Since its announcement, I have been excited about Obi Wan Kenobi. In fact, this is the first Star Wars project under Disney that I (and I’m sure many others) had ASKED for. (Example: I did not ask for a Han Solo movie. But I still liked it.)

The past few weeks, however, I am getting more concerned about the show’s quality, as details trickle in. My concern in a nutshell:
There’s only 6 episodes. Already we’re getting a lot of side-plot stuff that connects with later shows/movies but not with Obi Wan’s immediate journey.

    Let me elaborate:
-If you read the rumors on various sites such as this one, Bespin Bulletin, and Makingstarwars.net, you will find that Inquisitors play a huge part. Certain members of the future Rebel alliance play a huge part. 4-LOM will even play a part. There are planets and places referencing Legends and Fallen Order. All these characters and places will need explanation and connective tissue within the series. Does this somehow diminish or dilute Obi Wan’s journey of self-discovery and singular mission to protect Luke Skywalker on Tatooine?

I would not be so concerned, except Disney+ just put out Book of Boba Fett. That limited series had so many moving parts within the show, I felt like every character bumped heads with each other, not allowing each other to grow. It’s like a flower bed with too many flowers in it-everyone is competing for the same sunlight and, as a result, stunted growth for all. I still did not understand Boba Fett’s motives. Fennec Shand had even less to do. The biker gang only had 2 episodes to demonstrate their usefulness.

Will Obi Wan Kenobi fall victim to the same style of writing? Will we be drowning in a sea of so many cameos and side-plots that we don’t remember what Obi Wan is trying to achieve?

I’m curious to know if you have any specific “fears” about the show.

I am really only concerned about the fans ruining the fun with this one, too.

My fear is that LFL will listen to the fans and change the size of the grand inquisitor’s head and push back the release date until the fall… the wait is killing me. Remember when everyone hated the look of Sonic the Hedgehog the movie? They actually listened and changed Sonic’s look… much easier to do because it’s an animated character in a live action film… anyway don’t do it LFL, STAY ON TARGET.

I think that in Kenobi we will see live action Rex (which I hate the thought of) and maybe some Bad Batch characters. Does anybody else just think that characters from Clone Wars and Rebels should not be made live-action?

I just hope the film-making itself stays sharp, and the writers don't break canon. I don't like the idea of Deborah Chow directing every episode (especially over Bryce Dallas Howard and Jon Favreau) as it could spread her very thin in terms of episode-to-episode quality. Part of The Mandalorian's greatness is the constant torch passing between directors, where they all put in 110%

I have no concerns over the action and set pieces (Deborah's great at this) but I worry about other things such as dialogue and deeper lorey stuff.

Relax, she's had a hand in more beloved films than probably anybody in the history of cinema: The entire Indiana Jones franchise, the Back To The Future series, the Jurassic Park movies, Lincoln, E.T., Goonies, Gremlins, Schindler's List, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, multiple SW movies and TV shows, etc, etc, etc.
To quote Obi-Wan, "She seems to be on top of things." :)

    No major concerns from me.

I did think Mando S2 had a bit too many cameos... I really like the Inquisitorious storyline that Kenobi seems headed in, but I hope there aren't many other surprises in store outside that. Maybe having the Mantis crew would make sense, but I hope we don't run into a young Mando or something. At some point, it really stops making the universe feel connected, and starts making it feel too small.

that they'll cash in with commercial advertisements, and one of them will be: Obi-wan Kenobi bent over with his robe lifted up at the doctor's office. The doctor says, you need hemorrhoid surgery. Kenobi waves his hand and says, "These are not the rrhoids you're looking for." Then they cut to him at the store buying over-the-counter medicine, relieved and smiling, he says, "Get the high ground, with Force-H." He holds up a plastic container shaped like C3-po, and twists the head off. As the shot fades to black, you hear Anthony Daniels, "Ohhhh no."

You have your fears, I have mine.

Except for the fan base searching for things to try their best to hate, I have no concerns or fears at all for the show. I believe this is going to be top tier Star Wars, and probably the most gut-punching, emotional serving yet.

Ben & Anakin is gonna hit hard (both in-univers and at a meta level seeing the actors retur).

Leia & Luke is gonna hit hard.

They'll make us fall absolutely in love with Owen & Beru, which is gonna make ANH even more emotional.

Several new characters will have tragic paths (=my prediction only)

So yeah... the future promises tears and love, and lots of it! <3

Yep. Here we go with all of the negative predictions. Some people are even calling it the Reva series and haven't even seen one damn episode lol. However I'm not going to sit here and act like I'm surprised.

I carry a bit of concern about the dialogue, it hasn't been particularly strong in any Star Wars live action media since Disney took over. Also i worry that due to the PG rating they won't go dark enough with the Vader stuff. I don't need to see more child murder or anything, but I reckon stuff like him slaughtering Jedi and the out of the suit body horror stuff will be shot and lit in a clever way so you can't see much. Vader is an iconic villain but his portrayal in the OT is pretty tame by modern standards, the RO hallways scene was nice, but I'd like to see them push the darkness and violence with Vader a little further than you'd expect for a Disney + series. Vader's just not that scary anymore so my hope is they push his character a bit darker than we've seen before, try and bring back some of fear we all felt watching him on screen as kids. If there's ever a time to make Star wars content that's a bit darker and mature, it's in a show that heavily features Vader when he's trying to hunt and kill the man who he feels is responsible for putting him in that suit.

Seems like an unusual thing to be concerned about given that Star Wars has always been PG or PG-13.

My greatest fear is that Obi-Wan won't be the focus of his own show and that this show has too many unnecessary "cameos".

This show should be only about Obi-Wan, Vader/Anakin and Reva. No Grogu, no Ahsoka, no Cad Bane, and so on.

But Filoni and Favreau aren't really involved in the Kenobi show, so after Mando S2 and BOBF, that might be a blessing in disguise IMO.

I would just be reiterating @NinjaRen 's fears. I would love a tight focus on the title character. A character study. An exploration of his most important relationships. Anakin, Qui-Gon,Satine - as well as clashing with Owen and watching over Luke.

Boba became strengthened when its focus shifted - that might have been because the title character couldn't carry it on their own. This is Obi-Wan. Any lengthy amount of time not spent on him would be a disservice
