Would you recommend it to a friend? I'm asking... for a friend.

It is supposedly an epic movie, but I do have my doubts :p

Dragonslayer - Never seen this movie before. It came out in 1981 starring Peter Macnicol and also has Ian McDiarmid with a small roll.

It's about an apprentice(Peter Macnicol) to a Merlin type man who goes to help get rid of a dragon that a King is using to get rid of young women by using a lottery system at a Kingdom. A group of people seek out the Merlin type person only he dies by a daggar when tested by a knight. I think this was on purpose as he was old and so the apprentice could be the hero. Then the apprentice sets out to take his place in killing the dragon, but then comes into all sorts of trouble with the King. I think the King is worse than the dragon.

I'm not sure where this movie was shot, but the landscape is breathtaking. And the Dragon and effects weren't bad for 1981. They give just enough of him to make you believe. Peter Macnicol is really good. I've never seen any movies when he was younger before.

    Overall a good movie.

Watched When Harry Met Sally for the first time last night. Really enjoyed it, thought their relationship was really realistic. Started by pissing each other off, then were in and out of each others lives for years before they get their blast together. Carrie is in it too, what a lady - I miss her. Tempted to get one of her autobiographies

I eventually managed to watch Knives Out on the big screen.
Thanks to Corona shutdown it was shown in an improvised drive-in theatre near by.
We really enjoyed it. Great movie.

And I watched Interstellar which I really enjoyed. But if you start to think about it too much it seems to look like a huge black plot hole. Great movie anyway.

Hamburger Hill - One of my Uncle's once claimed this was the best movie about the Vietnam War. He also claimed he was in the Vietnam war and wasn't...anyway, this is an ok movie. I've seen way better like...

    This one

We Were Soldiers which I also watched yesterday. Very intense movie.

I saw that once late night on cable in the early 00's, I didn't hate it because I thought Steve Zahn was kind of funny and I was more than kind of drunk. You're right though, it really wasn't original. It felt like a lame rip off of Spielberg's "Duel" with a little "Scream"/"I Know What You Did Last Summer" thrown in.

I am experiencing the animated movies from Studio Ghibli for the first time, and yesterday I watched Porco Rosso. Loved every second of it. I think many Star Wars fans will appreciate the dog fights and how they are animated. The animation style in the entire movie is really breathtaking.

Braven - Starring Jason Mamoa - About a logger and family man whose friend is involved with a heroin runner. His friend drives a logging truck and picks up a drug dealer as they drive the snowy roads end up getting in a wreck and end up hiding the heroin at Jason's cabin.

Then later he and his father show up there and find the heroin as the bad guy wants his heroin and the game is on because Jason isn't gonna give to him.

Not a great movie, but not too bad either.

Step Up 2: The Streets last night. It's been a hot minute since I've seen it, so it was really nice to go back to. Andie's speech at the end is TERRIBLE, and Chase is a Jerk (with a heart of...silver, but still a jerk), and Moose is still the best. Not sure if I want to continue on into later movies since I've only watched 1-3, and I didn't really care for 3. Definitely not anytime soon, but we'll see.

Oh dang now I want to watch that, I haven't seen it in probably 25 years. I saw it in the theaters and liked it, and like it the first few times I saw it on VHS/TV but it was one of those movies that got old fast because it was seemingly EVERYWHERE. I got so tired of it but now that it's been so long I'd probably enjoy it again.

Yep, Ghibli’s features* are on Netflix in most places (I believe they are on HBO Max in the US). I’ve been a fan for a very long time and recommend them all. Hayao Miyazaki (co-founder and director of many of the films) is my favourite film director of any films, animated or otherwise.

*The one major exception is ‘Grave of the Fireflies’, (originally released as a double-bill with ...Totoro) an incredibly sad but amazing film worth seeking out - I think it must be a rights issue.

I’m doing a re-watch of Miyazaki’s features in order over Netflix with a family member then discussing them over the phone afterwards, it’s a joy as always and although individual films there’s something to be said for the enjoyment of them all building once you recognise the regular themes in his work.
