I don't know about it being a whim. He appears to be quite confident about what he's looking far. I tend to think he was expecting the Jawa junk traders to arrive. No doubt they stop by the Lars homestead frequently on their rounds. It's probably where he got those other droids around the place.

Well yeah... in all honesty I kind of think that too. He's trying to keep Luke there for 'reasons'.

Well, another keyword you used is 'seem'. Anyway, Owen has probably just become very adept at bargaining with the Jawas - he gets the best they've got for a good price! But I imagine all the droids he's got knocking around the farm are second hand 'junk' bought from the them on previous visits. They 'work' and do what's needed, but they're old and far from

We can infer everything is 'old' and on the edge of functionality, because that's part of George Lucas's 'lived-in' universe.

Yeah, their luck ran out pretty quick!

Although as Ben Kenobi says, there's no such thing as luck. It was all fate. Or rather the will of the Force!

Oops I lost a bit and it's too late to go back and edit. I meant to say something like "They 'work' and do what's needed, but they're old and far from the latest in premium tech."

Hey I went on to guessing the set up for the story thread on IX page. Talk about a dumpster of thread, it highlights there is zero to take onwards from TLJ. It's completely nothing, how can that change how this film will look like in a few years time. It can't. The only changes I have, I hated it, I moved on to that I was saddened, then to missed opportunity, to well it wasn't good, it wasn't bad, until I am now completely numb.

    I guess that's progress?

He was so meticulous that the best he could come up with in the confrontation between Anakin and Obi-Wan is "higher ground." Padme dies of a broken heart? And this was the best prequel of the bunch. The development time for the PT films was much longer than the ST.

No change for me with The Last Jedi. It's still the best Star Wars film ever created. Original, beautiful, exciting, funny, and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Well, if you want to nitpick the PT, then we can nitpick TLJ. When Poe meets Rey at the end of the movie on the falcon, and introduces himself. No wait, they met at the end of the movie in TFA (it was never shown on screen, but it was mentioned in the novel and obviously implied when they are all waving goodbye to the falcon when Rey is heading to find Luke Skywalker).

And if you want to take a shot at Padme dying from a broken heart, then I'm sure alot of fans would take a shot at Mary Poppins Leia. So, it all comes down to how each of us look at the movies from a certain point of view..... ;)

No, it hasn't changed. I watched it again over the weekend, and I enjoyed it very much. I also pick up the novelization every so often and read chapters when I need a Star Wars fix. I think RJ is going to do a great job with his trilogy because all the characters will be new. I hope that people that hate RJ eat their hats if its really good.

Everyone is banking on the GOT guys. They did well with GOT. but doesn't mean they'll do well with Star Wars. Making a good Star Wars movie isn't easy just ask the maker.

The last great Star Wars film was released in 1980...

They didn't meet in the movie because it was never shown in the movie. Movie trumps film.
Padme dying of a broken heart and basically abandoning her two children doesn't make sense or fit Leia's memories. Leia surviving in space is possible and her using the force to pull herself back to the ship would be simple for a child of Anakin Skywalker. If you don't like it, that's fine... but there's nothing to nitpick about it. Padme giving up on her kids seems to remarkably out of character and doesn't fit with established narrative.

While my opinion hasn't changed, my understanding of why people like/dislike the film has maybe evolved. I've sort of got to the stage now where I sort of look the film as an M Night Shyamalan film. They mostly live or die by if you enjoy the twist.

With the sequel trilogy so far we have what was universally agreed to be a mystery box film and what the Last Jedi did was basically open up the mystery box and show it was empty.

Some people love this and found it profound and the surprise of their being no big reveal as rewarding as any big reveal. They also loved how Johnson played on peoples expectations to subvert them.

Others have got annoyed thinking why to waste our time setting up mysterious if the reveal is that there is no mystery. And feel frustrated that film they have looked forward to for years or in some cases decades was turned into a series of what is been called "Gotcha's"

While people have other likes or dislikes about the film, most peoples opinion on the film seems to come down to where their opinion falls over these two opposing views. So while my opinion hasn't changed I can maybe see why other people feel differently better.

This is a very good analogy. I love M Night movies (his early ones), but I have friends who utterly disdain them for the reason you named.

i quite liked the movie the first time i saw it, and i still like it now, but i must admit that some of the dialogue is a bit corny. i'm thinking especially of that scene where Rey is sitting cross-legged on that rock up a mountain and Luke is giving her that Jedi lesson. other little things they included seem a bit silly as well, like when Rey is communicating with Kylo through the force and he gets splashed with real water. and don't get me started on leia's superman flight through space... geesh!
but, hey, its still a star wars movie and i love star wars!

Have really wanted/tried to like this movie... but... I just don't. And the more I think about it, the more I reflect on it, the less I like it...

Yeah. How dare there be a princess flying through space in a space fantasy film. That’s so egregious!

The only people on Twitter who claim to rewatch TLJ multiple times are the ones that say they 'need' to skip any part that doesn't involve Rey, Luke, and Kylo Ren.

My opinion has changed over time actually, when I saw it in theaters I loved it, then after viewing it a few times I actually found some things that did not quite male sense to me, which almost caused me to over analyze the movie so much that I almost hated it, but now I'm back to enjoying it because it was a really cool experience in theaters, and I just do not want to ruin that memory.

They were building a death star, not scrubbing piss and shyt (spartacus ref). If they weren't a military operation that was building a massive weapon, i'd agree. That said, I'm pretty sure the empire did use droids for menial tasks like running diagnostics and stuff.
