Like the prequel trilogy, there are some parts that I love and some that I don't. I feel the same way about the sequel trilogy. As the years go on and I take in the sequel trilogy at a later date I might appreciate it more, but for now, it was a mediocre/ok ending for me.

If Rey isn't who is? I believe she is and there is a video on YouTube that proves it called Rey's terrible very badlightsaber skills: star wars by shadiversity watch it once if you still like her lightsaber skills after that then give me all the hate you got.

The best duels in the saga took place in the sequel trilogy and in the classic trilogy. Visually and with great verbal confrontation also.

Rey x Kylo in the Statkiller base.

    Luke x Kylo in Crait.

Rey x Kylo in Kef Bir.

Overall the trilogy as a whole was mediocre. Not good by any means, but still watchable films.

Parts of each movie were good, yes even parts of TLJ. But after having just rewatched the entire series last week with my kids, the sequel trilogy is noticeably weaker than the rest of the series.

I loved TFA. TLJ had problems, I was not offended but I understand why people feel that Luke was not handled well. Rather TLJ made me think that the seeds that had started planting in TFA would bring a bout a great resolution. Even before TFA I figured the Ben was going to kill Snoke and that he was going to be the Big Bad. I still figured he would see the light but tragically too late.

TROS really disappointed me. Both TFA and TLJ hinged on whether Kylo or Rey would continue the legacy of Anakin/Vader. Their stories were parallel opposites which was awesome. However rather than finish the story it felt like they started TROS just seemed to be an all new story. It felt like it was from another trilogy. I liked the movie on its own but hated that it felt like it ignored the story that they had started telling in TFA and TLJ. Honestly it felt like they did a whole bunch of things they thought would un-do what some fans hated about the trilogy. But the retcon and sudden return of Palpatine felt off.

I would have much preferred seeing Kylo the Supreme Leader ruling in melancholy and rage as "the more you tighten your fingers the more systems fall from your grip." The return of the emperor and learning it was all as he planned didn't seem to make sense and took a great deal of agency away from Ben. Prior to his return. Ben's betrayal of Luke and the pain that caused his own family was what destroyed all our happy endings from ROTJ. But new and even kreepier Palpatine who was still looked like himself even though he was a clone who needed to be killed by someone to live through them (which apparently a clone couldn't have done) didn't do it for me.

I like the sequel movies individually, but when I look at them as a whole, I'm not sure how I feel. If The Mandalorian explains some more of the shady Palpatine/Snoke clone things, I think I would feel better about them.

While I get that desire I kinda hope the Mandolorain stays far away from any Palpatine/Snoke story elements.

Stuff like that is cool as it's a simple nod that has a nice impact to the overall Star Wars story but is mostly inconsequential to the current narrative.

TFA was fun; made me hopeful for what was to come.
TLJ had some cool moments, but made me feel like Luke had accomplished basically nothing in thirty years.
ROS could have made up for it’s predecessor but failed; mildly entertaining at least.

The Mandalorian to explore the origins of the First Order

The upcoming Disney+ series is set to explore some of the early origins of the First Order — the dictatorship commanded by Supreme Leader Snoke that rose up to succeed the fallen Galactic Empire that was defeated in Return of the Jedi.

“This doesn’t turn into a good guy universe because you blew up two Death Stars,” Mandalorian director Dave Filoni quipped. “You get that the Rebels won and they’re trying to establish a Republic, but there’s no way that could have set in for everybody all at once. You have in a Western where you’re out on the frontier and there might be Washington and they might have some marshals, but sometimes good luck finding one.”

“Also, what could happen in the 30 years between celebrating the defeat of the Empire and then the First Order?” teased showrunner Jon Favreau. “You come in on Episode VII, [the First Order are] not just starting out. They’re pretty far along.”

    “Pretty well equipped,” Filoni added.

“So somehow, things weren’t necessarily managed as well as they could have been if [the galaxy] ended up in hot water again like that,” Favreau said dryly.

In The Mandalorian, Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad) plays Moff Gideon, a former Imperial governor now set adrift in the wake of the Emperor’s downfall. So one possibility could be that Gideon seeks to re-unite the scattered, broken factions, but that’s just our speculation.

