Finally caught up, and I'm surprised to say it, but at the rate Resistance is going, I honestly might like it better than Rebels. Resistance has a better balance of humor and creativity than Rebels did in its first season, along with a great color palate and adventurous tone. It's not perfect by any stretch (I've had my fair share of complaints, and still do), but I think if I watch it again someday, binging the first few episodes will really help.

Maybe its the threat that makes the Resistance feel more...nuanced? grounded? In Rebels, it was hard to feel threatened by the Empire unless a known entity or a Force User came into the picture. In Resistance, we don't have any major Force Users (yet ;)) and the fact that the First Order, while known of is not a majorly known threat, adds to the stakes. Kaz's lack of non-pilot combat training becomes painfully evident when he's up against Stormtroopers; his supporting cast, for the most part, are just civilians. These aspects make the FO far more frightening in the series. And I love that so far.

Will Resistance be better than Rebels? I don't know. Things like that are entirely subjective. But will I like it better than Rebels? Only time will tell.

Although I strongly disagree, I can understand why plenty would agree with you, each to their own.

I way behind on all my TV and only started Resistance last week. Watch Triple Dark last night.

The animation is fantastic. Hard to judge the story yet as the spying hasn't actually started. Which I like - I had thought it would be a spy mission a week but I much before it slowly build up as Kaz learns how to do it.

I haven't taken to it as quickly as I did with Rebels and TCW but I believe that is because Resistance is very different - it has no Jedi or Force mythology. Different is good, but I need time to adjust. :)

I still wish they'd give us about Luke and the Alliance set post-Yavin.

When are the action figures released? I thought it was going to be later in the year.

I mistyped in that post and meant to ask when were they released.;) Will there be ships?

I saw the line up before Christmas and it is a lot bigger range to start with than Rebels got. Does this mean there will be other residents of Colussus released?

I can't tell from the images but are the builds similar to the Rebels figures? Rebels were the best figures and I wish they had released more, including the Ghost. I've been hoping they'd redo the TCW figures to match. I prefer them to the movie figures.

EDIT: My local toy store gets in very little. I'm afraid it is because there is no demand - here at any rate.

I’ve watched episode 3 and I’m really starting to enjoy the show.

I really that Kaz is not an actual secret agent type and that it is a slow build up to his spying gig.

To be honest, I think the element of him being a Resistence agent is unnecessary and the story would be even better if he was just a kid dreaming of being a racer and the show was unconnected to the larger goings on in the GFFA. If they really need to tie it in then he can just eventually get caught up in the First Order plot.

Just finished the episode like ten minutes ago! I can't wait for it to crossover so one day I can watch that episode, TFA, Battlefront 2's DLC story, and TLJ all at once...theoretically.

I'll also add that Resistance does a great job of adding that arrogant bravado Poe has in the most charming of ways. Like, if you're watching Resistance and have never seen anything else Star Wars, Poe looks like the cool older brother; the "reckless cop" trope. And it looks awesome. You watch Poe take Kaz under his wing and you watch him do the same for Finn. And then you see all of that behavior be deconstructed in TLJ - and by that time it makes sense. Poe has been routinely going up against odds and coming out okay...until the Dreadnaught appears.
It also gives Poe a long-standing arc/introduction. Like watching Thor: Ragnarok before Avengers: Infinity War - Thor gets a longer, more emotional arc.
...or you could chalk it up to Poe have some really long days back-to-back ;)

That's a great point and I was thinking this particularly in "The Core Problem"
in which Poe takes Kaz out in his junk ship that barely functions and holds on by his hand, flies into the center of a dead planet/moon with no scans or anything, lands on the surface and wanders around with just a blaster
...such nonchalant adventurousness was also seen in the Kawakian monkey-lizard episode and "Station Theta Black." (But he's sooooo cool!) So you're right--when we get to TLJ we're expecting Poe's "plans" to work. Heck, we expect Rose and Finn's Canto Bight scheme to work, partially because Poe okayed it.

