Favourite Sequel Trilogy film?

I just meant that Last Jedi was in my opinion, the worst canon movie.

 

TFA reminds me so much of ANH. In both stories, there is a person, unaware that they have the force. They both meet force wielders, Maz and Old Ben. They both have long, interesting story lines, Luke and Rey. It is a modern version, kind of...

 

That's kind of the point.
Anakin also was unaware of his force connection, met force weilders, and had an interesting story.

That's basically every trilogy of the saga.

The Last Jedi for me.

That is not to criticise or denigrate TFA or TROS which I enjoyed in parts too, but for me TLJ took risks and went in a direction I was hoping that the 1st film in the ST would (though I was happy with TFA overall too). It was bold, brave, something a little different, unexpected, challenging, and thoughtful. A film which left it open for the viewer to think and question the events of the film and what was going on (like a good 'middle film' of a Trilogy maybe should?) It is not perfect, but was the most enjoyable out of the 3 films.

The Canto Bight scene was a great concept and idea, but suffered in the execution (for me, anyway).

TROS could have been it, if allowed to breathe a little more (so much going on relentless in pace, and certain events in it given more thought for a better execution or approach).

TFA was a refreshing and safe start to the ST, obviously a homage and respectful return to the Original Trilogy feel of the franchise, though maybe a little to repetitive in the Starkiller Base approach as a finale? (everyone is an expert after the fact & with hindsight! )

Of course, there are moments in each ST film which are superb and enjoyable, and other moments maybe less. 'Our mileage may vary'

 

I voted for TLJ. Part of why it's my favourite is because it felt the most fresh, twisty, and unpredictable of the three. It seems less likely now after the investor's meeting announcements, but I'd still love to see what Rian would do with his own Star Wars trilogy someday.

 

The Last Jedi was definitely my favorite of the ST. When you look at the ST as a whole, none of them really fit together. However, when I watch them individually, TLJ is full of stunning visuals.
I especially enjoyed the last 25% of the movie, like the Holdo Maneuver, the throne room battle, and the battle of Crait.

I know a lot of people dislike TLJ, but each time I watch it, I enjoy it even more.

It's also so different than other Star Wars movies. I do wish Rian Johnson had collaborated with JJ Abrams, but like @StardustSoldier said, it's a fresh movie.

 

My favorite film of the three was actually The Last Jedi.
If it wasn’t for a few flaws (which I find kinda big) it would have made it on my list of Top 5 Star Wars movies... But alas.
Here are the mistakes that prevented TLJ from being a better film:
1) Luke needed more of a reason to give up training and hiding. I am NOT opposed to him hiding, but I wanted the reason to be more. Maybe he had a terrible vision to go along with his premonitions.
2) More backstory. I love the history of Star Wars and the culture behind stuff, stuff the ST hasn’t delivered on. It would have been great to show us the “Prime Jedi” as mentioned in the visual dictionary, or background on who wrote the Jedi sacred texts. Heck, tell us where Snoke came from.
3) Holdo needed to explain her plan. I don’t like how Poe executed his escape, but if he had known what Holdo was thinking, maybe he wouldn’t gone through with it. But then again... the story needed to occur..
4) there was no “I have a bad feeling about this.” Isn’t that a Star Wars tradition by now?

There were lots of stuff I did like.
1) the most interesting planets in the ST: Canto Byte and Ach To. I loved those horse races and casino. It wasn’t just a desert nomadic planet like some parts of Earth.
2) the broom boy at the end was intriguing and seemed to indicate more would happen regarding him...
3) Rey’s cave sequence. Very mysterious. I liked it.
4) the “connection” of Kylo/Rey. Love new force abilities.
5) DJ is one of the more interesting of the “new” characters introduced in the ST.

 

The Rise of Skywalker for many reasons, including but not limited to:

1. It's the only ST film where the new trio are all together.
2. Ian McDiarmid elevates any Star Wars film he's involved in.
3. Ben gets a great redemption arc.
4. Carrie Fisher gets an emotionally touching sendoff.
5. It's the only ST film where Rey faces any real consequences and conflict.
6. The fan service is used appropriately and benefits the story instead of just being inserted for the sake of it (*cough* TFA *cough*).

Sure, quality wise it's the weakest of the trilogy, but I'd take that over a well executed rehash any day.

 

I couldn't disagree more with that list.

1. yes, the trio is all together, but they are just pissing each other off.
=> Rey doesn't really care about the dynamic of the group. She wants to fight alone.
=> Finn hides a secret
=> Poe's just a jealous dick

2. while seeing McDiarmid again is fun, he tends to overact + the return of Palps was quite unnecessary and convoluted.

3. Ben's redemption arc was weak. It felt rushed and he didn't even talk after being redeemed. But what's even worse, he was redeemed because of the wrong reasons. His mother and "father" redeemed him, but it would have been much more powerful for him to do it all by himself.

4. Sorry, but Leia didn't felt like Leia to me. She was passive and her reactions felt dead. Yeah, I know Carrie Fishers passing was sad and they tried to use unused footage, but the result felt bland.

5. What conflict? Her being a Palpatine? That was one scene.

6. TROS hadn't to rely on fan service in the first place, while TFA had the task to bring back Star Wars.


Yeah, I hate TROS. Haha!

 

And the OT isn’t largely comprised of the trio pissing each other off? Han’s whole shtick is getting annoyed easily, and Leia even uses Luke to irritate him. You can be good friends and still annoy each other.

So what if Rey wants to fight alone? She literally spends the past two films preferring to do something herself.

Are you really complaining that a character with the most ridiculous makeup, over the top laugh, and hammy performance since his introduction is overacted? Palpatine is the embodiment of overacting.

Star Wars is modern mythology. The mother figure always represents maternity and forgiveness, love, and the father figure strength, power, and discipline. So yes, his mother forgiving him and redeeming his soul fits fine. With the death of his father he gained his qualities, and with the death of his mother he gained her’s.

Yeah, well I hate TFA too buddy .

Impressive, I have the exact same feelings towards TROS.

 

It's a close thing but TLJ for me now. After seeing them both I felt that TFA had the old magic in a way that TLJ didn't. But TLJ is what I think about the most.

TROS is a bit wobbly at the moment. Would love to see a longer version which expands the opening act of the film.
