Just finished watching Chapter 5... A solid heavily nostalgia-packed one but it doesn't really bring us forward story-wise and it's something that starts to worry me a bit given that there are only 8 episodes in Season 1? So that's only 3 left; if they're also 30-ish minute long then I can't see the story progressing much to be honest.

That said - we're on Tatooine! Just hearing the name Mos Eisley on the comms made me excited. The twin suns, the Cantina, the pit droids, Tusken raiders with Banthas, the dewback, a scoundrel in the Cantina, speeder bikes, a space shootout... but the biggest one came right at the end of the episode. Could it be... Boba Fett??? Or is it more likely Moff Gideon?

    Either way, I love it.

this is my other criticism of the episode. i would have loved to have seen her become more of a nemesis-in-pursuit.
this show giveth and then taketh away too soon! XD

What was most significant for me:

The Tusken people. Yes our encounter with them is brief but their presence is felt pretty quickly. In Legends and in Canon, we hear about Tusken warlords rising up and raiding Mos Eisley and Anchorhead in the era covered in the Obi-wan show and in the era of this show, too. Judging by the brutality of the blunt force trauma to the stormtrooper helmets and their implied severed heads stuck on pikes, I think we can guess that is the work of the Tuskens who are reclaiming what they believe to be rightfully theirs. Mando even refers to the Tuskens as the locals. This may have something to do with how empty and desolate this once-thriving outpost has become. The power vacuum after Jabba's death has been brutal. There is a lot of good Tusken lore in Legends and I hope we begin to see it come back through returns to Tatooine in this show and the Obi-wan show.

I'm also thinking back on the Aftermath series how there were a couple of Tatooine excerpts. One talked about how the Tuskens were getting more restless and the other talked about a local unknown man who was seen wearing some of Boba Fett's salvaged armor that he got from the Jawas. That character was acting as a frontier Marshall for these towns in the post-Hutt era. In the final scene, the sound designer clearly added the sounds of spurs clanking on boots as our mysterious figure walked up to the assassin's body. That could be Grief Carga, that could be Mando, but that could also be our new Marshall.

Three more episodes is about the length of a movie, so there's still plenty of time for lots to happen.

The style of the show has me fully expecting a huge finale and a cliffhanger for next season.

If I was the kid, I would have stunned Fennec instead of killing her, then I would have taken my shot at the Mando. Double my reward, double my legendary status-- the kid who took down two fugitive badasses singlehandedly.

Good episode. Not the best episode but...
    Tatooine!
The same hill/canyon with Luke and Obi-Wan!!
Post-empire Mos Eisley!!! (very well presented)
    Same streets!!!!
    The Cantina!!!!!! (cool same entrance)
    All this is top.

Lots of scenes from the trailers and great nostalgia and western vibe (like two pale riders on their horses). Say what you want, but for me is when all the spin-offs, and cartoons and movies work, when you put something clear from OT and the story we know, something you connect with previous movies. But, why we can not be more critics?

Better than chapter 4 but for my, by far this chapter has the weakest and poorest special effects, make-up and costumes. All previous 4 chapters has been really amazing but It seems the budget has fallen drastically with this one.
-People, I have seen better Tusken raiders in a convention. Come, on! Be honest.
-Space battle is simple. We have been talking about the yellow ship and even in the show you can't appreciate nothing about that ship (first the explosion and then the scream was really weird lol).
-Poor dark scenes maybe to hide its deficiencies.
-Don't like the camera work from Filoni here and the cinematography.

    It's all in the details.

Sorry for say this but now I have my doubts with Favreau and Filoni taking the reins of the franchise. If Favreu has been working more than 3 years in the story, honestly I was expecting something more labored.
I know I will get my negative points and maybe am being too critic but is how I feel. I don't like the direction is taking the story and the interesting parts are decreasing.

And yes, I have enjoyed Mos Eisley hugely and immensely. It's what makes a cool episode.

That angled shot of the Mando atop the Dewback was exactly like this promotional still from ANH from 1977!

    Exactly.

I guess the problem was getting Fennec back to cash in the reward with only one bike...? But like the Mando said, the kid could literally have dragged her.

Maybe we are just supposed to understand his greed makes him stupid?

Not stupid. Maybe a little green. A more experienced bounty hunter might have proceeded in the way I suggested.

The Tusken Negotiation was definitely one of my favorite "little moments" so far.
And yes, the Mando really needs to pony up and hire a full-time babysitter.

I might have missed it but was Jabba mentioned at all? Or Hutts in general?

I think Hutts were mentioned when Mando cautions the kid about the Dune Sea. Or maybe my mind just jumped to Hutts.

I know! I should go rewatch the episode!

Hutts were mentioned as once being employers of Fennec the assassin.

Awww, this episode was bottled nostalgia. It's good to see that Tatooine is a quieter place without the Hutts, even Tuskan raiders are friendlier. I knew the kid was dead since he showed up in the Cantina (justice for droids who were once forbidden to enter, they are running it now). Ming Na Wen was wasted, this character could have been played by anyone. Peli Motto is another in a long line of characters taken by Baby Yoda - she is us.

This might be my least favorite episode so far. It didn't move the needle of the plot or character development, though the opening space battle and the speeder bike race through the desert were cool. It was lovely shot and you can see that Filoni is getting the hang of it, but it just didn't move me at all (well except Baby Yoda cooing, but what did you expect?).

And no, that's not Boba Fett. It's either the expected moff or, if that was Mandalorian armor, it might be Cobb Vanth, he is on Tatooine after the fall of Empire. Former is more likely.

I don't think character development is one the primary motivators here; I think those would be establishing a consistent style and mood, and also world-building on a TV scale and TV budget. They're pushing the envelope to see what they can accomplish in this format, which will pave the way for future series in the pipeline. Character development would be a nice bonus, but it's clearly taking a backseat. Not that I mind, though. There are more episodes and hopefully many more seasons to come!

Yep. As soon as she started talking about his bright eyes and tweaking his ears I was like, "Oh, look, it's me." :p

So do we think Babyoda used the Force again to save himself after the Mando irresponsibly shot the kid while he was holding Babyoda?

Is she really gone though? I mean it sure looked like it, especially with them just leaving and her not having moved since -- but the way that Spurs walked up on her with an instant cutaway gave me the impression that there is hope yet for a Ming Miracle. I mean if she is gone, why bother with an introduction of Spurs in that manner?

This is why I changed my mind and I'm convinced its Boba Fett too. There literally wouldn't be a more suitable spot to bring back Boba Fett than that moment right there...

But then I want to see him killed by Mando, controversial I know

What's the theory about how Boba Fett is still around and not in the belly of a Sarlacc? I'm not up on these things.

In the Aftermath, his armor was found by Jawas near sarlacc pit and bought by Cobb Vanth who helped free Tatooine of crime after Jabba's death left power gap. It is unclear if Bobba was digested by sarlacc and his armor spit out or he escaped leaving his old life behind. So, basically we don't know.
