As someone with a Masters in Religious studies (i.e. "Religionology") I can confirm this to be absolutely the case ;)

Off-shoot branches of religions (and cultures for that matter) typically have a strong need for self-identity, of adopting some sign and/or special conduct to set them apart from the mother-group and the society as a whole. That symbol becomes the carrier of their communal identity, and often a rallying cry - you mustn't remove your helmet (the symbol of your power that binds us all together); this is the way.

Although we know very little about them, the Nevarro Mandalorians ("Children of the Watch" was it?) seems to be a crisis-culture. They still, culturally, live in the immediate aftermath of the sacking of Mandalore and code themselves as survivalist extremists in many ways; their identity is basically, "we are the ones who survived and we must continue to survive at all costs (so don't you dare remove your helmet and expose us, boy!)"

Well, all of them are and are not. Something The Mandalorian started exploring in season two is what does it mean to be Mandalorian.

    1. Din Djarin is technically not a Mandalorian because he is a) a foundling (something considered illegitimate by some Mandalorians) and b) a member of The Watch; an offshoot. However, he can also be considered a Mandalorian because he follows the ancient ways: what Mandalorians were meant to originally be.
    2. Bo Katan is technically not a Mandalorian because she a) was a member of Death Watch (the faction deemed traitors of Mandalore by the victors of the Mandalorian civil war), and b) ignores the creed when it's advantageous to do so. However she can still be considered a Mandalorian because she stays true to her word in the end, and puts the interests of Mandalore first.
    3. Lastly, Boba Fett is hardly Mandalorian at all. He doesn't follow the creed (something required to be Mandalorian), doesn't consider himself Mandalorian, yet uses the heritage of his father as an excuse to claim ownership of Jango's armour. He'll only be Mandalorian when it suits him.

I am sure I m gonna like it but I doubt Boba story will have the same success that Mando show had. It's just a feeling.

So Boba is back on Tatooine. Only people we know on Tatooine at the moment are Peli Motto and Cobb Vanth. Peli likely doesn't fit into this show, but Vanth certainly could... Do you think we'll see a showdown between Fett and Vanth?

Personally I'm not expecting any fireworks, I doubt Vanth has any beef with Boba but the feeling might not be mutual. But there is also a question of why Boba didn't take his armor back on his own if he knew who had it. Or, maybe it was as simple as the fact that he really didn't know who had it, or how close he was to it the whole time he was on Tatooine. I know they said Mos Pelgo / Freetown wasn't easy to find, could it just have been a place that Boba hadn't come across yet?

Boba implies that he knew Vanth had the armor when he confronts Mando for the first time. I would think that Boba "allowed" Vanth to use the armor to keep the town safe, or something along those lines.
We have to rule out Boba being afraid of confronting Vanth because he had no problem with the notion of going toe to toe with Mando without his armor, so to me the only options are that he wasn't able to get to Mos Pelgo or as I mentioned, he allowed Vanth to use the armor for a time.

But it doesn't make sense to me why Boba just then found out where the armor went, because he clearly had the supplies to fix Fennec. The whole thing seems a bit of a plot hole to me, but there's plenty of room to fill in the gaps and make sense of it.

Good catch, I totally forgot about that. He did name drop Vanth when discussing the armor.

Yeah, definitely. I'm guessing the whole first episode may be a flashback, catching us up on Boba's last 9 years.. might also explain some history between Boba and Jabba / Fortuna.

I don't know much from Legends in this time period, but was that relationship ever explored? Was Boba a de facto second-in-command to Jabba or something? Was this Fett taking back what was always, a rightful "claim to the throne" or was it just "I like this, I think I'll take it now, thanks" ? I don't think it's the latter, as simple as Boba wanting his own HQ and picking Jabba's.... it seemed personal to me.

That would be neat! Not sure if it work, but we definitely need some explanation for the gap.

Someone more knowledgeable than I would give a better answer, but Boba wanted to settle the score with Han Solo, and besides that, he just did bounty hunter things, and then at some point I believe he became the Mandalore... 'cause why not.

He trained Jaina Solo too at one point. He was a busy man. A simple man, but still busy.

I just had an idea... Let's assume that Book of Boba Fett won't be just bounty-of-the-week kind of show, and let's also assume that assume that Boba Fett will continue to play a tangential role to the Mandalorian/Grogu plot. What if one of the Book of Boba Fett story threads revolves around investigating Grogu's past, to track what happened to him between the fall of the Republic and Mando's rescue of Babyoda from a bunch of Niktos on Arvala-7 25-ish years later. (My pet theory is that Grogu must have been kept in stasis somehow, and that he's actually more like a 20-something toddler than a 50yo one). That could be an interesting arc to follow, and I'd LOVE to learn more about Grogu's backstory from the TV shows (rather than books and comics). Thoughts?

Thinking out loud, the bounty on Grogu was probably placed on him once the Niktos attempted to pawn the child off to someone, and The Client learned about it. (Or, it was an old bounty that was reactivated once the news spread that the Niktos had found Grogu). I'm very curious to learn what the Niktos were doing with Grogu in the first place :)

I agree that I would love to see this backstory in live action, but I'm not sure how it would fit in this show. Because if there's a flashback, wouldn't Boba have the be involved? And Boba doesn't seem to recognize Grogu in Mandalorian.

Oh, I didn't consider any flashbacks. What I want, is to see Boba Fett (or someone else) use their tracking and investigation skills to back track Grogu's movements... figure out who the Niktos where... then who they worked for... how their patron learned about Grogu and sent the Niktos to fetch him... etc. etc., further and further back in the timeline. I don't think we'd need to see any flashbacks, just a gradual pealing of layers of the mystery surrounding Grogu's past.

Looking forward to this series and learn and know more of Boba Fett, I did mention I want a Boba Fett movie but tv series is better. It may talk what been happen to him and how he got out that monster and sure it continued after the Mandalorian but still looking forward to it.

I feel like, in a way, the Mando show taught us that being a mando is more than just refusing to show your face. Its being a courageous and honorable warrior.

Absolutely. We have a proverb in French: "the habit does not make the monk", it means, it is not beacause you are wearing a religious robe that you are a genuine religious.
This is why my remark was kind of ironic :D

I see. Yeah mando taught us a lot about the Mando clan. Glad you can connect that with an interesting proverb. :)
