Nah. It would have been utterly horrible if John Boyega used his English accent. Not that it’s a bad accent it just wouldn’t fit his character. Also George intentionally made the imperial higher upstage a British accent. Nothing screams villian in an American movie like a British accent. Except maybe a Russian accent.

 

Here's an actual hot take

The way fans think about canon is bizarre if you dig into it, I.e. the idea that Disney/Lucasfilm can say what "actually happened" in SW and that the Legends stories are "erased."

Disney/Lucasfilm can only choose which stories to tell and which stories to acknowledge. To them, canon simply means "these are the stories we take into account going forward."

If there actually is an ontological sense in which one set of SW stories can be "more real" than another, it seems absurd that such a reality would shift at the copyright holder's whim.

The idea that Canon is "what actually happened" and that Legends is "no longer true" is totally nuts.

 

Maybe I'm misreading what you're saying, but I think how they have the whole "there's always a bit of truth in legends" i.e. "here's the historical event but Legends are the stories people in-universe not related to these events tell" was pretty clever. To me, it makes as much sense as any other retcon - those who hold the lock and key to the stories determine which come out of the vault and which go in. If there are stories out that they want delegitimize, you change the lock and key.
But I'm a superhero fan first and foremost, so having retcons and the whole canon argument is pretty par for the course.
