KOTOR gets my vote. I like the second game well enough, but you just can’t beat the story of Revan.

Best games for Star Wars ever released, I'm kinda hoping the Rian Johnson / GOT series ended up being in a similar vein and time frame as these games. Early Jedi and Sith that what we've been used to!

Wrong, Rebel Strike was the best SW game.

KOTOR I and II was my "Original Trilogy" moment that so many had back when Star Wars released in 1977. It was playing those games when I was young that really cemented me as a Star War fan for life. They both had such different feels that is hard to compare them but my vote goes to KOTOR II. They feeling you get playing that game is so dark, tense, and at times even depressing. Obsidian takes not get near enough credit for the big chance they took with presenting a Star Wars story in that fashion. Great characters and the shadow war between the Jedi and the Sith is something that has not been replicated since.

Also it did a better job developing Revan as an interesting character than his own game did.

I voted KOTOR 1 but just barely. What I really want is a HD remake with new levels (HK factory), The option to have turn based combat or live action like Dragon age so it has broader appeal without betraying what the originals were and a trailer for KOTOR 3. So not much to ask for

KOTOR I because you actually are ***SPOILERS*** Revan, former Sith Lord and Jedi Prodigal to be (unless you finish the Dark Path and become resurgent Dark Lord). The story, gameplay and characters of KOTOR ard too me as iconic as the Original/Classic Trilogy. Revan has made ripples in the galaxy, even inspiring Kylo Ren’s mask.

KOTOR II for me suffers mainly due to glitches and bugs that weren’t ironed out before it was released on Xbox. The premise of you being the last Jedi was intriguing, and Darth Nihilus has his own cult following among cosplayers.

However, even if KOTOR II was devoid of bugs, Revan’s story in KOTOR would always be my favorite. I have fond memories of searching the lower depths of Taris, helping the Wookiees on Kashyyyk, and killing Kath hounds on Dantooine.

    Welcome to the Cantina!

On the subject at hand...I'd say KOTOR 1 overall. The story, characters, and replay value at the time was legendary, even for someone like me who didn't get the chance to play it until 2015.

On the other hand, KOTOR 2 as Kreia and customization. I have the guidebook for KOTOR 2 and as a kid I would spend HOURS daydreaming about creating my own lightsabers in the game despite not being able to play it.

I prefer Kotor 2 even though it suffers from rushed development, cut content (even the mod doesn't fix everything), and no real ending; none of which are Obsidian's fault. I like the darker atmosphere and I think the characters and story have more depth and nuance than Kotor 1; overall I think the writing is far better than in Kotor 1. That being said, I think Kotor 1 has one of the greatest revelations (I don't really consider it a twist) in gaming history. Both are great games and on my "favorite of all time" list.

Xbox had some real problems. Halo 2 was finished and then the entire game crashed and they lost two years of work and had to rush to recreate it (that’s why the campaign wasn’t as good Halo CE). It makes me wonder if KOTOR II had a similiar hiccup and it was rushed due to similiar problems as Halo 2.

I voted Kotor 2. Mainly because with Kotor 1 I finished and moved on, while Kotor 2 intrigued me for some time with the restoration mod and all the possibilities it could bring.

I prefer KOTOR I because the story is so SW: it has the mood, locations, characters, and more. I will always love it because my favorite all time SW character, Revan/Darth Revan was born in that game.

KOTOR II never made much of a impression on me because my Xbox copy was super buggy, freezing often, and I got stuck and could not progress in the game because of a glitch. I did see the potential with the fantastic Darth Nihilus and the more complex choice+consequences system.

KOTOR, simply because you are playing out Revan' story arc.

First KOTOR for me, played it to death when I was younger. Recently purchased KOTOR 2 and really did not find the first level engaging whatsoever compared to the first. The level design just made the game feel like a slog whereas the first KOTOR felt so compelling and a blast to play from the start.

Having recently replayed both games, I have to say that KotoR surpasses KotoR II in many ways. Atton Rand is the only truly interesting character among the party of KotoR II. I know a lot of people would argue Traya, but I didn't find her or her philosophy as deep as Obsidian or other players make her out to be. Sure, the story is darker and "more mature" but it lacked substance beyond Traya's motives, which were kinda half-baked. Even the reveal of the truth of the Exile was nowhere near as shocking as the revelation within KotoR.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying KotoR II is bad, I just feel that much of its faults are due to the sudden change in development team, and the fact that Obsidian was rushed to get the game out. I mean, the game didn't even have a proper ending. It was a cutscene that answered absolutely nothing. You have 0 clue how it impacts the galaxy, your party, or even your character. It's not even a cliffhanger or open-ended. It just... ends.

I felt more connected and invested in the characters and backstories of the party within KotoR than KotoR II, save for Atton. Yes, even Juhani and Carth.

Levels/Worlds in KotoR felt more lengthy and rewarding, in terms of gameplay and story. I can barely remember the planet quests of KotoR II, outside of the main plot, and it wasn't even that long since I've played it.

The Taris questline in K2 was pretty memorable if you ask me. But for all the wrong reasons.
I bet a lot of players didnt make it
through that section and stopped playing altogether.

    KOTOR, hands down.
I enjoyed kotor2, but the experience of playing that style of game for the first time - diving deep into (then) Star Wars history. I still remember falling out of my chair with that incredible twist at the end. Nothing like it.

I think it really depends on what you value most.

KOTOR I is a masterpiece of storytelling and it's twist might be the only twist Star Wars has done with as much impact and foreshadowing without giving the end-result away as Vader being Luke's father. That said, it's definitely a space adventure with a story more grounded in what you'd see in a Star Wars movie than it is a unique take on Star Wars, which absolutely isn't a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination. It's also an entirely solid game in terms of mechanics. It's my favorite Star Wars game of all time and nothing will ever change that.

KOTOR II is an incomplete game. No amount of modding or restoration of content fixes that. The gameplay and mechanics are often broken by the changes it has, and it feels exactly like what it was; A game rushed out by a subsidiary company in two years without any of it's ideas, concepts, or new gameplay elements completed. All of that being said, KOTOR II does manage to shine on in a way that no other Star Wars project ever has, and that's the themes it explores and the deconstruction of the ideas of the franchise it pursues. Kreia might be the most fascinating character Star Wars has ever produced, and just her mere presence manages to make the rest of the often-incomplete plot shine through the ideas and love for the franchise that the creators clearly had, but couldn't fully develop in the time they had with the resources they were offered. The deconstruction of the force as a concept and the conclusion the game comes to is extreme and obviously shouldn't be taken as some sort of overarching fact about the saga, but it's an entirely logical take that adds such depth to the entire saga that it never quite leaves you. I look at KOTOR II as a game who's themes manage to rise above the rest of the muk it presents, taking an incomplete mess and offering it a redeeming quality so powerful that it manages to save the game in the memories of those who played it despite it's incomplete nature.