But now I'm starting to wonder if Resistance is a serious enough show that Kaz will get into the same fix from learning such tactics from his mentor. I kind of doubt it since Kaz has plenty of his own flaws to deal with, but it will be interesting to see if Poe's habits rub off on Kaz.

I think it'll be the opposite weirdly enough. The best thing about Kaz teaming up with Poe is that he actually balances Poe out. Poe goes on their team-up missions with reckless abandon, leaving Kaz to play it safe and learn how to take a more...balanced approach. Poe's method works, but only for Poe, and I think Kaz sees that. It explains why he's a lot more savvy when the "Mining Guild" come to town and open (reluctant, but open) to Synara being the pirate spy later on.

That's another good point! You reminded me about the kidnapping of Torra...I thought Kaz was pretty darn brave to follow the pirates by himself, and I was really expecting him to do something dumb and try to get Torra back either from them or the FO, but he played it safe and just followed, which turned out to be the best move for Torra's safety, and his own.

Hey guys! Wanted to bring some fun convos back to this thread again. So HEEEEEERE we go!

I went back and revisited the ending to the Battlefront 2 DLC cutscenes recently. Just for a refresher for anyone who hasn't played in a while....

Zay and Shriv take the plans for the First Order Dreadnought back to the Resistance as they are starting their evacuation of D'Qar and she sends them to the Outer Rim to help assist an unknown group

We first hoped it would be in the final few issues of Marvel Poe Dameron where they would meet up and help out Poe's Black Squadron on their mission (thus explaining their absence from The Last Jedi), but this proved to be a dead end and the Inferno Squad members never did meet up with Poe and Crew as we first predicted, but it did give us a great reference to Grakkus the Hutt and his aid to the Resistance and Poe, plus our first brief look from Issue #26-31 of the tales of Poe Dameron leading from the Tie Fighter crash on Jakku in The Force Awakens and beyond the ending of The Last Jedi. That may end up being something larger potentially in Episode IX, but we won't know for sure until more details continue to trickle out through the rest of 2019 either through canon material (books, comics, TV, etc.) or through various online leaks.

The question I wanted to pose to you all is this.... Could the members of Inferno Squad have potentially gone off to the Outer Rim to assist Kaz and crew on Castilon or a nearby system due to some sort of First Order issue preventing them from assisting Poe, Leia, and ultimately the Resistance? Here is what we know so far...

We know Leia has received some sort of communique (or lack thereof) and tells Zay and Shriv that she has an "urgent mission" for them.

    upload_2019-3-3_3-56-10.png

In Resistance Season 1, we currently are seeing the takeover of the Colossus by the First Order and we are quickly approaching the destruction of the Hosnian System as teased by Hux's speech seen in the trailer for the second half of this season.

    upload_2019-3-3_4-8-32.png

As per the episode descriptions released online, the final three episodes of the season are going to be about Team Fireball rescuing themselves and their friends from the clutches of the First Order while also trying to rid them from the station. Whether or not Inferno Squad plays some role in that operation remains to be seen. Also seen in the trailer (interestingly enough), Leia urges Kaz to leave Castilon and join them officially.

    upload_2019-3-3_3-50-2.png

What if the First Order throws a damper in those plans and this is why Leia ultimately sends in Inferno Squad to scoop up Kaz and evacuate him when the time is right after the call comes in from Crait? We know at least at some level from the trailer alone that the Colossus will sink in the season finale in the Resistance's final push to save the platform from their First Order captors. This last ditch effort to fight the First Order could force Kaz off-world and spiraling into a much larger world in one of the biggest battles of his life fighting beside old friends and new alike

    upload_2019-3-3_3-51-13.png
My theory is that they will all have to leave Castilon after the platform is ultimately sunk and they will decide to go radio silent until they know things are safer or at least get some intel to know the situation with Leia and the rest of the Resistance. We know that Kaz and Yeager have already seen the fleet movements in the stolen First Order files and the may make a tactical decision to stay together and survive as a Resistance unit in the meantime. As Yeager says in the trailer, "Kaz, I would fight alongside you any day".

