Today I saw Planeta Bur' (Planet of Storms) - classic Russian sci-fi movie from 1962. It's about a (primarily) Soviet expedition to Venus and is filmed with very innovative techniques for it's time. Check it out if you are interested in classic sci-fi, but try to get the original Russian cut, not whatever the Americans did to it.

Ant-Man and the Wasp (in marathon with Ant-Man).

Great movie. Had a lot of fun with it. I loved that it was a smaller movie with less stakes than IW. The movie was very funny & Michael Peña had the most funy moment of the movie.

A Quiet Place - This movie is terrifying in a good way. It was haunting. It was weird and madness. Be quiet...shhhhh

Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom. Not as bad as I feared I actually quite like it. The opening half on the island was the best part of it but the ending set up the next film very nicely so let’s seee wjhat they can do with it.

I watched Lean On Pete last night and Ant-Man on Sunday. I'm hoping to see Sorry to Bother You tonight. Lean on Pete was a little long. Ant-Man was funny but rather forgettable.

Continuing through stuff lying around this weekend. Now it's The Crow (1994). A typical revenge story, but done in a unique (by today's standarts) style - it has dark, gothic, "everything is dirty" ninetees look, typical 80-90s action scenes and excellent final performance by Brando Lee. Check it out if you want a fun nostalgia trip, because they don't make movies like this anymore.

Came back from a screening of Incredibles 2 and let me use a quote from the original Incredibles to describe the film:

Amazing action, great voice acting (seen the Polish dub, heard nothing but good opinions about the English one,) fantastic jokes, gorgeous costumes, production design, animation and an overall great story. I also really apprieciate the focus this film puts on collateral damage. Finally a great non-Toy Story Pixar sequel.

PS. How could have I forgot about the score? It's great as well. Just go see it. You'll have a great time. The short, Bao, is fantastic as well.

The triumphant return of Joe Bob Briggs was marred by the fact that Shudder's server's couldn't handle the demand so like many people I missed the majority of his marathon but they put the first movie up On Demand. It's been a long time since I saw this and it was pretty creepy/weird but the highlights were Joe Bob's host segments.

One of the greatest movies of all time, based on the book by the great Stephen King :D

Love this movie so much. Morgan Freeman is so good in this flick.

I'll own up (no I didn't give the rating) but I do actually disagree that it's one of the greatest movies of all time.
It's a fine movie and I don't blame anyone for putting it that high on their list but to me it seems to have gone from "criminally underrated" to "one of the greatest of all time" in my lifetime.

I don't think the movie got any better than when it was released (and it was widely overlooked) but I think we are now in a generation where this movie played ad nauseam on TV and were told how "criminally underrated" it is. I think this creates a weird bubble effect where people then begin to appreciate a film then it leads to over-appreciation. It happens with a lot of films. You always see movies randomly pop up with huge bubbles of popularity and such. In the case of Shawshank, and less so with others that get this treatment, it's *actually* a very good movie.

So yeah, I do disagree it's one of the greatest all time (I guess depending on how deep your greatest list goes lol) but rather a very good movie that sort of has this big generational push.

And this isn't me saying it's overrated either, I just think "one of the greatest of all time" is such a lofty goal that it should be very difficult to be and those films suggested for it should be put under heavy scrutiny
