THat’s because the show is meant to be binged. If you watch episodes back to back it doesn’t feel short or like they are running out of time. Its like “The Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions”, they are meant to be watched bsck to back to get the full effect of the story.

Disagree. They deliberately released weekly because they want Star Wars buzz to be on going for some time. Not to be binged and then basically forgot.

Well agree to disagree. I feel when ai watch the episodes together, espeically 1-3 of Mando, it feels fuller and everything is fresh in your mind. I do agree Disney is purposely releasing them one at a time (great marketing and to create a thrist for more) but if you watch the episodes back to back it feels more cohesive and like a larger film.

Arent most series like that? Since GoT has come up so often it was always released weekly. Binge the episodes and of course it is more cohesive and feels like a huge film. Series like CSI or something like that where weekly episodes are really a new story are different, but lots and lots of shows are going the long form story format. Some released to binge and some released weekly.

Yeah, to me it's not filler because it had a story purpose for the reasons I listed.

    But, to each their own.
So far, I'm really enjoying everything.

    Cheers,
    Jayson

CSI wasn’t story cohesive. Every case was new. What evolved was the characters and their development; i.e. it wasn’t plot driven. I cannot speak for GoT, never invested in watching it.

Mando is plot and character driven. The plot is Mando gave up the Guild, is protecting Babyoda, and must somehow reunite with his tribe.

That was my point about any of the CSIs or Law and Order. They are for the most point individual stories with really no season long arc. So binging although maybe fun, doesnt make the story more cohesive. GoT is like The Mandalorian the season has 1 story to tell and of course not taking breaks enhances it in one way. Still breaking it apart week after week makes it more fun. It is more fun to come into work and talk about the episode, it is more fun to get online and discuss the episode. Prime example is Stranger Things. Season 3 was my favorite. We binged it then talked about it for a about a week. Then it was basically done for now.

So then we are both right. I say its better to watch episodes back to back, especially for archs like 1-3, and upcoming two parter episodes, you say its more fun one episode a week. Well why not have both? Enjoy the week to week releases and then rewatch binge.

So...rewatch it when you have them all for fun of the back-to-back picture...?

I feel like so many people are saying this is a filler episode. The simplest and most reasonable explications have hit the nail on the head.

    1. It’s a love letter the the original trilogy.

It’s Mos Eisly people! The original Star Wars kicked off here. The cantina is where it all began. It’s where it’s starting here as well. The first 3 episodes set the ground work. The 4th began broadening into other characters that we’ll probably see later. The 5th is a love letter that is a symbolic starting (to me) at the same point.

    2. It’s giving character development and background

Becoming an independent/freelance bounty hunter because the guild is after him and TINY. Showing that his actions have been heard in other parts of the galaxy. This implies that more dangerous hunters will be on the way. Shows that their probably already on the way (Spurs at the end of the episode). He and TINY are becoming the focus of attention. You knew they would be but we’re seeing the repercussions of his actions.

    3. You can not call it a filler episode without seeing the entire season.

How many shows have made a seemingly insignificant episodes linchpins that shape a narrative that blows the mind? We don’t know yet. Have faith. If not, JUST ENJOY THAT STAR WARS IS COMING TO US WEEKLY! Not in two year intervals. Not with decades of waiting. 7 day intervals and we see something new and amazing from the universe we love.

When waiting for your prey you must have patience. This is the way.

I am hoping Fennec Shand is the great descendant of the famous Jedi Bastila Shan (Old Republuc Era). She’s the same nationality of Bastila Shan, and she could have changed her last name from Shan to Shand, and become a bounty hunter to further hide her Force Sensitivity post-Jedi Purge. That’s a very Jedi Sentinel thing to do, and Bastila is a Jedi Sentinel.

The way a stranger at the end of episode comes to her supposed corpse makes me wonder if it will use Force Heal like Obi-Wan did for Luke in ANH.

    I disagree here.
I think they are made, interestingly, to be both at the same time.

They stand up real well weekly, and god I love it!
It's like really rich salted carmel milk chocolate truffles! Mmmmm!

But every couple weeks I binge them all for fun, and man! These are so much better than binging hour long shows!
I don't feel burnt or like I just endeavored to plow through anything, and new things pop out.

It's, strangly, like someone knew what they were doing and designed the show for great first time watching experience and excitement, and rewatch ability.

I didn't watch Stranger Things twice.
I friggen love that show (because it rocks and because my friend's company does the VFX for it), but after binging it once, I'm not in a hurry to rewatch it.

With this, I'm immediately compelled to watch them back to back to see it from that new perspective, and I love that it doesn't just dump it like a food trough on my plate. It has class and knows it's worth coming in courses for the first time experience.