There has been an explanation of the rise of the First Order in the Expanded Universe. The books Star Wars: Aftermath by Chuck Wendig and Star Wars: Bloodline by Claudia Gray told of how Imperial remnants fled to the Outer Rim, waged a cold war against the New Republic, and solidified into the First Order six years before the events in The Force Awakens. The Mandalorian plans to use elements from across the Skywalker saga films, The Clone Wars and other animated series and the Extended Universe in its storytelling.
The Mandalorian is the first live-action Star Wars TV series. The drama from showrunner follows a lone bounty hunter (Pedro Pascal) in the outer reaches of the galaxy as he sets out to collect a particularly difficult prize. The show also stars Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito, Carl Weathers, Taika Waititi, and Ming-Na Wen.

I doubt the the first order hints are just Easter eggs and blink once and you miss it shot. It sounds like a specific part of the narrative.

Hopefully the series may make some sense of the sequel trilogy even if it's not the major plot point.

I think it's pretty cool that they're working to fill in the span between RotJ & TFA with plot-relevant stories while certain characters (from all films, realy) are still able to return in the guyse of their original actors, in some capacity or other. I'm not sure The Mandalorian is the best vehicle for that, (although Rangers of the New Republic certainly is), but we'll see. I for one am all for seeing the rise of the First Order in the background/context of various show, and possibly also as climactic events to such shows, too. Heck, I'd even jump at motion picture set in this period; should be fun and interesting.

Also, the High Republic stuff is gearing up to give me enough fresh Star Wars to keep me satisfied.

It’s taken me a year after TRoS to feel able to vote on this poll lol. I still stand by most of what I posted previously in this thread, but now feel happy to have decided to vote ‘Excellent’. I don’t think the ST is “better” than the original or prequel trilogies, but to me they all offer slightly different things, operate in slightly different ways, and I love them all differently, yet ... kind of equally?

I guess one way to put it would be, who is more ‘me’? Me as a young teen, re-watching the OT and SEs and truly becoming a ‘fan’ more than someone who liked those Star Wars movies when I saw them on TV ... Or me as a university student as the prequels were being released and I got to write about them, and all of Star Wars in my studies :)))... Or me as a fully-grown adult, seeing movies I only hoped in my wildest dreams actually happen, due to the mature actions of George Lucas being willing to let go of his company at the right time...?

I don’t know. It was all me. At different stages. There are things about me as a kid that were better. A longer future ahead of me... all the possibilities. Then as I grew I learned more, and saw some things differently. And now I am informed and shaped by all those earlier years, but with age comes some downsides too(!).

And I guess so it goes with my love of the Star Wars trilogies. It’d be dishonest of me to say the ST exists in a vacuum, separate from the previous films. It builds upon them, in ways that personally I loved (I am very aware not everyone feels that way!). They could have gone in other directions, just like my life could have. But in either case, there was a context of what had come before. And yeah, the ST to me, was plenty close enough to giving me what the previous films had in terms of feelings, thoughts, satisfaction. In different ways; not better, not worse, just different.

The biggest issue with the sequel trilogy is Carrie Fisher's death. Kylo Ren's entire arc points to a confrontation with his mother that never happens. The OT features the son saving the father and the ST is the mother saving the son. They tried to shoe horn it into TROS, but it just doesn't work. I'm not sure how they could have fixed it.

Ultimately, I think the ST about as good as it could have been under the circumstances.

One year on, I have changed my ranking to Excellent. Because I actually do find it far superior to the OT, which I honestly to this day can't understand what's so great about it. That being said I think that TLJ is better than TROS. Although I got a more emotional kick out of TROS.

I suspect this opinion will grow over time. A New Hope is slow in comparison to blockbusters of today which is kind of amazing because at the time the speed of Star Wars in 1977 was unlike anything ever made. Essentially the popular Marvel/Star Wars films of today are simply the refined work over 40 years. How do you compare 1977 to 2020? Star Wars was in theaters for two years. There was not HD TV or VHS market. The only way to see that film was to buy a ticket an go see it. Over the last 3 days people have watched the Mando finale over and over at home on HD TVs. In 1978 the only way to see video of the Death Star was to buy a ticket. There wasn't and internet.

A lot has changed in 40+ years, but in 1977 there wasn't anything like Star Wars.

The prequels or sequels being preferred over the OT is blasphemy to me and comments like "far superior" makes me cringe but I know I know, to each their own and I have to remember that sometimes.

That said, I like the PT and ST! Not my favorite star wars but I find lots of pros than just cons in them. I've grown even more fondly of this trilogy like I have with the prequels over time with rewatches and seeing the bigger picture with books/comics and games.

I accept Luke a bit more after finally getting Luke in his prime in live action. Even if just a few scenes.

They'll get better with time like the prequels. We'll get some ancillary shows like the CW to fill in the gaps.
Absolutes lead to the dark side :D.