    upload_2019-3-3_4-3-22.png

This is why Leia sends Inferno Squad out to find them and bring them back to help assist where they can. They could theoretically play a larger role between The Last Jedi and Episode IX and during the actual story of Episode IX.

    upload_2019-3-3_3-58-38.png

So what do you all think? Could Season 2 be a darker season for Kaz and his friends? Could Team Fireball and Inferno Squad team up? They both involve fire! I hope I have maybe given you guys some pretty good clues to solving this puzzle, but if it turns out to be nothing, at least we can have a little fun speculating. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below! Now I'll end it with the last words we heard from Leia since Battlefront II...

I really like this theory (even though I've never played Battlefront or read any of the comcis) and the way it connects the dots!

Just kind of thinking "aloud" here....

If this happened, I think Inferno Squad's role--though key--would have to take a backseat to Kaz and company's part in the story. As you said, maybe they could just swoop in to assist in a rescue. Having an experienced group like Inferno Squad (hey, at least I read the first book) in the long-term picture would totally overshadow Kaz. Unless, of course, he makes a huge leap in competence from season 1 to season 2--which he could! I think the rest of the Fireball crew could do the same if the call came. (On a side note, joining Leia would give the aces an option for something to do if the platform is lost--Force knows the Resistance could use some more pilots and ships!)

Part of me wants the Colossus to be saved so Kaz and company can stick around...but that's also rather limiting in the overall conflict, and wouldn't it be lovely to see the Resistance cast actually flying around with the Resistance proper instead of constantly just repairing the old rustbucket Fireball?

Anyway, this theory is an excellent one and it's good fun to speculate about.

@Ganon136: while i feel like something is going to cross over somewhere, i'm not sure it's Inferno Squad. it would be an opportunity to develop Zay as a character, but she's virtually unknown to most people at the moment. which is neither here nor there, i guess.

something or someone is definitely out there in the Unknown Regions. that's where Sloane skittered off to after the fall of the Galactic Empire, that's where a lot of mysterious action keeps keeps heading toward. and the Colossus is right on the edge of Wild Space, isn't it? if the FO wants it as a refueling station it's because something is coming or they are going out there.

i keep hoping all of this is going to dovetail: characters like Ciena & Thayne, Sloane, Iden, Sinjir, Ahsoka, Hera, Ezra, even Aphra and Thrawn. not all in ix, of course, but there will be connections across the EU. some kind of throughline that makes sense of it all. because contrary to some schools of thinking, there is a plan; all of the EU media is meant to contribute to this world, expand it, and enrich it. that doesn't mean everyone is related or there's necessarily some kind of butterfly effect here, but these stories are definitely interconnected.

i hope the Colossus is a gateway somehow. if it is destroyed, maybe that's part of what sets off the chain reaction, opening the Mid Rim to
    that alleged threat from beyond.

it's definitely all very exciting to think about! : D

just a cool prop, or does it have a greater purpose?
that's a lot of design work for something in a video game brought to the big screen. : D

The Colossus is mentioned to be on the edge of the Outer Rim and Wild Space. As we know from the Adventures in Wild Space book series, most of it is constantly being explored and charted. Much like the Unknown Regions, it is constantly being probed for science and exploration (and sometimes exploitation in the case of the Empire and FO). We don't know too much other than that, but it has this role like Jakku and Batuu sitting on the edge of the unknown. I wouldn't expect Shriv and Zay to have any major role in Resistance. It's not their place to overshadow the main cast, but to supplement the story. I don't see how Kaz and crew could stay on the Colossus after Season 1 with so much at stake on a galactic level. I think it is just a location being used to introduce our characters and to feel like a base of operations. They used the same tactic for the first season of Rebels by using Lothal. They will definitely fight the bigger fight in Season 2 because that's what the dialogue has been implying the last few episodes.

