I do understand that, and apologies for being maybe a little too brief and blunt when a little more guidance would have helped. I suppose it's just the sheer amount of posts recently, so it's more of a spamming issue than anything.

I didn't mean to lump all the symbolism into the category of "let's move on" however when it comes to this...
This really isn't the place for that, so let's please refrain as this is a family friendly site. And frankly if that's what we're focused on I think we are missing the mark... just seems in poor taste to me, and that there is some better discussion worth having instead. Thanks.

Understood. I was not involved in putting it into the series, if the show is in poor taste. I was merely the observer and messenger. That is on Disney, and selling ova to kids as toys without making that clear. Parents should know that if it's not family friendly, instead of sneaking it in under their noses and profiting on it. I personally do not have problems with it. I think it's great that she's proud of her parts and empowering young ladies, and we can have a laugh about it the idea of Carrie Fisher during her lifetime potentially saying "Lola's back" on her cycles.

Episode 6 appears to be moving us in the direction of the return of the goddess. The female aspect of the mysteries. If Reva is the Ishtar character I think she is, we can maybe expect her to be very feminine and sexual with a costume change. Woman power.

The vast majority of Cantina patrons do not generally talk about these things, though. This is not a religion and mythology forum, after all, nor a magico-sexual/mystical-enlightenment one, although there are loads of those kinds of sites out there on the internet where such discussions are more at home.

Okay. Thanks. I will take that as a request to leave. I will go find those instead.

I apologize for not being a vacuous skullbox to advertise and sell overpriced plastic toys manufactured by cheap labor, so rich executives can float around on yachts laughing at families, and the employees overseas can wonder how they're going to feed their families. Mythology is the heart and soul of Star Wars. If nobody wants to talk about what Star Wars is about, this site would be as dead as the fortress inquisitorious. I thought this place could use a light bulb, and there are a few bright bulbs here having a conversation. I see we have reached the end of that cycle, and it's lights out. Take care.

    Visible confusion

    Alright then, that escalated.

I guess I’ll throw in that while mythology is part of Star Wars, there are many things that weren’t based in myth. And some things, if they do share similarities, I doubt were intentionally so. The “why are the curtains black” situation. It might be intended metaphor, it might be the reader interpreting metaphor that isn’t there.

That said, I really love how this story tied things up, gave us a neat story of a broken Obi-wan finding real hope again, gave us The Path. Enjoyable finale.

You don't mean generally do you?

I mean you're right - it's not the top-tier raison d'être - but as a Star Wars discussion forum surely that means it would be inclusive of discussions around the very things that are rooted in the movie series' existence in the first place? I'm sure it can't be what what you meant, but to suggest that mythology cannot be part of the discourse about Star Wars seems... well... at odds with what Star Wars is.

Star Wars is famously a mythopoeia, an exercise in the creation of a modern-myth; drawing upon and borrowing from mythologies and folklore from various cultures around the world and throughout history, so offering critiques and insights using one's knowledge of the subject to interpret and analyse the stories and draw out mythological parallels should be welcome I would have thought. But I don't know... maybe a more diplomatic solution would be say to put it in it's own thread when it starts to dominate?

I'm going to go 'out on a limb' here and guess that the real issue here is embracing DISCUSSIONS, whatever they may be, theatrical, technological, or mythological. But this is not the place for posting personal psuedo-psychological / mythological manifestos.

    Indeed it did...

I can understand both sides of ths skirmish, the material was interesting, yet it was quite a lot... and indeed there was not much actual discussion...
Though perhaps it could have been handled slightly more tactful, this was a bit of an overreaction...

    Agreed!

Exactly, I for one found Sheddai's angle intriguing and insightful and (let's face it) Star Wars has always been full of subtle and more obvious references to archetypes from Mythology, Theology and other kinds of Folklore, as @Too Bob Bit so eloquently put it...
So some form of discussion about these things could be very enlightening to those who like to understand more about why some things in Star Wars are the way they are. The use of shapes and colours because of their deeper meaning. Some that even give hints about things to come...

Perhaps a separate thread would have been a more diplomatic solution, instead of giving him the impression (wether intentional or not) that there was NO room at all for his musings on this forum...

The need for fresh ideas and knowledge that can enrich those who seek it, is fundamental to keeping this forum vibrant and alive.

Discussing moon goddesses, cosmic vah-jay-jays and the blooming of little princesses is NOT my cup of Cantina juice. Just sayin.

And I'm all about the myths G.Walton informed himself; and shaped the SAGA, with.

And nor does it have to be ofcourse, I fully understand.

An aforementioned seperate thread could have been a solution. There shoud be room for it here in the Cantina.
We have threads about food, drink, footbal (soccer) and various other sports, that have no connotations with SW n the slightest! (apart from the occasional exceptions like a SW-themed pizza or cake that come to mind... :p)

And rightly so, because mythology has not only been used generously to shape the storylines, but also the visuals. Even if these references are not always obvious for the casual viewer.

Not being funny, but do we even have a forum for esoteric, spiritual & moon goddess discussion? I've never even looked.

    It is Star Wars

A lesson of episode 3 is not to be an empty helmet in service to darkness, riding on the bus, driven by animal consciousness in ignorance and apathy, and looking for a Jedi that's sitting right in front of you, escorting the little bit of light that's left in the world. The chakras idea was inspired straight from lectures by George Lucas's mentor, Joseph Campbell. They use Joseph Campbell's comparative mythology work in Star Wars. It's right there for you to see. I'm pointing that out. If you don't want to see it, I don't know what to say. The moon and sun idea is 100% accurate. You're not receptive to that, and that's fine.
If nobody wants to see that, there's an avenue to enjoy shiny toys and video games without having to do the hard and meaningful part. Then maybe it will click down the road in life when you've suffered, and you'll have a story to relate back to.

If you paid attention to the series, and were informed by mythology, you'd know that the Reva character was revealed in the last episode to be a kind of goddess of transitions-- the light that comes just before the sun rises, and just before the darkness. It's a perfect and beautiful myth for Star Wars. She is equal to Ishtar or Venus. She will likely change her clothes to something lighter and beautiful, sexy, maybe with an 8 pointed star. Her lightsaber may bring in the 2 remaining rainbow colors absent from Star Wars, indigo and orange. She's a transition of consciousness inside you. The inquisitor swords divided in two represent the equinoxes of the year. I learned that in episode 6. It's great.

And, she will probably have a relationship with someone in the next series, and be married. In myth, the character marries a shepherd. Roken is a shepherd. I hope they do the orange and indigo lightsaber. It fits perfect. When Reva/Venus brought in the sun in the end she intuitively knew about Luke. It's a great story.

FFW to Luke in TLJ: Luke is depressed because his sunlight wasn't received by the people of the galaxy, and put into action. You did that to him. He got depressed about it and returned to the first temple. When his light starts to shine at the end, that manifests in TROS. Sunlight received. It's up to you to do something with the sunlight.
It is time for the Jedi to end.

Ep 6 told us Reva is the queen of heaven, the river flow of light to dark and dark to light. I think that's good information to share. It's shared in a place that doesn't really want to hear it. It's a bit funny that the philosophy of George Lucas is disliked in Star Wars posts.

It requires some degree of symbol literacy and reading to discern meaning in episode 6.

    To some people, this
    J
is a fish hook. But when you learn to read a symbol, it becomes the jay sound. It would be wrong to ridicule someone who reads it as "jay."
