Rise of the Resistance opens in Florida on Thursday. It's described as one of the largest and most complex rides they've ever made.

watching the Imagineering program on Disney+ it's really something else how Disney develops and builds these experiences.
and so gratifying to know that they are 100% aware of where they have gone wrong in the past.
i can't wait to get to Galaxy's Edge, but i guess i have to because it ain't happening any time too soon ~ ha! : D

Can’t wait to experience this in October! The ride itself looks amazing and I’m also interested to see where the story fits into canon.

Disney partnered with Boeing to make full-sized X-wing drones to fly over Galaxy’s Edge.

I told myself I wouldn’t watch any videos of the ride and wait until I went next year to see it for myself...

I lasted a day. It looks pretty cool indeed!

i'm not gonna look! i have seen a brief scene and what the entranceway looks like, but that's all.
it's definitely tempting since it's online, but i really do want to just have the experience!

my one concern is: will it change post-Episode IX? : o O

I doubt it, because it’s telling a story that specifically takes place between 8 and 9.

Even though I’ve already spoiled it for myself, I’m still pretty excited to experience it next year!

for now, sure! but after the dust settles in 2020, will it need a new story?
will all of Galaxy's Edge need a new story? ahhhhhhh! : o O

So heading to Galaxy's Edge next weekend. The whole failure thing is pretty much bunk or at least it appears to be. We are going during the quietest time of year at Disney World. Still it looks like all booking groups for Rise of Skywalker are within an hour of park opening. Found out today that Savi's Lightsaber Workshop is by reservation and they are all booked through near end of February, we can only hope for an opening to popup.

So we have been able to get 4 separate reservations scattered on Friday and Saturday. They popup from cancellations and you have to be looking at just the right time.

Going to be an expensive trip 4 of us building sabers, son just watched a video for the Droid building and my wife is like lets do that to. So we are at about $1500 for inside the park without even spending of food and beverages.

You're going to have a great time. We go once or twice a year and are going next month. Yeah, Disney excels at separating you from your money . :D

    Galaxies Edge trip report.

My family visited Galaxies Edge for the 1st time this weekend. We deliberately waited for 2 things. 1. Go when it is slowest time of the year and 2. when Rise of the Resistance was open. We are a family of 5. My wife and I, my 24 year old son, my 22 year old son, and my 18 year old son. We flew from Chicago and Detroit (my middle son goes to Michigan State University) Thursday afternoon. We stayed at Boardwalk which is about a 15 minute walk to Hollywood Studios.

Day 1: To get the Rise of Resistance boarding group we arrived at the park about 6:30AM and got in rather quickly. Your whole party has to be scanned into the park. Then using the My Disney Experience App you try to claim the boarding group. I had a real good connection nearly everywhere. Starting at about 6:55AM I started refreshing the My Status page for Rise of The Resistance and it seemed to go live a little early on Friday. We got in rather quickly and got boarding group 34. I dont know how many boarding groups they were able to board on Friday but likely close to 150. Now our boarding group was 5 people others could be smaller or larger. Then we went and had breakfast at Ronto's Roasters which was pretty good. Walked around some and found out where everything was located at. Then shopped a little, my oldest son picked up this little Porg that magnetically can attach to things and he spent the weekend on my sons shoulder. Then headed to Toy Story Mania for a fast pass. Then headed back to Galaxies Edge. Took some pictures and then our boarding group was called. From there it took about 20 minutes to start the actual ride. Rise of Skywalker is totally awesome. Then went and had some blue and green milk and had some pictures taken at the Tie and waited around to mess with and get messed with by Stormtroopers and Kylo Ren. It was time for Smugglers Run. We hopped in line and it was slightly quicker then the 80 minutes that was indicated. The line moved along and had stuff to see and it wasnt bad. Then the ride. They give pilots cards 2 first 2, gunner cards 2 next 2 and engineers to the final 2. My wife and I were the pilots which lead to a great deal of laughter. My kids were total back seat drivers and the ride was a blast. If you do single rider 99% of the time you will be engineer. Everything besides pilots are button mashing and watching what was going on. Then we had lunch at Docking Bay 7 which was again pretty good. Then we build droids which was fun and the droids are pretty cool. Our dogs are going to hate us. Lot of fretting over colors etc. and wish they would have had a few more colors. My wife really wanted to build a pink R2. Then it was off to Star Tours with our fast pass to see tne new TROS scenario which was totally cool. Then back to hotel for a break and soak our bones in the hot tub. Headed back and splurged for dinner at Brown Derby and watch the Star Wars fireworks. Didnt experience Galaxies Edge at night on Day 1.