I hope that the compass didn't get left on Ahch'to and that Rey took it with her. I'm sure it'll pop back up in some later Luke material down the line even if we never see it in the movies again.

I'm not sure how it's gonna happen but the giant sea monster is going to have some part to play in the finale. They dedicated an entire episode to it and then showed it again a couple of episodes later.

Just finished the latest episode and was surprised they did a temporary sinking of the station in this episode. We saw in the previews that stormtroopers were being knocked down by water in the passages, so it may be highly likely that the station may still be at risk of sinking. Really enjoyed the addition of the new FOSB character. Hope we see her become a little more of a threat in the season finale and hopefully moving into next season. We will watch her career with great interest!

Didn't surprise me that Leia couldn't send aid getting ready to make the final attack on Starkiller. My theory is still up in the air that her eventual aid to Kaz will end up being Inferno Squad after their brief return to the D'Qar evacuation fleet.

Watched it a couple of times today. We finally got to see Kaz's transformation. He grew up in this episode and I think he will become more mature and more serious, especially after seeing the destructive force of Starkiller in the next 2-part episode. I'm curious if the "next base" that Leia was sending Kaz coordinates to is Crait or maybe the base after Crait, or if that was just a weird way of referring to D'Qar. It could be interesting if Kaz and the crew follow the shattered Resistance through the galaxy, retracing the steps of TLJ but not fully understanding what happened there. It would be sort of like when he and Poe stumble upon the hollow planet and the dead monastery.

Speaking of that monastery, they have completely let that storyline recede into the background. The doll has vanished and everything that we saw and learned, plus all of the mysteries surrounding it, are completely absent. The actual voyage seems to have been important since it was used as another reason for Tam to be suspicious and for the FO to come arrest them and impound the Fireball, but I'm curious when they will add another reveal by making it relevant again.

I agree that the sea monster will definitely be back, as will the pirates. I'm curious to see whether the pirates turn on the FO as a change of allegiances fitting of their role as rogues. I'm still not 100% certain if the Colossus will survive this season. Its arc could be to rise from the sea and return to space or it could disappear into the depths. By submerging, it is almost going through a baptism where it will be reborn (as will Doza) with a new purpose with its imperial and FO blemishes washed away.

I really liked the Security Bureau character. She is exactly what the story needed to sow greater distrust in Tam towards Kaz. Tam feels betrayed now and is going through a bit of a crisis where she doesn't know what to believe about Yeager or the others who she thought were her friends. She is ready to be exploited. It will be exciting to see what they do. I hope they don't resolve the divide between Tam and the crew by the end of the season. That would be a great story thread to push forward into next season with them heading in different directions.

I was shocked for a moment when they let Bucket get blasted and dumped into the sea. It was brutal, harsh, and the kind of thing that I wasn't expecting but respected as a way of adding gravity to the threat. They couldn't kill one of our biological characters but killing a spunky droid gives the same emotional impact. Unfortunately, I was less surprised when we found him back alive and well a few minutes later in the depths of the station. While I'm glad the spunky little guy is back, I wish that he wasn't completely back, or at least they had waited an episode or two to bring him back. Yes, it is a kids' show but Disney has taken kids through plenty of emotional gauntlets in their movies so they could have left that as a cliffhanger for a little bit longer. Considering the damage he seemed to take, he seemed no worse for ware when when find him again.

To sum up, this show has really grow up. At this point in the show, I'm enjoying it a lot more than I did Rebels and I feel that it has some potential. A more grounded and mature Kaz could be a great development in season 2 as he leads a new group in defiance of the FO. We now have three (four if you count Phasma) solid FO villain characters to work with in the red pilot, Pyre, and the FOSB. These guys are more intimidating and less of the ineffective pushovers that we saw in Rebels. While the formula for the show says that our heroes will prevail, I feel like that have bigger obstacles at this stage than the Rebels crew did with their provincial opponents.
