Regarding Rey, the more I think about it the more I think Disney tried to give female audiences what they thought we would like...instead of what we actually liked.

What I find ironic is post TLJ I repeatedly defended Rey and the films; I pointed out about the 'mind meld', that she knew about mechanics from years scavenging on Jakku, that she also had years of close combat experience.
I got angry when they called her a Mary Sue.
I was 100% certain they would not kill off Kylo/Ben, because he was the last of the heroes.
Then I saw TROS....and regretted defending them after all. Never mind.

Because what? Rey impaled him during a duel, he later died meaning they never got to be space dates dates and Rey didn't "mourn" him enough for you?

    Yes, something like that!;)

Actually it's because he was my favourite SW character - ever.
And because Rey came across as just far too good to be true in TROS. I like my heroines to be human.

There's good and bad stuff in the ST.

Enough to enjoy for me to rewatch from time to time, but enough I dislike to where I don't consider it my personal canon. I think there's a lot left to be desired in these films, and I feel they could have been better. But they are not films I hate at all. All in all, I'm glad they were made as I had a fun time seeing them in theaters.

I actually would have liked it if the FO wasn't just the Empire reborn, but not entirely bad, and the Resistance more 'shades of grey'. I liked Rogue 1 for that, it was something new.

Yeah the Empire vs Rebel Alliance v2 aspect of the ST is one of my issues with it. Would have been neater if the New Republic military was the foremost power in the galaxy, and the FO was more similar to how the Rebels were (from a power perspective) in the OT. Would have been a neat power dynamic flip.

I think the FO is a cool concept, and I like the designs of their military from the Stormtroopers to the Officers to their ships. But the Resistance being just another Rebel Alliance makes it way too rehashy for me.

Yes, I wanted something like that. I enjoyed TFA but they clearly were rehashing ANH - Rey's outfit was very much like Luke's, in addition to the 'message in a droid' and 'cantina' scenes even without Death Star part 2 - or should that have been 3?

I think they almost succeded in that, I saw TFA on a first "official" date with a girl who never saw Star Wars before (probably not the best choice) and she enjoyed the movie, especially Rey that she's describe as strong and tough (probably because she doesn't know what a Jedi was).

I think that Disney succefully made Star Wars more "feminely-friendly". Before this female Star Wars characters were know only

I'm not saying that Leia or Padme are not good female character, but I don't think they leave the same impact as Rey, for the general audience at least.

We can disagree with her characters arc or even her lineage but Rey is the protagonist of the sequel and a more modern "heroine" than the female characters in the movies before. I wish they reserved the same treatment with Finn, Poe or Rose that quickly became shallow characters.

The problem with Rey is not that she is a Mary Sue, the problem it is that everybody around her is useless and doesn't do anything even remotely interest plot-wise. Even character like Luke, Han and Leia get overshadow by her "importance". It's no a good thing when you create a "strong" characters making everybody else laughably pointless.

This is basically what Disney do with Rey (it is more evident in TLJ and TROS): They want to create a cool and strong character (in JP 3 want to create a new big bad dinosaur) ripping apart every strong and cool characters (the T-Rex) who came before.

With this method the only result who can achieve it's alienated the fans of the previous characters because it's a cheap and disrespectful move.

Precisely. If you have to destroy all of the characters to make your protagonist look good.... then she wasn't very well written in the first place.

The Force Awakens was the well made movie that I enjoyed 7/10
The Last Jedi was the movie that I despised and ruined so much about star wars 4.5/10
The Rise of Skywalker was an utter dumpster fire that tried to appease fans 3/10

Films looked good, actors did good, story was meh and not well thought out or implemented. Just meh. Russia. I have no feelings for new characters and old ones just killed off…

Neither do I but for a completely different reason!

Regarding female leads...I thought Jyn Erso much more interesting than Rey. Which is ironic, as she only featured in one film, and Rey had an entire trilogy about her.

I think Palms should have had an army of Dark Warriors instead of Troopers. The warriors would be Very weak in the force but would be dark side.

would make sense for Palpatine to use Force users similar to the Jedi before he defeated them. If people have powers, you want to have them use it on your side,.

    Now that sounds interesting.

When I first heard Palpatine was back, I thought he'd be a creepy Force ghost. They could have explained a Sith being able to do that by referring to his knowledge of Darth Plagueis the Wise. Then the threat would have been from him attempting to use Rey or Kylo as a host.

    actually yeah.

When the “Sith Trooper” was first announced and fans were griping that it’s just a red stormtrooper, I defended the design. This was before TROS came out. I thought these troopers were just some sort of elite First Order force.

But then the movie comes out, and these troopers aren’t first order troopers. They’re Palpatine’s Sith army. And with that in mind—all they could come up with is red stormtroopers? What a completely missed opportunity to do something fresh.

Sadly, I think that sums up the ST as a whole.

I feel that Palpatine should have never been in this trilogy in the first place.

I felt Palpatine was the trilogy's strong point, although awkward how they brought him in with the opening scroll. Exegol was one of the few things I thought was really great about the last movie. The saga is about our own psychology, and he is the archetype of evil located in our collective unconscious, from where all the darkness of mankind originates. He is a pattern that repeats throughout history. All tyrants rise from the same place in our psyche. Palpatine is, in the final movie, spiritually dead and drained, in a materialist, machine-like existence, disconnected from any goodness of life, enthroned on a big dead flower, trying to get someone to take over for him in the galaxy. He is in "hell," the polar opposite of Jedi who have ascended to 100% spiritual existence in the Force. "Heaven." Ya can't bring him back as a ghost, because that's spiritual. He's just reanimated matter presenting an artistic image of Palpatine. He's the deadest, most base part of you- in life. You're not sure if he's really there, or just a familiar image presented by the dark side. He's all the voices in your head, as they say in the movie. He's the personification of forces at work inside of your own psyche. When they go down, down, down into the underworld, they're going deep down inside of us. Star Wars is a sort of collective dream about our own lives. George Lucas's mentor said a dream is a private myth, and a myth is a public dream.

When you go with them to see Palpatine in Exegol, you are transported into the deepest and darkest part of your own psychology. There, they used ideas from Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell, exactly how George Lucas was inspired for the first movie.
