While moisture farming is how the Lars/Skywalker family got water and made a living, where did they get food? From what is seen in the films, there is nothing but flat sand for miles around them and they appear to live in the middle of nowhere. Every other location actually seen onscreen is desolate and without vegetation. If they eat meat, what do the animals eat? Where do people get food on Tatooine? If there's a canon mention of this please provide it, I'm curious! :)

I'm sure there's some underground market of Bantha meat being passed around.

My guess is that a lot of the poorer people just eat the packaged portions, like the ones Plutt rationed out on Jakku.

Also, there seems to be a pretty good variety of wildlife on Tatooine. Somehow, that wildlife has to sustain itself, which means:

    a) there may be some plant life that humanoids could eat
    b) There is obviously meat.

And yeah, I'd imagine that some farmers (the Lars included) probably had the tech to grow interior gardens.

Since there is meat there must be vegetaion somewhere, enough to feed the huge beasts that are the banthas. In addition, I can't remember the source but I read somewhere... pretty recently... that Tatooine moisture farmers harvest mushrooms growing on their vaporators. I wonder where I read that?

I mean, we see tons of plants growing on the Lars moisture farm. We see quite a lot of root vegetables in their kitchen, too. So I'm guessing a lot of underground produce can be grown where moisture farms bring water to the soil?

In Mando S2E1 there were also lots of bushes and stuff growing in the desert, especially in Tuskans-traveling-in-single-file shots, IIRC.
