The droid represents her ovum, female reproductive cell. Leia is the mythological moon/light goddess. The bottom of Lola I think someone said is silver. That would be a symbol of the moon. The top is also a symbol of the base world- red- enclosed in a sacred space (circle), with white in the middle (light). I believe this is the same quality of her sister, the Earth. Lunar cycles are associated with menstruation cycles. The moon is female in symbolism, as it's receptive to the light. The sun is male as the sender of light. Red circle with white center is a symbol of the sacred light hitting the base world, the planet.

Earth (Light rescued from slavery to Jabba)
Earth's sister the moon (Light rescued from death star)

and... the third sister. Which heavenly body do you think goes out and gets the sun from the desert when he's knocked out?

The droid is a friendly, artificially intelligent drone placed by Leia in her holster for concealment.

The "vagina" bequeathed to Leia by Tala has marks on it to symbolise each of the Imperials that she has killed with the "blaster" she kept in it.

Tala was keeping count, perhaps because she represents the cycle of time. Every Imperial taken out is a bit closer to illumination. Every time the gun goes into the holster, male and female join, bringing the light to the world. Notches on the bedpost.

Killing imperials is like having sex?

If the marks are all about cycles then wouldn't the ovum symbolism be relevant to that instead of a gun?

I don't think that Tala only killed imperials according to a cycle either.

George Lucas's mentor, Joseph Campbell said if you get stuck in the metaphors without realizing it's reference to something else, you miss the point.

If you go into a DIY store, down the electrical or plumbing aisle, you'll find male and female parts. It doesn't mean there are people there having sex. It's a reference to something else going on there. One goes into the other that receives it. We're talking about light going into the world, hitting it. Light inside of us-- in consciousness.

The cycle of the year goes up into the light, down into darkness.
The cycle of the day goes up into light, down into darkness.
The cycle of the month, the moon-- goes up into light, down into darkness.
Our lives go up into the peak of our life, down into decay and death.
    Civilizations rise and fall.

Light cycles became a symbol of what's going on inside of us, and what that light or darkness inside of us creates in the world outside of us.

No but in the context of this conversation, the perception would be that they were designed that way, consciously or not, in order to symbolise having sex (over and above their actual functionality). And you could argue that. I think it's far harder though, and also pointless, to argue that Tala marking enemy kills on her holster symbolises menstrual cycle when you are running the suggestion of droid/ovum symbolism right adjacent to it.

I am not saying any of your other suggestions of symbolism are pointless. But when the chosen symbols and their functions seem to be working against each other then I think that it becomes slightly pointless in those cases.

    Leia running from home.jpg

So, do we see some yonic imagery at the base of the Organa palace? What is Leia running from I wonder before she is captured by pirates.

In various African communities, purple signify the essence of femininity . . .. or womanhood. How is purple significant to African American communities?

It's funny . . . and ironic. Obi-Wan has always viewed both himself and Anakin as brothers. Yet, Anakin had always tried to view Obi-Wan as a surrogate father.

I did not miss Yoda. Nor did I ever see any reason for him to appear in this series.

I never had a problem with Hayden as Anakin in the PT. And "STAR WARS" is notorious for its occasionally cheesy dialogue. I've heard it in the PT, the OT and in some of the Disney productions, including the much beloved "The Mandalorian".

    Good find.
I remembered where I saw Reva's weapon before. The myth fits with her and Luke, the sun. Ishtar. (in other cultures Venus, Aphrodite, Inanna) .Morning and evening star, star of transitions,
Her day would be Friday. Reva Fridays coming soon? Maybe at Easter time. Spring Equinox, fertility.
We can probably expect a version of the Ishtar story. She marries a shepherd Tammuz. I'm guessing that will be Roken. What do you think?
    For discussion purposes
    ishtar.jpg

My suspicions are growing that Rey may be Hermes-Aphrodite, the divine hermaphrodite, the dyad merged into one body.
Ben means son. I was thinking it was son of the something else. But no, I'm leaning towards Hermes. Kenobi played a Hermes-like role. I'm thinking "ben" could refer to Hermes for both of them. It makes sense that the moon goddess would name her son after Hermes. I would bet that if Rey returns, she may be intersex in some way. Or, here's a crazy wild thought. Reva and Kenobi have a kid. That would be like Hermes and Aphrodite. They could be related to Rey. I doubt they would do that with the Kenobi character. It doesn't fit as well. But I'm sure that's years away from finding out where they go with Rey. I would bet on the first one.