Day 2: We arrived a little later but still were all in the park by 6:50AM. Right when the boarding groups started to be given out the app on my phone froze. Had to restart it and although still got a boarding group it was 97. I know they got through at least 140 on Saturday. So we hunted around for some breakfast. Wanted something different and not much was open yet. So we ended up back at Docking Bay 7 and breakfast platter was pretty good. Tell you what mobile ordering is awesome. Order wherever you want and simply arrive and then pickup food. We then did Star Tours again with a fastpass and then off to Rockin Roller Coaster for another fastpass. Then over to Star Wars Launch Pad to look at new video and props. Checked out the Star Wars merchandise on the main street and then went to ride Smugglers Run again. Line was about 60 minutes and ride was still a blast. Went and scoped out the build your own light sabers and the light sabers in Dok Ondars. So many choices. Then headed to Toy Story Land for lunch. Secured a bunch of photos. Then off for our Rise of Resistance ride. Was surprised that the ride has 2 paths through the Star Destroyer and it is different. Spent some time goofing around went and had a beer and headed to build lightsabers. My wife didnt partake with the lightsaber build. The whole experience was totally cool and loved building a saber with a group of people. The experience was a little quick, but since reservations are really hard to get they need to keep it on the quicker side. We then hopped in line for Smugglers Run again and this time it was getting dark and was cool to see the land change at night and then to our surprise so did the ride. The on planet scenes in the video portion of the ride is now dark rather then daylight. That was a nice touch. We then went to Olga's Cantina and werent pleasantly surprised that it is just a bar and nearly all standup. Disney Reservations should make this clear. We were beat and tired so just looked around and left.

My biggest take away from Galaxies Edge is that I need to buy more Disney stock. It was awesome, it was crowded and it has room for improvement. Mostly because of crowds they need to do more outdoor things to entertain, but leave this at this for now.

@KeithF1138 that is a great recap, and having been to Disney World twice it sounds incredibly Disney.
    :D

Definitely used to jam-packing in as much as possible, feet-soaking late nights and having to call it quits early evenings due to exhaustion, and working the apps with hopes of getting a last minute reservation. So, good to hear nothing has changed! Hahaha.

Disney is an experience, one of a kind in so many ways. Yes you have to plan months in advance, but somehow it can still be hectic. Expensive too, but I promise that the overall experience is unmatched in anything else you've ever done. So much fun. Our family is going later this year and i can't wait to see it all, both again and for the first time!

I gave my daughter a trip to Disneyland with her friend for her birthday and she got to see Galaxy's Edge.

She LOVED it. Both of my daughters are huge Star Wars fans (because of their Dad), so it's no major surprise. That said, she claimed the immersion factor in this part of the park is amazing and that she felt like she was actually visiting an actual location in the Star Wars universe. My understanding is most of the staff at Galaxy's Edge stay in character, use Star Wars vocabulary and know SW history well enough to reference it in their discussions with guest (one vendor for example, claimed she was originally a pod race from Malastare).

She loved the Millennium Falcon ride, she went before the new Rise of the Resistance ride was available at Disneyland, but by all reports that ride is AMAZING. I see videos of thousands of locals showing up a Disneyland at 8AM every morning to try and win the lottery and get a boarding pass.

If you plan to go watch videos on the tricks and tips on getting a boarding pass, my understanding is the entire day's worth of rides are all snapped up within the first 100 seconds of them being available.

I was there last Wednesday and really enjoyed the experience. I live two hours away so getting up a 4am really wasn't an option so I didn't get to ride one of the main attractions. That's pretty disappointing to be honest, but hopefully that improves over time. The rest of the part is awesome. Thankfully someone told me to reserve the Cantina ahead of time. It was booked up 2 days in advance so be aware. Hollywood Studios is a big park so I'll definitely go back because there's plenty of things that we didn't get to do.

@KeithF1138 Superb overview, thanks! We are going in May 2021, so hopefully the virus has calmed down some by then. Really interested in how the virtual queue process works, as a frequent Disney visitor this seems to be a great new idea

Still have no desire to travel to a failed two ride shopping mall which has low-paid college-age actors with the WORST EVER greetings:

    "Bright suns!" (good morning/day)
    "Rising Moons!" (good evening/night).

    *cringe*

Based off your cynical attitude here, I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess that you wouldn’t enjoy the Disney Parks anyway...
