SPECULATION How Can IX Put the Galaxy in a Better Place than ROTJ?

I am on record that shortly after Episode IX is completed, Episode X will be announced.

And I believe that because I think Episode IX is going to pwn at the box office and if it makes bank, corporations are going to do what corporations do and make more.

So I am not sure Episode IX puts everything into a neat, tidy, completed box. I think we'll see the death of Kylo and all remnants of the Skywalker line destroyed, but the universe, brand and even the main episode films are not going away, if only because they make more money than anthologies and people like them, recognize them and continue to support them.

And when money talks, believe me, Disney is going to listen.

 

You do not leave on that big of a cliffhanger like this without answers...

We will get answers to the rest of the questions of where the reinforcements are. Still so much to know about Project Resurrection and what the rest of Poe's Squadron is doing out in the Outer Rim.

 

Some kind of trade federation would be good.

 

@cawatrooper You had some really good ideas! I think some of them might not be best episode 9... but maybe even trilogies themselves.

 

Not sure if it came up but if it helps, they have said that the turmoil in the galaxy has continuously pushed it to smaller and smaller coalitions. The Separatists were never fully brought into the fold of the Empire, the New Republic never held the same number of systems together as the Empire. The 1st Order is still smaller. The attack on Hosnia Prime made the 1st Order the lone super power. No one can stop them but the Galaxy is in chaos.

I think they need to play up the 'balance of the force' angle in Episode 9 to truly differentiate from the ROTJ ending. The PT/OT were about Vader/Luke but it was also about beating the Empire who was oppressing the galaxy. The First Order doesn't technically ever take power (in a political sense the way Palpatine did) as they just destroyed any traces of the Republic Government. So I believe that if Rey/Kylo Ren can somehow balance the force (whatever plot device they decide) than that can end the 9 movie Saga that starts with The Chosen One in Episode 1.

 

Ben is alive rather than dying like Vader did. That would certainly put it better for me.

 

We need to see the actual return of the Jedi Order. ROTJ left us only Luke. Therefore the saga is all about the fall and return of the Jedi Order. So A New Order would be a fitting title since Return of the Jedi is already taken.

 

Same. I would love to see Kylo/Ben survive, whether it be on the Light or Dark Side.

 

Agreed. It could be all about the fall and rise of the Jedi Order. I also still like "A New Order" very much as a potential title for IX. It would be ambiguous enough. Is it the First Order that triumphs or a new Jedi order (or other)? The PT Jedi Order fell due to its hubris, that was the lesson, or so we were made to believe. Could the Jedi know better now?

That said, I would still very much like to see a "new thing" in IX. Not necessarily an order, but some other form of government. If we have to go the "Guardians of Peace" route again, so be it, but could there be another way? Could there be an alliance between different forces? And, would an external threat be required for that to happen?

 

One thing is for sure as the Star Wars Galaxy gets closer to being better place in terms of peace, harmony it also gets far less interesting

So I want a dark ending.

 

It would be an interesting twist! RotS ended the PT on a very dark note, but we all knew things were gonna be alright in the end. It would be very interesting seeing the whole saga end darkly.

 

They are touting IX as the end of the Skywalker saga. I just don’t see them ending it on a dark note. Especially since as things stand now, if they decide to do Episode X it won’t be for a number of years. They are likely going to end IX with some type of finality with enough wiggle room to come back years from now with Episode X. Since there will likely be some finality to IX ending it on a positive note will fit better then a darker note.

 

For the end of a saga, you don't want things to be interesting, you want things to be joyful. You want teddy bears singing Yub Nub. Interesting is for the middle of a saga. And if Lucasfilm really wanted to make things interesting, Rey would have accepted Kylo Ren's offer to join him.

 

They can't wrap it up like ROTJ, it needs to go on, and on.

 

They probably will later down the road but for now, it’s time wrap things up for the time being.
