker’ and it will . . . well . . . ‘rise’. Cuz . . . y’know . . . it’s a ship. Boom! Solved it. You're welcome.

Yes, well explained, but I am not quite sure about "El ascenso de Skywalker". The sonority is good but in my opinion "ascenso" is more for a job or in a physical way, like ascend a mountain or stairs. I'd prefer "El resurgir de Skywalker". For me, maybe am wrong, "resurgir" describes better the rise, in a more metaphorycal and spiritual way, and also means to appear again, to arise, reborn, to recover strength or energy, or give importance to a person or a thing.
I guess when we see the film we will understand the kind of rise and who can refer.

But I agree with you "ascenso" also gives a certain ambiguity to the word.

I’m not mad about it either. Ascenso sounds more like going from captain to general or something on those lines... It’s too specific in its use, I think, although it does have a more general meaning...
El resurgir, el despertar o el amanecer would have sounded better. So many appropriate nominal infinitives to deliver the ambiguity of rise...
I don’t know. You make a great point.

Forgive the thread necromancy but I found an interesting article today very relevant.

    https://www.inverse.com/article/570...ic&utm_medium=inverse-ent&utm_source=facebook

More translation news. But it highlights that some of our members. Below is certainly not an exhaustive look.

The first from the very first in this thread.

    That's darn close.

This wasn't title speculation but when I read the article about dawn and rebirth this was what I remembered loosely from a few years back. This post was from 2015.

I wonder did our little community help them come up with titles.

I think that this sheds some light on the meaning.