The saga wasn't exclusively for children, but it was unquestionable that they existed solely for kids? This sounds contradictory to me. And by the way, I don't agree.

No me neither. But it's like when you do any repair work and feel as if you only need to fill in the readily visible holes to find that the other holes become a lot more visible afterwards.

I'm ready for Yoda's exile to be given some kind of definition besides disappearing "until the time is right". Now that we know that Kenobi had reappeared ten years prior to the events of the OT.

Well, yeah. When you add that extra word in there as a deliberate misquote, it definitely becomes contradictory :D

Look at it like this: Not that these things are equivalent, but absolutely anyone can enjoy the Lucky Charms breakfast cereal. There’s no age restriction. If you’re 70 years old, you can still sit down and revel in its sugary marshmallow goodness. There’s nothing wrong with that. But it’s pretty darn unquestionable that this cereal with the cartoon mascot on its box is meant for kids. That’s who it’s trying to appeal to. That’s its purpose for being. Not “solely”, but primarily.
And that’s totally your prerogative. The reason I provided all those quotes from interviews with George Lucas was to evidence that I didn’t just pull that perspective out of thin air. The guy who created this story has stated multiple times over multiple decades why and for who it exists. Do with that whatever you want.

The only reason I brought that up at all was in relevance to this episode. Obi-Wan spares Vader’s life as an ethical choice in accordance with the Jedi ethos, which is reflective of the value system that Star Wars advocates. And since, according to George Lucas himself, Star Wars exists as a vehicle to impart principled lessons to its audience, that outcome is actually very appropriate and respectful rather than egregious.

No, it isn’t the most tactically sound decision, but Star Wars isn’t trying to teach anyone lessons in tactics. It’s trying to teach you lessons in ethics.

I have watched it once. The view setting was less than ideal with lots of crosstalk so I will watch have to it again. I will give a 9/10 as I felt something was missing but I don't know what.
I do have one question: Does Jedi: Fallen Order take place before or after OWK?

Funny thing: In Dutch, the word "leuk" means like or being fun. Not sure how to apply it in this context...

As many in th Cantina can attest to, Ive been hoping for something quite similar. Ever since the first TlJ - trailer were Luke dropped the bomb of saying the Jedi must end, I've been hoping they would reshape/reinvent the Jedi-concept, more like the Je'daii of old. Maybe they still will...

The discussion here has uh... strayed a bit far from the path, yeah?

Reminder that this is a discussion thread for Obi-Wan, not a theology, mythology, or anatomy class....

But they're not being discussed as mutually exclusive things. It's a discussion about the theology, mythology and symbolism in Obi-Wan.

The development of ideas here unfolded from the final episode in a series, episode 6. If we had moved the conversation to other threads, it might be more confusing than it already is. I wish they released all episodes at once, so all the conversations could be in one place. I hope it helps people to find an understanding at the end of this series, and to appreciate the depth of the Kenobi series, at the conclusion of season 1. Star Wars is filled with mythology and religion, based on stories thousands of years old, and cultures from around the world, many of which do not view sexuality through the same lens as our western conditioning. If one can't talk mythology, and the sexual references in the series and movies, and the hidden comedy, there's no point in being here. Sometimes bureaucracy could impede having a real deep and holistic discussion, a valuable discussion provided freely, about an event as it relates to all of Star Wars. If people are led into the wilderness of a filing system like the one the ark of the covenant disappeared into in Raiders, we may need Reva to go out there and bring back the light.