Plus, I get way more option to share a global experience (nearly global). I don't have to hide from the internet because I fell behind and crunch to catch up. We all get these really cool conversations! :)

    Cheers,
    Jayson

Yeah, I can build one. I am 3D printing enthusiast. I can try to print one, just waiting for the models - I am not good at CAD. Yeah, magnetic levitation has come to practical solutions, video below, two of those may suspend the bike in the air.

Jayson, the technology is amazing, truly unreal. Maybe they need some time to fully unlock the potential. I would like to see many different worlds. Different landscape, flora and fauna. The galaxy is so large and so reach, we must see it all. And yeah ... I must agree that the compounds seen so far, villages or cities, whatever they are - they all look so similar like they have been created by the same man, just changing color and tone and a few things here and there. That give the impression of el cheapo production, or rushed up to keep the schedule :D And it is not that I am complaining here, I am very happy to watch the series, I just share my impression as a viewer, unprofessional and unaware of those production tech, and keep in mind it is not the 70's here. I can have the same view and effects just playing a game.

    Totally valid.
This tech was created after an earlier step in Solo and a further step in Lion King using the Unity engine.

Jon Favreau, ILM, and Unreal coordinated putting Stagecraft together. Basically with Lion King's Unity Favreau got it to where you could do a VR set build, but it had to go from shot to render then back to you.
He wanted "live" interactive feedback, so they did this.

So they literally did a giant R&D FX build for Mando like ANH did with Dykstraflex motion control camera (which, keep in mind...nearly broke the whole film by blowing almost the entire FX budget before they had any FX shots completed).

If you go back and watch an original copy of ANH, the spaceship battles are really tame an limited to a few ships at a time and no real complex motions by them when you had more than one interacting together in flight.

Fast forward to the second deathstar 6 years later and holy cow, what a difference!
Dozens of ships crossing paths and dynamically moving all over the place!

    Did the public care?
Nope. 'It's just copying ANH! Come on, give us something new George!' was a really common opinion at the time. It grew on folks, but I remember a lot of eye rolling and complaining of unoriginality after ROTJ. 'Throne room was cool, Jabba battle was fun. Everything else was blah.'

But the point I'm making here is two-fold.
One: Give the tech some time. It's doing this out of the gate...think how giddy Lucas would have been to have this quality on "go day" on TPM?
It'll expand and it's all digital so it can store up a catalog of pallets and evironments, and ILM has a standard procedure of digitally cataloging ALL effects. They literally have every explosion they have ever made on file, as just one example.

There's every reason to assume they will bring that same ordered process to the table here and eventually in a few years, they'll be scrolling through hundreds of diverse environments and possibly almost a thousand or so scene sets.

It's like oil paint. It starts off simple, but the more time goes on, the more layers upon layers are added, the richer the pallet, and the more vivid the painting.

Two: Even with saying all of this, I fully expect that when we get there - when we see more vivid pallets and the dynamic expression of Stagecraft really gets its running legs, there will still be people found to be unimpressed and bored with what they are looking at. Mainly because EVERY Star Wars has had that experience...including the first one! There were those who watched it in 1977 and thought it was boring and found the FX unimpressive boyhood wish fulfillment exposition.

So; totally valid, your view. It'll get better, and there will still be people complaining. lol
(And yes, I know you are enjoying it; which is awesome!)

"People complaining about a Star Wars movie? Imagine that!" - Hamill ;)

    Cheers,
    Jayson

Not a thing is "filled" as you all put it. Every scene is a drive into scenery from your childhood, Mom, Dad and Siblings in car driving to store, church, to school that is switched to SW's world of speeder bikes, dewbacks, clanky robots. harvesters, etc, cluttering up the scenery, housing that blends in with Tatooine's scenery so much you don't really even see the structures. A lifestyle that so naturally has everyone wearing guns/blasters of some sort. We've been given a gift. A trip back into our SW childhood of 1977 through 2011. Thank you for that gift. Thank you Disney. writers, directors and all staff that worked hard to produce what we've been able to watch every week.

A filler episode is an episode that after the series is over and you rewatch can you skip it. So likely the only thing that could change that is the last what 30 seconds of the episode. If later you watch Ep4 then skip Ep5 and later see Ming-Na Wen you may go wait, I thought she died. I dont even think that the person who shows up an kneels over her would create a reaction. After all you dont know who that is, so if someone else shows up in a cape you may go is that the person from the end of Ep5, but would not surprise you if you skipped Ep5.

    I'm not sure I agree.

A filler episode does nothing to advance the greater story.

Right now, we see the Mando on the run, realizing that he's between a rock and a hard place- he needs to lay low, but also needs to earn money.

Sure, it's not as wildly explosive as Episode 3, but it's kind of a necessary part of the journey still.
